What Car Do You Have?

Let’s see what the people of ozbargain drive. Is the cash people are saving off this website enough for some high end cars? Probably not, but let’s hear it anyway. (No I don’t drive).

    2016 Honda S660

    • Love these and so tiny and rare.

How does the gearbox work, clutch less manual?

      Enjoying it?

      • +1

I have a normal manual clutch. The CVTs are paddle shifts if I remember correctly

Have had so much fun driving it. Overall the car is very snappy and responsive, mid engine weight distribution makes you stick to the ground. Going on windy roads is like a sped-up rollercoaster ride because you sit so close to the ground to feel all the bumps and G's.

Would only recommend if you can fit inside the car comfortably, and don't mind not having boot space.

        • Looks like fun. I was eyeing one up as a daily but asking too much.

How's the fuel economy and is sourcing parts an issue?

          • @Bid Sniper: the price of importing an s660 have skyrocketed since Honda announced end of production earlier this year, on-top of covid markup at the moment; doesnt make it the most cost-efficient enthusiast JDM vehicle out there lol.

fuel econ is great - average $30 a full tank of 98 which goes around 450km.

sourcing parts isnt a big issue, just have to factor in shipping fees + time from japan

if you're interested in other JDM imports I can suggest you to a trustable JDM import dealer

            • @Kyou mo Kawaii: That very cool. Was kinda expensive pre covid but now WOW, they're tracking 12K higher and only 2 for sale.

Yeah be interested in a JDM importer, post here or PM me if thats easier

    • +1

Love these, my favourite car I've ever owned. I actually owned 2 in my lifetime, one day I'll hopefully get another s15.

      • Not sure if you're aware of the prices these days…it's actually disturbing.

      • Agree. Loved mine to bits and regret getting rid of it due to growing family. Just dawned on me it's a 20 year old car, but still looks very modern (I put the FD RX7 in this same category).

    • Stock?

  • 2021 i30N Manual Premium
    2017 Octavia RS Wagon
Both great cars! Wondering what a worthy replacement for the Octavia RS will be in the next year or two. Would like an RS3 sedan or maybe a Golf R Wagon.

Would also like to add an MX5 back into the stable, either an NA like I used to have, but given high prices now probably an ND2 RF.

    • +1

Lots of i30n’s which is not bad thing!

  • Current model Audi A4 wagon and current Range Rover Velar.

Still love a bargain, even today was at the SaveMore discount supermarket! Offset bargains with moderately expensive cars to maintain.

  • 2011 2.9L Porsche Cayman (manual)
1990 Malibu Gold NA MX5 (manual)
    2009 Nissan 370Z (auto - partners car)

    Currently on the look out for a tidy well priced S2000, NC2 & NA8 MX5, Clio 182 & 200 and finally a 981 Boxster.
I have had quite a lot of cars now, some previous ones are worth a lot more now too.
I often cycle through them, then sell off to buy a house.

But from now on I really want to avoid selling my cars if I can afford it. People are catching on, the analog sports car is almost dead. Time to get them now before it gets even more ridiculous. Money is not just the only problem. Storage is too. Unfortunately you can only have so much undercover/secure car space in these 'caged egg' new housing developments.

Tesla Model 3. Most expensive car I've ever owned by far

A significant capital cost, although I charge from excess home solar and save around $400 a month in fuel.

I do travel a lot (self employed), and it's worth it for the comfort. I also drive MORE for fun because I don't feel bad about burning up petrol so there's additional value there that's hard to measure.

Most of my cars have been 7-10 years old when I trade them, and I think this is a good choice.

If you don't, and you hate Tesla, or Elon, or electric cars, I invite you to keep scrolling :)

    • Nice stuff!

    • +1

I'm surprised the Model 3 hasn't been mentioned much as many people seem to recommend them whenever a "Recommend me a car" thread comes up. Pipe dreams perhaps?

    • It's funny, but the Tesla's are still in early adopter territory, but in the same way as solar is a pay now save later investment, so too are EV's. In a similar way, they're both coming down in cost. I'm in the same boat, most expensive car by far and powered by solar / local supermarkets.
I agree, EV's are the most fun cars to drive, they have guilt free acceleration, (no noise to annoy others). Cost nearly nothing to drive. So convenient to charge.
Don't get me wrong, I love classic cars, but in the same way as steam trains are cooler than electric trains, not for daily drivers.
I think the irony with Tesla's are that they position themselves as the future of Self driving tech, but are also very much fun to drive.
I also think that EV's are competitive now on overall lifetime vehicle cost, but in the not too distant future (2-5 years), the initial cost will be similar or cheaper than ICE.
Ultimately self driving cars / transport as a service will mean that most people wont need to own a personal vehicle. Just like uber but 1/10th the cost.

2001 Hyundai Accent. Bought it for 1500$ 4 years ago 174K. Spent around 2000$ on tires and other necessary items in the last 4 years except servicing cost. Overall no issues.
Changed 3 jobs but the car is still the same :)

    • +1

Oh yes I remember my good old 2000 accent 3 Dr. was very reliable indeed drove it forever and didn't even need to service it got very lucky bought of an old guy whose even older father died and left the car it had only 130k and cost me a measley $1000 back in 2018 it just ran forever until I decided to upgrade

      • +1

Yeah, the outlook of the car is not great but she is reliable.

        • +1

Actually gave it to my niece when she got her L's and she drove it for another 6 months until she upgraded now I think her mother is using it as a spare

  • Corolla. Maybe a Model 3 next, though I wouldn't mind the Cybertruck if it makes it to Australia.

    2019 Lexus LC500 - surprisingly daily drivable
2017 Mini Countryman - Mrs’ daily

    • Nice! I love the LC500. One of my dream cars. That interior in Tan is to die for.

Hopefully it depreciates a little bit that I can get one for around 60k. And a Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0L would be amazing too.

    • LC500 is such a underrated car. That's the true new supra IMO Such amamzing attention to detail that car has.

      • +1

Happy for it to stay that way, it feels like one in a million in Sydney

  • 2012 Holden Cruze SRi-V

Been a decent car for me but my next car will be a dual cab ute. If i could afford to upgrade I would have years ago. Been so many occassions where an open ute tray would have been handy for picking stuff up.

  • BK Mazda 3

  • Aston Martin was my childhood toy car. Learned to drive on a 30HP Beetle. Purchased a 4 speed Corolla with no power brakes so could turn engine off downhill. Mods were: Variable mixture carburettor to run it lean, ultra high voltage ignition, and easy adjust ignition timing point to max the power vs consumption. Drove it 100s of hours petal to the metal. Used 1.5l of engine oil per 100 km before one of the conrods gave up. Later went back to a Corolla 3 times!

Looking to upgrade my merc, ?911 vs taycan

    • +1

911 or Taycan. You cant go wrong with either.
911s are expensive in Australia compared to other countries which sucks though.

I have a 2011 Cayman myself. I don't think I will ever be able to afford a new 911. But I hope to be able to get into a 718 GTS 4.0L Boxster before they end production in a few years.

Its the perfect car in my eyes.

    • +1

      911 for sure!!!

    • Really? Nice!

  • +1

    2008 BMW E90.
Amount spent on parts is approaching the price of the car. Would absolutely not recommend unless you do the wrenching yourself.

    • +1

Always wanted a E92 335i or M3. I have had a few good opportunities to get one. But I chicken out everytime.

So I got a Cayman instead.
