MacBook Air M1 2020 - $1349 for 256GB, 7-Core GPU; $1699 for 512GB, 8-Core GPU @ Apple Education Store

760

Hi guys
Looking to buy new laptop for my partner who's Dell XPS is finally dying after 5 years
Considerations for moving her over to the new Macbook Air were its battery life, speakers and that she already uses an iPhone

I noticed that buying directly from the Apple Education store is actually cheaper than anywhere else
JB Hi Fi - $1499 and $1849 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/computers-tablets/appl…
Officeworks - $1397 and $1847 https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology…

Dupe maybe? This has always been the price at edu store for ages.

    Standard pricing for edu store

  • +1

    Always been the case

  • JB is less expensive, with price match + 10-15% off gift cards

    • +11

      10-15% off gift cards from?

      • When they go on sale at Colesworths, and/or O/W price match.

    • +1

One thing to remember is you can’t upgrade the memory through build to order from JB so other than that its well worth looking into.

use this link to get it cheaper

    MacBook Air 256gb - $1294.70
    MacBook Air 512gb - $1631.30

    • +1

This is amazing, how does it become different? Aren't they both education pricing?

      • +1

This one says AOC AU Australian Education Union Store Home instead of a regular Education Store.

        • +2

Hmmm…this I did not know. My wife is a member of that union…I shall have her make all future Apple purchases for me!

…or does Apple ever bother even checking?

          • -4

@Banj0: Apple does - they do a random audit every now and then. If you're caught out you just have to pay the difference.

            • +2

              @tichet18:

If you're caught out you just have to pay the difference.

Or, just say mea culpa, and cancel the order.

            • +1

@tichet18: Lol how are they going to make us pay the difference?

              • @CalmLemons: Allegedly, they hold onto the credit card information.

However, if you pay the total amount using gift cards, I wonder how will Apple make you pay back the difference?

                • @DoctorCalculon: You can't charge a customers card without permission.

Would love to get a phone call from Tim Cook though, will pay full price then.

    • +1

yeah, what makes this link get a cheaper pricing?

      • +1

It is an EPP store. The organisation has an specific agreement with Apple AU to provide such discounted prices to their members.

    • +1

How is that possible??? :D Thx!

      Legend!

    • Cheers!

Grabbed one for $1,250 by combining with this deal

  • I’m not a student can i purchase from the Apple Education Store ?

    • yes you can

    • Had no idea about the education store. The missus recently ordered an iPad Pro from the regular Apple store. Any chance of getting the difference refunded?

      • NO

      • +3

You’ll need to return for a refund if within 14 days and then purchase.

        • -1

Well that sounds like a lot of screwing around.

    • +1

We are all students for life! :)

  • Interesting 👍😁

  • From memory, I think JB price-match student pricing?

    • +1

I guess you need to be a student? But actually, everyone can purchase from Apple education store. For standard model/configuration they are of the same price (10% off). For custom build (if you like 16GB RAM for example) education store will be cheaper (JB Hifi has no discount on custom build?).

      • +3

Yes, that's correct. JB ask for your student ID.

  • Given it's August already, can't you hold this off a couple of months and wait for the usual January offers?

    • Yeah! AirPods where included last.

      • Are Airpods usually in there own separate packaging box or packaged within the MacBook Air/MacBook Pro packaging box?

    • +7

FWIW, January is still around 5 months away…

      • IIRC the last one started late December and if OP's laptop is able to chug along till then, it might be a better buying opportunity?

May be stackable with this deal?

    Cool story

  • tempted to buy a 2018 256gb 15 inch mbp for 2000

    • Not worth it I think. I sold my 2020 (or 2019, anyway the last generation) 15inch mbp (512GB with apple care+) 3 months ago for $2300

Performance wise an M1 MBA will be better than intel MBP. Only problem is the screen size.

      • Some would buy it for the screen size on a budget rather spend 3k+. If your performance metric is a larger screen then why not.

    • Do you need that very model?

Pre-M1, pre-16", pretty expensive with a small disk.

      • btw to that ozbargain user who said 13. is 13 inches is wrong. different even though it's 13 inches. I bought a 2016 case for my 2015 model mbp and it smaller and doesn't fit.

  • I am not a student.. don't they need student ID for purchase?

    • Did you read the rest of the comments?

      • -3

Yeah I haven’t sorry as soon as I saw the title I went straight to comment

  • Does it say education store on the receipt?

  • Have anyone received your order?

    • Nope mine was supposed to arrive on 16 Aug but got delayed

      • Same to mine. Do they contact you?

        • No I've been checking using the tracking info, it says there was a delay and they're 'investigating'
          Says coming from china
