  • Or $839 at Costco, but you may have trouble getting OW to match/beat that ;-)

Eh. They're kind of weird laptops and a little overpriced still. Hard to write on, trackpad is funky, but they're so slim that maybe you'd get them anyway. I think they're the slimmest non-MacAir ultra lappies.

    Asus U31F-RX132V 13.3" Core i5 Notebook - $499 Computer Alliance

Found this notebook while for a good value laptop for a friend.

Hard to believe there are many more i5's around in 13.3 inch laptops for such a small price.

Maybe better deal ????? Different screen size, but worth the savings…

    • This is an ultrabook with a 64GB SSD drive. It's like a Macbook Air.

That is just a regular 13" subnotebook.

      • Yes it is technically a ultrabook (as per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrabook), but a low specced (and in reality) an over priced netbook

        • How so? Does it resume from hibernate in under 7 seconds? Is it at most 18mm thick?

          Edit:
Oops, I guess you meant the UX21, yes it is. And if you pick a different configuration it will blow all others away with its performance (it comes with up to i7 256GB SSD).

The alternative given here for $499 is not.

    • I would much prefer the one you suggested for two (well it started at two reasons then it became more) reasons:
      - i5 vs i3
      - upgradeable ram, this ultrabook is not
      - with the price difference i can buy a 256gb ssd + more memory etc
      - better battery life
      - 11" is too small

    • By the way, that deal expired. Stock ran out FAST.

      • Yup, but fortunately it didn't meet my requirements (I only buy laptops with a 17"+ screens :)

          defeats the purpose of mobility.

        • maybe he has big lap

Why would I want to lug a 17" screen through the airport? 11" is absolutely perfect for me. If I want a huge screen with no portability, I'd use my desktop computers.

        • mobility vs. usability, but each to their own

      • that's why you won't be seeing many ultrabooks with a 17" screen! well not anytime soon

  • Before you buy the UX21, do yourself a favour and try out the keyboard in store. I was so close to buy one, it is very sexy looking. But typing on it was hell.
