Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC Waterforce WB LHR Graphics Card $1800 + Delivery @ CCPU Computers

290

After selling my 3070 for $1650 today i went shopping for a 3080….

Found this LHR but it is a waterforce! I placed an order but it needs to be confirmed by the shop before i will bank the money. It does not appear to have an option to pay via credit card.

Edit: no more stock on hand. Owner taking pre-orders though

Disclaimer: I do not live in NSW and i do not know if this shop is legit. However it does have an ABN and it is shown on google maps.

You must have a proper water cooling system to install this graphic card. It is not a "standard" GC.

Looks like the dodgiest website I've ever seen.

    • i agree. can anyone who lives in NSW let me know if this mob is legit

      • +3

Well their ABN is certainly legit

Bought from them over 10 years ago a budget build of components numerous times. All worked out at that time. I can say they are legit business and the store is in a small shopping complex near Carlingford shopping centre.

      • +2

I've walked pass the shop a lot of times. Seems like a legit computer shop but I've never seen anyone inside.

      • +2

I bought an MSI rtx 3090 gaming x trio from ccpu, legit store.

      • +3

They are nice guys bought from them a handful of times. A small little shoo in the carliford court shopping complex

      • +2

This place is legit have purchased in person

    • Funnily enough a lot of the brick & mortar shops websites look dated asf like this tbh. It's not that unusual.

      • +8

If their prices aren't on a 6 page pdf I don't even bother

    • Clearly doesn't remember the MSY website not too long ago XDF

  • +6

I have bought from them back in 2004… if that helps

    • +21

By the looks of the site, you sure that wasn't back in 1994?

      • +8

The shop is in the Carlingford Village, which itself takes you back to the 70s, as it hasn't been renovated since.

        • +2

          Village opened around 2000.
I've bought stuff from this place but not since 2010.
          Across the road from fluidtek

          • +5

@daft009: Haha the soup Nazi of computers.

That guy at fluidtek treated people rudely and I've seen him kick out a customer for asking too many questions. That's how I discovered ccpu as didn't always like going to fluidtek.

He now runs the Logitech shop on eBay.

            • +1

@japik: Yeah Eddy used to own a shop in North rocks before that and before that he used to run from his house

              • +1

@daft009: Yep been in his garage PC shop as well. He was cheaper than most at that time.

          • +1

            @daft009: hahaha, so nostalgic!

fluidtek's website is still online and hasn't been updated in a while…. 🤣

            • @Tavisophical: Memories.
Back when I was a student and had more money than time 😂

          • @daft009: He was always so rude if you came to ask him for a price because he would say he is the cheapest in Sydney do not waste his time.

His prices were very good at the time, still using my Logitech speakers I got from him for so cheap

  • +2

Call their number tomorrow. It’s a real place/legit. Prob stuffed the pricing (then again it’s lhr eww)

    • +1

I believe Carlingford is lockdown and Computer store won't allow to open. They might not answer the calls.
I used to buy from them when i lived just nearby.

looking at some owners of the card…

it still runs hot due to gigabyte crap thermal pads… however it is watercooled so i would think it is still better than standard gigabyte 3080s.

    • I got the non lhr version of this card recently. I haven't checked my memory temps yet, are the pads worth changing? My box came with thermal paste, wasn't too sure what it was for.

      • yes for sure. just make sure u check if it voids ur warranty with gigabyte before doing so.

I heard many who changed the pads with quality ones having temps dropping over 10c

        • Thanks for the heads up. Do you know what type/thickness size pads they're using?

          • @luannyboyz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUTM8j4Oj78

in the comments i think the op said he used 2mm but he did it wrong and had lower memory but higher core

One person said he used 1.5mm and 1mm and that did the job

            • @MaxHashrate: I posted that video's original comment! 1mm and 1.5mm seem to suit. I might look into getting those two sizes.

              • @luannyboyz: i think maybe u can contact gigabyte and ask them which is best for this particular card. At the same time check if it voids ur warranty. let me know as well…

I mean they shouldn't void ur warranty if they started using crap pads in the first place!

My gainward 3080's, gainward said strictly no warranty if i change to waterblock/change thermal pads.

              • @luannyboyz: Hey, I was wondering did you end up fixing the thermal pads and what did you use?

Also does the plastic shroud covering the waterblock come off?

I am tossing up between this and buying a waterblock seperately.

                • @blackfalcon53: Not yet, waiting for a few watercooling fittings & accessories so I can empty my loop to install and change the pads as well.
I ordered 1mm and 1.5mm Thermalright thermal pads from the eBay tech sale last week. Also had some leftover 2mm thermal grizzly if that size needed to be changed.
I am not too sure if the plastic shroud is removable, why would you remove it? Make it look more clear or less bulky?

                  • @luannyboyz: Thanks for the reply!

Yeah I was thinking to make it look more clear, as I like the look of the Bykski waterblock style.

                    • @blackfalcon53: Hey mate, I managed to remove the shroud and installed it without it as well, looks much cleaner. You will only need 1mm and 2mm pads, made a ~6 degrees difference on gpu memory for me.

                      • @luannyboyz: Oh woah, that actually looks really sick! Super clean, well done.

Wish I had got one of these now haha.

I ended up going with a PNY one i'm gonna install a Bykski block on.

Make sure you understand what is "Waterforce". You must have a proper water cooling system to install this graphic card. It is not a "standard" GC.

    • +2

Yep, adding to this there is an AIO version but that doesn’t appear to be it. I have this and needs the rest of the loop to cool it.

      • Yeah I have to buy water cooling kit (cheapest option) and end up cost me 500 extra to the build .

  • +2

I bought a 3900x cpu from them in 2020 in person, the store didn't have its card processing working at the time but the CPU is good. As was the price, lowest in Sydney at the time.

    • +1

No card processing == no GST :)

So they are committing tax fraud? Asking for a friend (ATO) ;)

        • Unwise to extrapolate statements is what lawyers would say!

  • +1

    Confirming these guys are legit.

  • +2

Shop is legit; it has been around for 20+ years. I bought 2x PC's from them back then

  • +2

I've been here in person. They're like a shop that never got out of the 90s, PC parts used and new just crammed everywhere. but they're definately therev.

    • +1

They do some repair work as well when i lived there 10 years ago. Very messy desk :)

  • +2

I buy most of my stuff from these guys since they opened as I used to live near them.

I have moved away from them but still go back whenever my PC needs a service.

    They are legit.

    • +1

Hey just wondering if you rate their services and prices?

      • Yes, I have known them for years.

I always bargain with them on price. Pay cash or savings for best deals.

  • +3

I wonder which dumb richass bought his 3070….

  • +3

Woah what moron bought your 3070 for that price? Congrats on the sale

  • +1

Wow, brings back memories that store. I remember buying a Diamond Stealth 3D video card from them 20 or so year's ago with a whopping 4mb on board…..was the bees knees back and how well Doom and Flight Sim played. ha! . I drove 20km as was the cheapest at the time. I still have the original PC (win95). How far technology as come but having said that……so have the prices……$1800+, just for a video card. It's well for some that can afford such luxuries (jealous words)!

  • +1

They are totally legit. I live 5 minutes from them. Great bunch of guys.

  • +6

Sent a cheque by fax for 2, thanks OP.

  • I bought my first SSD from this shop, back in 2008!

  • I can confirm that Im one suburb away from this store

    • +6

I can confirm that I'm much further away from the store than you are.

  • I'm regretting selling my MSI 3070 gaming trio non-LHR for $1250.

    • Why would you regret that? You literally got what it’s “worth” a fool would pay anymore than that

    • You probably would have only gotten an extra $200 anyway. Think about the guys that payed $3000 for a 3080. Now that would have been a big loss compared to now.

  • Gigashyte?

Be years before that name appears anywhere in my builds again, regardless of price.

    • I went all out on my ryzen build and bought the Aorus x570 xtreme at what i thought at the time was a ludicrous price for a motherboard (things have since gotten worse of course). But despite the cost, I couldnt be happier with the board itself. It was over priced, and for that i got a board that is clearly over engineered and just way more solid, feature packed and nicer to work with than anything i would have gotten for less. Their software though is attrocious. And i think that seems to be a common issue with most motherboard vendors these days. I would kill for a simple lightweight software suite using plain windows colours (no stupid flashy UIs for functionality to get lost in) and RGB software that just does what its meant to and hides in the background unkown to the user for the rest of its life (unless you want to use it again to change lighting of course).

Ive used software from 3 of the major players now, Gigabyte, Asus and MSI and its all just varying degrees of terrible.

      • +1

OpenRGB is what you're looking for

        • I have tried a few of the open programs that promise to control lighting from all manufacturers with varying degrees of success. I will definately give this one a shot. Thanks for the recommendation

edit: every single one of my devices on 2 seperate PCs is listed as being fully compatible. Already off to a far better start than any other software ive tried

      • I just don't like the way GB pushed a known faulty (and dangerous) product onto the market. Once confidence is damaged this way I'm done. For years.

        • Oh wow, just watched what you linked….yeah thats disturbing to say the least. I way over spend on PSUs when its for a PC for myself, and stuff like that makes me glad i did. Seasonic Prime Ultra doesnt seem like such a waste of money now! (nah the price of that thing still hurts)

  • +1

I like buying from online stores that were made from Geocities.

  • I hope they never change the website. Golden - reminds me of buying PC gear in the 90s/00s (and yes the msy price list was always golden too)

    • People whinged about prices.pdf but god it made everything so easy to quickly find without having to navigate a slow clunky website.

  • Got an email today from owner. Called the number on google maps to confirm details. He reminded me it was LHR and needed a water pump.

Postage to WA total $1815 with insurance with Fastway (UGHHHHHH).

Anyway, looking forward for a watercooled build. They look so sexyyyyy…

  • Called in today, they don't actually have any stock and he's just pre-selling them

    • u might have been too late.

I have received a payment request

"If you like to pay from Paypal, please inform us,we'll email you the Paypal
payment request. Paypal will surcharge 2.6% +$0.30 on top.

As soon as we receive your payment, we'll send the goods with invoice to you
      immediately."

I ordered late last night though

      • Yup my order is confirmed and will be sent soon. Just checked.

Seems like out of stock but taking pre-orders.

        • Got a call from him, Saying he doesn't have stock but can order them in for shipping + pickups. Let me know when yours ship!

          • @truongster: Mine got shipped out on friday. I asked for more today. He said sold out.
