Harman Kardon Citation One MK2 2-Speaker Bundle - 70,000 Pts (Was 182,000) @ Telstra

1100

This is not really something I want for myself, but maybe someone else would be interested. Seems like a good discount as these speakers are currently selling for $295 each at Harvey Norman. Getting two of these for 70,000 points is quite good if this is something you’re after. You can also get it for $192 + 2500 points

The Harmon "Karen" do they scream at you that they want to speak to the manager…lol, I think you mean Harman Kardon.

    • +3

      Screams like a banshee.

    • +3

Would appear the poster has quietly fixed his faux pas.

  • +9

    shut up Karen

  • Not sure now, its not as good as sonos. I thought it was better

    • +1

They used to be good u til samsung came along

    • +1

Can confirm the Sonos Ones are solid. Have not personally heard the Harman's to compare though.

  • Telstra points? I learn something new everyday…
I like the look, however! And am a huge fan of HK <3

    • +4

Shame you can't fly to Honkers at the moment.

  • +1

    they retail for $150-180 each.

    • singles on sale retail for 149, black is normally more expensive.

IMO this is a good deal.

  • +12

OFF TOPIC: We have a friend. Whenever he's around we MUST NOT mention speakers, because he instantly segues into boring us with endless commendations about his Harman Kardon Soundsticks.

    Thank you.

    • +7

      Reported as OFF TOPIC ;)

    • +15

Speaking of speakers, you should totally get some Harman Kardon Soundsticks.

    • +3

You should let your friend know that no one is interested in his stick.

      • +3

        But it's a very sound stick…

        • +1

For best results, stick must be stood upright and positioned prominently within the room. Not for the weak of heart though; the pulsating beats provide tremendous stimulation.

          • +1

@andresampras: The friend just sent a text to announce his 9th grandchild's birth. True!

See what a good sound stick can do?

            :D

I prefer Karman Hardons to be honest.

    • +1

      I just prefer hardons

      • +1

I hear there's pills for that.

  • +1

$157 with 15,000 points (I have just under 20,000 points currently). Profit to be made here, perhaps. These look good on paper (or would, if I printed out the specs): some lossless formats supported, WiFi, Bluetooth (4.2), Airplay 2. No physical input though. 4/5 from What HiFi?

    • You can buy them on Ebay for $159 - $179 including delivery.

      • +1

But this deal is for two.

        • Bundle pack for only 192

          • @AirJordan23: Source on that bundle?

            Cant find one

            • @Jofzar: Last sentence of OP. From Telstra, but for those who have less than 5000 points.

        • Aaah - oops, I didn't realise that!

  • +1

Got over 80,000 points to spend and came across this last week. and received on tuesday. took about 4 days.

Ordered then realised it is actually pair of two. I think it is a great price and a nice set up for desktop.

    • How did you connect it to desktop wirelessly?

      • I haven't tried it yet. but I think it has wifi and Bluetooth connection.

    • +1

      Hey @ghostdom

Did you get a pack with 2 inside or is it delivered like 2 individual boxes? (wondering if I could get this and gift to 2 people with proper packing, or if its 2 in 1 packaging)

      • I'm interested too - will ask below to see if anyone else has received them.

        • +1

Received them today, they are in individual boxes.

  • Thanks OP, ordered.

  • Can state that the HK Citation One MK1 sounds very good for the size. A little over-exaggerated bass but it's not obnoxious.
Will fill a very large room quite easily.

  • Thanks OP, don't need but still ordered..

  • This or Audioengine A2+?

  • Thanks OP, ordered one as I had 90K points, now waiting for a deal on Citation 700 beam soundbar ;)

    • If you were wanting to connect the Citation One's for surround sound, unless things have changed very recently, no can do.

      • Thanks mate, didn't know this 😢

The soundbar can't be connected to the Citation One for a 5.0 or 5.1 surround setup. You need the Citation Towers or Citation Surround for that

        • Where does it say that? I see this :

Do you want to create a stereo system or a home cinema? Then Harman Kardon Citation MultiBeam 700 is a good choice for you. Add a subwoofer and 2 Citation Surround speakers or Citation Towers. You can connect these to one another via the Google Home app.

  • -5

What so special about these when you can just get Edifier ones for half the price??

Unless these sound twice as good I won't even bother claiming using Telstra points….

    • -1

Are the Edifers smart speakers that you can connect to your Google Home network and stream music through your whole house across a number of speakers?
My guess is that they are not.

      • -1

So tell me how is it difficult to connect your phone via Bluetooth to these speakers. And what about Google mini 3.5mm aux out to Edifier?

Do you really need to have every house in the corner with speakers?

I got no need to stream subscriptions based music. I run my own squeezebox server for music I have locally.

These are all personal choice and for me the cost is not justified

  • Very nice find OP… ordered!

  • +1

Devastated. Just ordered 1 speaker for 70.000 points few weeks ago. Received and never opened. Chat to support today to see if I can return to get credit back, so I will use credit to order this pair again (no, I didn’t tell them I would redeem this again). Unfortunately they said can’t refund. Bummer. I have another one that I am using. The bass is definitely a bit overwhelming. There is no Harman Kardon App. You need Google Home app to operate these speakers and you can’t adjust the sound Equaliser. You will be stuck with its original sound unless Google or HK do something. Also Bluetooth is a bit laggy, around 0.5-1 second delay. Most other speakers would be less than 0.5sec. But 70.000 points for 2 is a very good deal.

    • Oh what? You can't even use them without an app…. Users be warned. That's smart speakers for you these days

      • You can use it without an app once set up.

    • That’s what some reviews have reported.

Did you listen to the base first hand?

    • +1

Thanks for noting the Bluetooth lag. Was thinking of getting these as a pair for my desktop PC but sounds like they won't be the best option…

      • Also considering them for a pc setup but might give them a miss now..

        • I was thinking the same thing.
Would the lag issue exist on all wireless or just these?

          • +1

@Pufff: If you play over Wifi, no lag. But Bluetooth is so laggy with these speakers. Can’t do PC setup because there is no audio jack input.

  • thanks, been trying to use my points for ages but keep getting error messages
thought i'd roll the dice and it went through

should be a good upgrade from the home minis

  • Can anyone confirm they work as a pair with Airplay2?

    • +1

You’ll need to set them up as a pair in google home app then they’re good to go

  • There’s a lot of talk about Google assistant, but does it work well with Apple TV?

  • I have all things Alexa, wish this had an option to connect to Alexa natively :(

  • Ordered, thanks OP. These are chromecast compatible which is a huge plus for me

  • Tempting for 20000 points + $115 but not sure if I should save those points..

    • How are you getting that? It's showing $143 for me with 20,000 points

      • I made a mistake, meant 30000 points.

  • +1

Telstra Plus points expire after 3 years. Offload them while you can.

    • That's only if you haven't paid a Telstra bill for those 3 years right?

      • +1

The FAQ just says they expire 3 years after earning them

    • +1

Oh wow good catch. Seems like they expire after 3 years. I did not know that, thanks!

  • Fast delivery guys. Ordered last night and already dispatched!

  • Review here if you’re still on the fence.

  • Thanks OP !!!
I was looking for a google home enabled speaker and this will nicely sit in my 2 bathrooms.

Bose / Sonos will be better for the sound but as per the Youtube link someone posted - Google Home is not supported!!

Oh no but I have only 100 points..

    • Sonos One supports both Alexa and Google, you can choose which assistant to use.

      • Voice assistant works well on Bose as well.

What I meant was Google Home will not recognise them as a native speaker but as a "device"

Can you combine/group your Sonos speaker with other brands speaker ans play it together?
Also can you ask your Sonos one to play YouTube Music?

Eg. hey google play youtube music on Sonos One.

Bose cannot ;) and above features are what I want and I didnt want to buy "Nest" Speakers only to get the above features.

        • Yes, just tried the command with HK and it works.
My Sonos (currently not connected) also showing as native speaker in Google Home app so pretty sure it will work too.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

I'm pretty sure when I looked yesterday, the grey version wasn't on sale.

It looks like they are now: https://checkout.telstra.com.au/consumer/rewards/headphones-…

  • +1

    Got mine delivered today.

These are very impressive speakers. I’d pay for another two if I had more points.

  • Just got these, is it possible to use these as desktop/tv speakers?

    • They don’t have any 3.5mm audio jacks so I’m guessing you might get delay from wireless connectivity.

    • As per Uetecu, they don't have 3.5mm audio jacks, bluetooth connection has significant delay while in paired mode, single speaker is fine

  • Does anyone know if you get a pack with 2 inside or is it delivered like 2 individual boxes? (so I could use as gifts)

    • +1

You will receive two separate boxes so you can gift them.

  • How do they compare to apple HomePod or google home Max?

  • +3

Got these and tested them out over a couple of days.. The good points.. Look great and sound fantastic for the size.. The bad points.. Airplay pauses and disconnects roughly every 10 mins.. Even when they aren't paired and are singles.. They both do it.. Bluetooth latency is crazy badm. Fofget about syncing these up with video.. On airplay they are perfectly in sync. If you switch to Blutooth mode.. They disconnect from Google home and need a factory reset and to be set up from scratch to get working again.

It's a shame because they sound so great.. No subwoofer required…

Anyways I'm going through the motions to return them.. Because I couldn't in good conscience sell them on.

If you search online the problems I've had seem very common… I think it's a dud model.

    • Thanks for the info - do you experience video sync issues when using airplay? Or is the delay only with bluetooth?

      • +1

Airplay is in sync with video perfectly… but just stops every 10mins or so… ive got strong wifi.. and even when split up as individual units it does it… i thought i might have had one bad one.. but both do it. The sound is good enough from even just one unit i would have been happy, dont even need a stereo linked pair.. but i cant have it stop constantly.

        • +1

Received mine yesterday and after setting them all up (they're literally 10cm and 50cm away from my wireless router - with green signal on 5ghz on Netgear Orbis RBR20) I have the same exact 10 min airplay disconnect issue (single and/or both speakers when selected). I think this is more to do with airplay then anything else though.

For people having similar issue my work around was to just connect via bluetooth after already having paired both speakers via google home app - not a bad work around since they're always on by default you can always select it as an speaker output option on your devices immediately. Using bluetooth does not interrupt the other google smart features so can't really see any negatives here for using bluetooth instead of airplay (except that one of the speakers will always have the bluetooth blue led indicator on whilst the other does not, which can be annoying for anyone who likes consistency - both on / off)

Also wanted to note when connected via airplay (5ghz) or bluetooth minimal lag-time of what feels like 0.5 to 1 sec for response in pause / play / skim / etc. Bottom line are they sound great so I'm happily keeping them.

@BhubbyCarter: I'm not sure if you will read this, but Harman won't update the firmware automatically, you have to request them to update your device.

Send them a support request and they will do it.

The disconnection is apparently a know issues.

            • @Jofzar: Thanks heaps mate - yeah my issues were getting pretty bad so reached out to tech support and theu provided me with the below link to raise a ticket to update the CAST FIRMWARE from v1.40 (https://citationsupporthelp.freshdesk.com/en/support/tickets…).

If others notice they're on CAST FIRMWARE v1.40 you guys should do the same

              • @BhubbyCarter: thanks for this. How do they "push" the update to you? Do you need to be connected via google home and also give them the model serial no. etc?

                • @firepowered: Yeah so actually had some good customer support but it seemed it was pretty technical to resolve - had to provide them with each devices serial number, mac id (via screen shot of google home) and current firmware version. It seemed they then manually provisioned my devices to be included in a firmware update push and had advised me that they will automatically be updated via google home in next 48 hours and when its occured the version number will be updated - yet to see this happen yet.

  • Got these today and they will not connect to Google Home..

Absolutely frustrating and nearing the point where I am going to return them.

    • +1

Got mine delivered on Sat morning and they connected fine for me to Google Home.
How is your network configured? Do you have both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands on the same SSID or are they on separate SSIDs?
I have the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands on separate SSIDs and also fixed the channel used for each and so far have not had any issues. I have connected them to the 2.4Ghz SSID and have stereo paired them in the Google Home app. They have been working faultlessly for me since Sat afternoon.

I other thing to note, make sure that you phone is on the same network when adding them to Google Home. So if you are going to connect them to the 2.4Ghz network, make sure your phone is also connected on the 2.4Ghz network. If the speaker is trying to connect on 2.4Ghz and your phone is on the 5Ghz network, they won't be found by the Google Home app.

If you do have both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands on the same SSID, you can try turning off one of the bands while you add the speakers to Google Home. Once its all done, you can then re-enable the other band.

      • Worked it out. Ended up deleting my Home and re-adding everything.
