                          • @thesainter: My point is that some of the most liked posts on threads are sexual jokes. Their not even funny sex jokes, their lame sex jokes. I'm more offended by how unfunny they are rather than their content.

However, I'm not just thinking about me. I'm thinking about the others that see that and think 'this isn't the place for me'. As this is a user generated community, and a fairly high profile website, I think the mods probably should consider raising the bar of the commentary a little higher.

Look, sorry if this offends you. I know I've worded my posts like a bit of a bastard. I don't want to take away anybodies joy or social outlet, I'm just posing the idea that maybe this shouldn't be the place for those jokes. Maybe mine is an unpopular and radical opinion, I'm willing to accept that possibility. I've said my peace now.

Been a Whirlpool member for probably 15 years. There we go. shrug.

                            • @tedzr: Nothing you can say will offend me, just think your a cock wobble - which also feels (profanity) fantastic to say,

And as whirlpool member for just a long - glad i can say that here - and why WP is boring, stale and slowly dying

                              • @thesainter: Lol! I see your point. That does feel good to say. Cheeky.

                • @tedzr: "Informed purchasing decisions?" Mate, it's ozbargain. Bargain first, regrets later.

        • Porn is what the 14tb drive deals are for.

        • It’s about buying for your needs. That’s why they give storage options.

  • This vs 2nd hand/refurb 10.5 inch iPad Pro?
Leaning toward 10.5 for the quad speakers and 120hz

    • +2

I have both, but gave my 10.5 iPad Pro (2017) with Touch ID home button to my grandparents.

Besides the 120hz display, this iPad Air is much better IMO. Still has stereo speakers and Touch ID (although in less convenient spot)

USB C is a game changer, much more flexible: comes with USB-c 20w super charger, USB C file transfer, get a dongle for hdmi to tv/monitor, sd card/USB A file transfer etc, (power pass through is good with dongle)

Compatible with more accessories, eg magic keyboard (which is way overpriced), new Apple Pencil.

The aspect ratio is better with no top/bottom bezels: less cropping for media, especially film.

I assume update support will last much longer with iPad Air 4, 3 year release difference?

If 120hz is important, look for any refurb/new 11 iPad Pro with USB C (2018-present)? Well worth extra few $$

      • Fair points. I'm also looking at price. You can get 10.5 iPad Pro (2017) 2nd hand for similar price to current base model iPad.
In this comparison the 10.5 Pro is pretty unambiguously better.
vs the iPad Air 4 its more nuanced and as you suggest probably swings toward the Air, but still not sure I want to spend the extra $ (let alone double cost for 11 Pro)

      • i use ipads at work. when i plugged it into my pc, all i can see are pictures and videos taken on the ipad. is there a way to transfer and view all the other files hidden on the ipad?

        • +1

Using iTunes you can see and transfer the files that you would normally be able to see in the File Explorer app on the iPad. It's called "File Sharing" in iTunes. There's probably 3rd party apps as well.

You can't go into an apps files like android tho (using iTunes at least).

    • +1

      Both great devices.
I'd give you a third option, 2nd hand 11" Ipad pro

      • +1

Better than 10.5 Pro for sure, but those $$$

  • I currently have the iPad Air gen 2. Is this worth upgrading if I don’t need the pencil or keyboard functionality?
The thing I like about the air is that it is light but I don’t think there is much of a weight difference between the two models is there?

    • +4

I still have iPad Air 2 and considering battery replacement :)
      (I probably won’t coz it’s not cheap)
Nothing beats air 2 to this day for weight, especially for book reading..

      • +2

Yes me too I love the ipad2 air but the battery is dying. If I had to replace the battery I may as well get the newest model. I currently have the 128gb and it’s more than sufficient. 64gb for this version is to small, I have to get the 256gb, wish there was a 128gb at a cheaper price

        • +2

          My air 2 is 16gb :)
          Perfect ebook reader

    • +1

My air 2 needs a new screen and if it wasn't for that then I wouldn't upgrade. I'm still using it from time to time but typing on it is a near impossibility because it'll tyyyype liiiikkke thhhhisss.

    • I've got the iPad Air 2 64GB as well myself. Loving how it's still so strong after about 7 years after it's initial release and it's still getting iPad OS 15!
Paid around $748 back in the day.

I haven't actually bought this deal yet as I'm contemplating what to do with the Air 2. It does the job very well and the screen is still very good. I think I can get something like $130 from Mobile Monster but I'm probably better off keeping it or giving it to the parents.

  • I’ve got the cellular version of this via the Optus deal

Got to say I’m mighty impressed as how fast it is plus screen size

At this price it’s a steal

  • +1

waiting for a jbhifi to come through..hopefully last til tomorrow…

  • Just called JB HiFi on 13 52 44 to price match Amazon and they said sorry, we don’t price match online stores. But was able to do it for me for $700 off the bat haha

    • $700 off

Did you buy it for $700 only?

    • +1

Try again. JB do price match Amazon providing it's Aussie stock

    • When I tried they told me $740 was the best they could do.

  • That’s odd I just called and they price matched lol

  • +1

Slow Pixel response time is such a disappointment on my iPad Pro 11" 2021 and it's worse on other devices.

Don't confuse refresh rate with pixel repsonse time, the refresh rate is 120Hz, it's nice and smooth but because the pixel response time is slow fast motion stuff looks like trash on iPads. You will see trails/ghosting/smearing behind images as they move across your screen because the pixels physically can't change fast enough.
    Here's an example.

In my opinion this really isn't acceptable for a device these days, it's not the worst thing in the world obviously and you can learn to not give a shit but it isn't competitive with other devices so I figured you should know about it. It's particularly bad if you're used to reading text while scrolling on your phone, you can't scroll and read on the iPad because the text will trail and become blurry.

    • Mine doesn't do that at all. Yours could be faulty?

      • +1

Yeah I thought that might be the case and certainly hoped it was just faulty but I don't think it is, for example the black to white response time for the iPad Pro 12.9" (2021) is 45ms and for the Samung Tab S7 Plus (2020) is 2.4ms.

It can be hard to tell, especially if you haven't used a screen before that has a very low pixel repsonse time a good way to tell is to try read scrolling text and see if it looks like it's trailing a little. Here's a good test.

If yours actually doesn't have it and we've got the same model I might go exchange mine because it really irritates me haha.

  • Can you use the pen on this model? Or is that only the pro

    • +1

Yup, can use the 2nd Gen pencil only

    • +1

You can use the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen on this model :). Charges wirelessly/magnetically on the side. But you gotta buy it seperately.

Edit: didn't see the response already soz

    Officeworks pricematch $711.55,
    Sold

    • Was this in store? In NSW lockdown now and their phone line doesn’t open til tomorrow.

      • +1

yep first call them up to see if they have it in stock - they put it aside for me and price matched in store. they are still open and was within 5km

        • +1

          Yes in store , sorry
Checked online to see if they had stock before I went .

        • Damn should’ve done that.

Will see if Amazon still has stock tomorrow and try first thing

  • Would this Air be a good system to edit pictures/videos in either Adobe or other ecosystems?

I'm no professional, but I enjoyed editing videos/pictures (as a hobby) in my spare time with my 2018 Macbook Pro - however it use to get too hot if I did it for long periods. On top of that I had to always do it on a desk as editing while having the laptop on my lap was a nightmare.

My thought process is that this iPad Air would work well along with a pencil - and I'd be able to do from the couch etc. I know the iPad Pro is probably the way to go, but the price is really steep compared to the Air.

  • +1

Thanks OP for posting this. Literally got one yesterday off Apple EDU for $829 but this price is so much better.

In NSW lockdown now so can’t price match at Officeworks sadly :(

  • still using his OG Air

  • Still has his OG iPad

  • I see reviews saying 64 is an unacceptable storage amount, does anyone have experience to weigh in?

    • +2

It really depends what you're using it for. I've had my Air 4 64GB since March (got it with the Education Store free AirPods deal) and mostly use it for streaming, reading comics and a little casual gaming. Just checked and it's still only half full and I haven't micromanaged the storage at all.

If you have many large, demanding games on it or a lot of downloaded videos and music, you might run into issues. But I'd say for general, day-to-day use, 64GB is totally fine.

      • It being USB-C my hope would be you could easily address some of the storage issues with a USB-C thumb drive full of movies if that's something that works.

    • I don't understand why people are so concerned about 64GB storage. If you subscribe to Microsoft Office 365 family plan, and you get 1TB cloud storage per user, wouldn't that suffice? At home, I have a 2TB portable hard-disk connected to the router, so that's another way of addressing hard-disk limitation.

      • I’m curious, can you access the 2tb HD connected to your router from your iPad ?

        • Yes I can access it via the Files app in iPad. The Files app allows users to access network drives. I was surprised how flexible Apple made it (a far cry from their previous restrictions). Technically, the Files app would also allow you to write files into the network drive, but there were some bugs at times. While the portable hard disk is formatted in NTFS (a.k.a. Windows format), there is no issue reading and writing into the drive because of SAMBA protocol for network drive communication.

      • I think it's less about storing large files or heaps of documents and more about the size apps are getting to today

  • Looks like green and silver colours of the 64GB model are out of stock.

  • +1

Just done PB with OW online (by calling) for $711.55 delivered to vic.
Blue color. Moving from ipad air gen 1 (16gb). I hope 64gb will be good just for youtube and kids apps.

    • Same here, just ordered, waited half hour in the phone queue.

  • +1

Likewise, long wait on the phone, but worth it

  • Has anyone ordered Apple products or electronics before from Amazon and chose to return it?

Is their 30 day return policy applicable to electronics which have been open boxed?

  • Hey guys has anyone matched with JB?

I would do office work but I have a few JB GCs. The rep on the phone said you could only use one gift card and said he tried it himself previously.

I just tried to enter 2 and it worked. I need to purchase another 2 via work portal but scared it’s not gonna work 😅

    • It should work just fine, I used over 10 gift cards on the JB website in one transaction no issues

      • Thanks confirm it works. Not sure if the guy on the phone is new or something ..

  • +3

All, it looks like the price has increased to $768 and $769 for the remaining stock.

    The deal is over!

    • Idk why you got downvoted. sht so lucky I price matched first thing in the morning

      • I ummmed and arrghhed about getting it from OW (no return once box is open) and just kept my Amazon order in the end…

      • Mysteries of life. So it seems Amazon is back to $749 for only the Space Grey, potentially to match OW.

  • Was on hold for Officeworks and it was $749. When I got through the price went to $768. Waste of an hour of my life.

    • Happened same for moto razr deal. They put me on hold and said price is updated and they can't PB anymore

  • How did you guys get the product code to show on the Amazon website (browser version)?

  • +1

Officeworks has it for $749 right now. Guess they changed the price before Amazon closed the original deal. I think it’s the cheapest out of everyone currently.

    • damn didnt see that :( Could have price beat that at officeworks. Oh well 749 still good price.

      • Looks like Officeworks is also 749 now so no price match?

        • That’s why OW reduced it to match Amazon so they don’t have to lose another 5%

  • Still available for me

    • +1

it came back for space grey only hence another post has been made :)

  • Has anybody received their iPad Air yet? Ours was due for delivery today, but now Amazon says:

"Delayed, not yet shipped – We will email you as soon as this order ships, and we won't charge you until then. We apologise for the inconvenience."

I'm guessing we won't receive it until the next shipment on 2 September.
