  • Tool belt looks good.

    • +1

Yes, handy to have when working at height.

      • It would cost $10+ just to buy a hammer loop.

    • good enough for its price, mine lasted one year, enough for me to buy a proper belt.

but i just keep buying this 20$ belt coz the pourch is detachable, and it is light weight, the only thing bad about this belt is the main belt itself, its just nylon.

How does the laser level compare to Bosch?

  • Hychika ones on eBay are only 33.99 with discount at the moment

  • Laser level Accuracy of ±8mm@10m with self-levelling range ±4 degrees, not sure if this is good or bad for a laser level…

    • No thats not very good, but its what you get for $50. If you want better accuracy then need to spend a few hundred.
If your just using it just to hang a few pictures or whatever then its probably fine.

      • Yea it didn't sound too good, Will probably spend a bit more as ill be using it for house renos

        • Yeah go for something better than this. Depends if you want a cross line or rotating laser. If your going line get a 3 axis. Check out the info on this site for differences between types etc. I am not affiliated with this site in any way.

  • Anyone help with the paint sprayer, any good ? Never used one before.
    The Ozito one is $299.

    • I cant comment on this specific model, but I bought the aldi airless sprayer a few years ago to paint the colorbond corrugated roof of my house. It is a great little unit, just needed to buy a better tip for the gun to get a good finish.

      • How did you get on?
I'm planning on doing the same to a large tiled roof also with an Aldi sprayer, any tips ie; roof prep, paint used, more hoses, tip size, etc

Never used an airless before so don't want to F I U, but nice to be able to save 7k as I have no probs working on roofs.

if you can, practice on a fence first.

          • @codaroma: Thanks for the tip- no fencing but I've got some internal doors to do as well, so I'll have a go on them first.

Is overspray a problem with these and would I have to mask-off all the gutters, facias, etc

            • @alidli: foot wide strips of stiff cardboard or masonite tucked in between the bottom row of tiles and the gutters that you can move along as you go might help.

            • @alidli: I had never used an airless sprayer before this. I had about 30 seconds practice on some cardboard before I started and then just ripped in. I started at the back in a spot that you can't see from the ground cos I knew the first bit might not be great. I was surprised how quick and easy it was to do. Roof is about 250m2 and was cottage green colour, took about 2hrs per coat. I didn't bother taping off the gutters because I painted them after in a different colour (windspray for roof, monument on gutters) and they had heaps of overspray on them. I spent many days preparing the roof, several high pressure washes, scrubbed with a broom etc and it was very clean before I painted, undercoated sections that needed it. Just take your time and don't have the tip too close to the roof or you get runs. Buy a 300 to 600mm extension tube to save your back, makes it a lot easier. I used Haymes paint, can't remember how many litres but it was about $900 in paint for roof and gutters, sprayer was $250, new tip was $70, plus other bits and pieces I spent about $1500 all up. My sprayer has a 10m hose, its not long enough and I had to move the sprayer too often and made the job harder than it needed to be, if I did it again ide get a longer hose 15-20m.

The biggest issue was the wind, had to do it on days where there was zero wind, I had to abort several attempts due to wind even though it was extremely light the paint was just blowing away. A couple of times no wind at ground level, get up on the roof and it was too windy to spray.

Overall it turned out really well, when up on the roof you can see the occasional paint run, but from the ground it looks perfect, you can't see them, the neighbour's keep asking me to do theirs. I have just done a reno 3 years after painting and had to add a bunch of new colourbond, you can barely see the diff between new and painted. I live at the beach and the paint is still in great condition, no peeling or flaking.

              • @Dodg07: Excellent roundup Dodg, thanks for that; gives me more confidence to have a go.
Sounds like the paint flies on once you get going and pleased you made a decent job of your place.

Did you use the sprayer to do the facias and gutters?

                • @alidli: I used a brush on the fascia and gutters because I knew the overspray would get on the roof sheets. Purchased a really good quality brush and used paint flow assist to help it go on better.
One further tip, make sure your gutters are clean internally and dry, had some dirt/muck remnants in mine and small amounts of moisture/water in other sections and the sprayer just blew it up onto the roof and i had to wipe off a bunch of paint and clean gutters before continuing, I only made that mistake once.

  • Looks like these are similar to Aldi specials. They come out on Thursdays with extremely limited stock. Only 2 stores in the Melbourne area seem to have any stock of the paint sprayer today (Friday).
