When i was growing up we couldn't afford a kettle. we used a saucepan on the stove. does the job.

    • When I was growing up we couldn't afford a stove. We used a saucepan on the fire, does the job.

When I was growing up we couldn't afford a saucepan or a stove, we lit a fire in hole in road, waited, added water and drank from resulting puddle.

    • not as energy efficient though

1x stainless steel kenwood kettle $119 failed at 2 years. 2x stainless steel/glass kettle $89 each, first made it to 2.5 years the second just over 1 year. This $7.50 kettle has been going strong for almost 5 years.

Same for me and my toaster/kettle.

  • this makes a crap toasted sandwich if anyone is buying it for that reason…i learnt the hard way

I would hate to imagine if people are having it tough now… But in years down the track after drinking all that heated plastic water they find out they have a type of tumour / cancer….

  • Great everyday deal!

This will cause heath issue. Do not use plastic.

  • I bought this kettle second-hand for 4$ and then used it for another 4 years every day, boiling water at least 4 times a day and it then failed to turn on after ~6000 uses. Beware! Very disappointed! I was looking forward to passing it to my grandchildren.

  • I had one of these. Got a few years use out of it before it shat itself and started tripping my circuit breaker.

  • Has there been any scientific research on plastic kettle related to health issues?

Brought many expensive kettles in past only to sh*t themselves.

So one day I brought one of these (and yes with all my Ozbargain savings i could be a luxury kettle) and it does the job.

One did poop itself after 18 months but just went got another. Figure i can by 7 or so of these for the price of a good one.

    Makes sense to me….

  • Good kettle had one for over 2 years no problem

  • Basically if you boil it with too little water, insides start to melt and the coils will go black, which will then appear in water.
Risking you health buying this cheap kettle.

  • Spend a bit more and get this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/642323

  • The heating element coil is positioned within the water reservoir (not behind a plate like most kettles). As such the heating element rusts. I've used this kettle for about 9 months. You're better off spending a little more on a kettle if you plan on using the kettle regularly.

  • Thanks OP, also for the toaster price. Every little bit helps.

I can't believe the whole thread no one has said it looks like junk and I'd be embarrassed having this around the house .

  • I bought a plastic kettle once, took about 6 months till the boiled water stopped tasting like plastic. Spend $20 and get a metal one.
