great for avoiding leaving DNA at the crime scene

Seeing some significant price hikes. Is that normal?

    • Example? Their prices have gone up since they first opened up in Melb.

      • +18

Pretty sure all bikes have gone up. Had my eye on the 24" Rockrider ST 500 which was $389 yesterday now $499. Smaller 20" model has also gone up from $349 to $399.

Google search Rockrider ST 500 and you will still see the old pricing still cached in the search results.

Edit: They just dropped the price of the 24" to $459 but still… shady.

        • Not sure on bikes but the tubes and tyres I bought were the same price

        • +6

I asked Decathlon's customer support about the price jack. The customer support said it's a known pricing issue and they will be adjusted by tomorrow.
I guess the 20% off will also end by tomorrow?

        • Tilt 500 Folding Bike 20"

… may have been jacked from $439 to $529.

        • Been following their prices for hybrid and road bikes since lockdown started. The entry level and mid-range bikes have increased slightly but the top tier $999 ones have stayed the same.

    • The dumbbells I bought last week didn't get hiked :(

Awesome, bought a tent and kayak. Hope I can use them this summer. BTW the kayak is already discounted, used the coupon for further discount

    • Which kayak did you get, and have you taken it for a spin yet?

  • Any details on how long the sale lasts?

    • Decathlon are normally pretty keen to send out an email when they have sales but I haven't got one yet. Often they include a countdown timer

      Same as most things here.
      iPhone with less components.
      Samsung phones with inferior processors.
Cars with smaller displacement options that cost more than top of the line models abroad. Oh and Tesla’s.
We still eat it up :)

      • iPhone with less components? Could you elaborate?

Aus is a tiny market and far far away. Hence the AU tax

        • Aus is a tiny market and far far away. Hence the AU tax

Not necessarily true. Tesla sells their cars online therefore their infrastructure is the same across the world except for local labour.

To send a MIC Model 3 (which is AU$52k in CNY) and sell it for AU$60k), you can pack into a 20ft container and basically drive it off the docks. To send a container is how much? $6k? no way.

European cars. The parts here are many times more than how much they would cost in Europe. Just the part.

          • @netjock: I see what you're saying but it's not just the shipping costs. There's also the cost of setting up business here, staff pay, GST etc.

If Australia was a bigger market sure but there's only so many cars/phones/whatever they can sell here per year. They have to base their pricing on something.

….and then add a bit on top because they know they can :)

            • @andresampras:

There's also the cost of setting up business here, staff pay, GST etc.

That is the point. Compare it to USA. How come Teslas are more expensive even after shipping and taxes?

It isn't like Tesla has a warehouse paying rent for to store more cars than they can sell.

              • @netjock: Had a look and not sure how this adds up. Base model 3 Tesla in the US is 39,990 before taxes and fees. This does not include GST (which where I used to live amounts to about 7%, but varies a lot). Plus on-roads, dealer delivery and whatever BS they dream up. $40k US is already about $55K AUD. With the AUS drive-away at $65k, the US is potentially paying the premium here after taxes and fees, but it's about even.

More dubious when you add self-driving which is $10,000USD plus tax there; or $10,100AUD here.

                • @Shleepy:

$10k isn't about even, if it was some worthless currency maybe.

Don't forget we're getting MIC Teslas not American Teslas. Don't mix the two and say about even

Don't drink Elon Musk Cool Aid.

        • The iPhone 12 in the US (to be fair, this only applies to the states - and pretty much nowhere else) have a mmWave antenna, whereas here they don't. And counting in taxes (they differ by state in the States, but even counting the heaviest sales tax rates of around 10%) and conversion rates, Australian iPhones come out to around aud 100 more across the board.

      • +1

Again, not really apples and apples. The USD price does not include dealer delivery, taxes and other things the "ride-away" price the Australian bike includes. These can really add up in the US. Even added, the AUD price is likely higher, but it is hard to know if the net margins are greater once you factor in import costs and the like. You have to remember, vehicle pricing in the US is like vehicle pricing in Australia a la 1995.

        • USD price does not include dealer delivery

You know that is con job of a fee right? Go to Woolworths and see if the price on the shelf is ex freight. Why don't we negotiate price of the bike and negotiate again on the delivery fee.

  • single use code per email, however you can add suffix to gmail for workaround

  • I received this code on my birthday and was about to put in an order - thought it's strange that the code was invalid. Sent decathlon an email to ask about it… Came here and found out what truly was the cause of they taking down the promotion code that was meant for user as birthday discount….

    • Happy birthday my guy!

    • Generic code, what could go wrong lol
