Bit slower than some other pcie 4.0 SSDs (like 7000MB/s reads and 5000MB/s writes) but seems good value for money at $150/TB. not sure about PNY as a brand tho

    • +2

Not sure this model but ordered anyway for PS5.
5 year warranty, even it fails, may just RMA and re-download the games.

        • +12

          Only cares about the exclusives
plays Xbox where exclusives also come to pc

See why people are downvoting you?

          • -2

@Intoxicoligist: Yeah, I see why people are down voting me. It's cause they're idiots!

Even though I can admit the Xbox has many strengths over the PS5…. I actually prefer Sony's for its games. Re-read my comment.

I think it's great that we still have two companies trying to be competitive in this landscape, unlike say, the dGPU market. Although I haven't bought either of those consoles, if I was going to spend my money, I personally would look at the Valve SteamDeck first.

          • +1

            @Intoxicoligist:

plays Xbox where exclusives also come to pc

Sometime I wonder if people who make these statement are aware it's just a play on words and that Xbox and Windows OS are made by the same company..

        • +1

I own both and agree that Sony's exclusives are really their trump card. I prefer Sony's controller too I probably play the Xbox more though just because of gamepass. Waiting on the next horizon game. I'll probably get Returnal when it drops in price too. Having PC/Xbox options and not being that into online multiplayer I can easily for games to drop to a cheapish price or for them to come to gamepass.

          • +1

@Geoff-bargain: Returnal is down to $75 delivered from amazon US if you’re a prime member. https://www.amazon.com.au/PlayStation-3005733-Returnal-for-5…

Absolutely stellar game. I’d never played a rogue light before and I was absolutely destroyed by this game. But it’s one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long while. The 3D audio, haptics, presentation are just amazing. And it just makes you want to keep trying.

          • +1

@Geoff-bargain: Returnal is worth grabbing if you can get a cheap copy (check marketplace, I see it there for 60-70 regularly). I have a PC with gamepass and piratebay, and PS5 for exclusives.

Servethehome have an article on the 1TB model.
      https://www.servethehome.com/pny-cs3040-1tb-pcie-gen4-nvme-s…

2TB appears to have 3600TBW endurance (missing from all the general info on the site)

  • -6

    I'm guessing won't be compatible with PS5

      • Cheers, seems like a great value storage upgrade option for PS5 owners

    • +2

      read the description please.

    • +5

According to what I've read/seen about the beta, the PS5 only really checks for PCIe Gen4 compatibility and doesn't necessarily account for speeds.

Such as this article about the ADATA XPG Gammix S50 Lite (3,900MB/s reads and 3,200MB/s writes) and Linus Tech Tip's recent video which tested the Corsair Force Series MP600 (4,950MB/s reads and 4,250MB/s writes). Both drives apparently work fine.

However, please do correct me if I'm wrong.

      • +1

Didn't know that, thanks for sharing! Could potentially save ~$200 getting the one in this post if that's the case.
Wish they would test Ratchet and Clank though.

        • Of course, that's what this community is for :)

Don't forget to grab a compatible heatsink down the line too!

        • PNY CS3040 is above PS5 minimum 5500MB/s read speed.
And PNY confirmed it's compatible for PS5

  • +2

Thanks OP, almost half price, around 42%off from RRP.
Seems good review from neweggs, even cheaper than M2 Gen4 SSDs that not in PS5 compatible list.

  • +6

That's cheap even for a 2TB PCIE 3.0 drive. Clearly not the best brand but it sure is cheap for what it claims to offer.

    • Yep, I bought a WD 2TB SN550 this week and paid more than this.

      • Haha, I like how you didn’t say how much. Anyway, the price of peace of mind :)

      • I did the same :( bought this and selling my 550 though

  • PNY are bigger in EU and US. They dont get much air time in Oceania/Asia but they are a decent brand in general.

  • +2

It's funny when you see an eBay listing's sold history and it has bugger all history but then it becomes very active after it has been posted on OzBargain.

    • also funny 1TB version from same seller is even more expensive, $319
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/333820581931

      • There's also a listing for the exact same drive that OP shared for $399, not sure if its like a "second round" deal pricing once the 300 price point gets ozbargained

  • +1

    Purchased one last night..

The price was too hard to pass on

    • +8

Planned on keeping the deal to yourself??

      • -2

        Ive never posted a deal…
I'm not confident with the rules and new people get shit on hard when they stuff up

  • Paid this price for an ssd with half the speed a few days ago ahhhh, now I gotta buy this one too

  • +1

Shame it isn't an eBay Plus item.

    • @euk in the comments says he got a ebay plus discount.. I don't know how :)

    • I got 5% off with ebay plus in cart which almost cancelled out pccg shipping fee (also, why does probably the most popular pc store in the country have shipping fees when most other stores don't, or even a "free shipping over $99" offer?)

  • I am buying this for my PC. Anyone Think I should buy this for my Ps5? I am currently using a 4tb portable HDD for the PS4 games. I use disc games for ps5

    • buy two,one for PC and another for PS5. It should be the cheapest gen4 SSD per TB so far.

      • +1

Thanks, needed that push. Have added

Yeah they finally fixed their pricing a couple of months ago.

        Used to stupid as hell.

    • +1

Don't think I've ever paid more than $30 for shipping from PCCASEGEAR… even for a full system..

      VIC shipping

      • +2

sydney Used to be a solid 25+ for anything, I bought ram from them and it was 30$

  • Thinking of getting something like this and an enclosure. Is that a viable option or is there better bang for buck out there?

    • OOS by the time of this reply but don't bother with Gen4 drives in an enclosure, you'll top out below Gen3 speeds still. I use Kingston A2000 in the UGreen enclosures and they're excellent.

  • Thanks just got 2 from ebay with the 5% plus discount and cashrewards

    • Plus discount? I didn't know of that.

      • This is my code:

        Redemption code: PLUS5WR8P38JHB7MExpires 29/08/21

        • Hmm I’m plus and not working for me

        • +2

          Clearly, that will be unique.

    • What is the discount code?

      • This is my code:

        • Thanks but not working. May be 1 time use.

          • @User50301: Damn, must be targeted

            • @euk: None of the inclusions apply to this purchase. If you got it, then you're lucky. Should take a lotto

              • @samsal46: Got $30 off, so might reinvest it in a lotto ticket you're right!

        • I love how ebay even segregates their Plus members.. I only see $5 off $50 min spend vouchers lately, haven't seen a 5% off one for a while.

    • How do you get discount.

  • Thanks OP. Was waiting for 970 Evo 2tb to drop in price but this is better even in a gen 3 slot.

  • For those planning to use this in a PS5, don't forget a heatsink!

    • +1

      Any recommendations?

    • What heatsink addon do you recommend that keeps within the PS5 dimensions?

      • Sorry, I don't know of any off-hand as I haven't researched them yet.

I have a PS5, but I'm holding off picking up an SSD for the moment.

      • Be quiet! MC1

  • +1

$303.45 delivered from eBay. Noice OP!

    • Where's your location? To Sydney it's 16

      • +1

I could not get the 5% off eBay Plus items discount because it is not an eBay Plus item however I did get a discount by doing some steps.

Shipping was $16.00 but I got it cheaper because:
•Bought eBay gift cards through the ShopBack app for 3% off. First time I have bought gift cards through their app.
•Used ShopBack for 1% cashback on ebay.com.au (Cashrewards should work too).

        $316.00 x 0.97 = $306.52
        $306.52 x 0.99 = $303.45

I stuffed up that second calculation. I am not sure if the 1% cashback is done on the full amount including postage ($316.00), item amount excluding postage ($300.00), full amount including postage but excluding GST ($287.27) or the item amount excluding postage and GST ($272.27).

The end figure would be close enough.

        • Just did the same but used Suncorp rewards for the 3% off. And then used ShopBack for the purchase through eBay. Cheers!

    • How did you get delivery for $3.45?

    • +2

you're waiting for me to click "confirm and pay" before sharing how you got the cheap postage aren't you…

      • With 5% off it's $285 + 16 so should actually be $301 which is what I paid after ebay plus discount

        • I thought that was only for 'Plus' items, which I didn't think this one was.

Huh, might sign up for a single month for a fiver to do the same if that's the case.

          • @Stoibs: A few people commenting are Plus members and aren't getting any discount, so I just bit the bullet and bought on eBay via Cashrewards for hopefully 1% off. (Need to spend $$ on my AmEx card otherwise would have also purchased gift cards for an additional few percent off.)

I'm thinking those using 5% off coupon were recipients of an earlier targeted offer.

            • @WhippnNae: Fair enough, yeah I just went vanilla as a non member, still a great deal that I can't complain at even with $16 shipping. Just need to sort a heat sink now for the PS5 :)

    • How'd you get shipped for $3?

  • Argh shame this is double sided. Don't think it will fit my laptop.

    • How do double-sided M.2 SSDs work when a heatsink can only be attached to one side?

      • hmm will this fit the legion 7i ?? is there a way to find out ?

        • That's what I bought it for too lol. Guess I will find out the hard way.

          • @Guybrush57: did you do anything specific to be eligible for the 5% off discount code ?

            • @Jvin: I didn't use a 5% off code. I bought eGift cards for 3% off then checked out with ShopBack for a further 1% off. The 5% off eBay Plus code I had wouldn't work on the item as it is not an eBay Plus item.

  • Thanks. Had been looking at the NVMe for the whole week.

  • Tempted but not enough review not supporting me!!

    • +1

There are quite a few for 1tb, and it's pretty promising. For the price it's pretty insane.

  • Does this have DRAM?

    • +1

Yes, hence why this is a bargain.

You will not see prices for something like this again for another year with prices projected to go up unless there are other sporadic sales like this one.

  • +1

    Wow. A 2TB expansion for PS5 for $300!!!

I don’t even think the XSX 1TB expansion card has been this cheap.

  • +1

I bit the bullet for my PS5! Used Suncorp rewards to get 3% off eBay gift cards, brought it down to $306 and then went through ShopBack for another 1% off. Total price of approximately $303! Absolute bargain for a gen4 2TB ssd. Sure it’s just over min specs for the ps5 but I doubt you’ll notice much difference between it and say the SN850 with its 6500MB/s read speeds.

  • +1

This needs a heatsink for the PS5 right? Anyone know any good heatsinks that will fit in the ps5? Please recommend me any. Originally bought a Gigabyte Aorus 7000s 1tb for my ps5 but could get this instead and have the gigabyte returned.

  • the 5% off code must be targeted… most of us here with ebay plus dont have it !!
