    Green Smoothie Mix

    YUCK !!!

  • +23

    Packed in Canada.

    Grown in China?

    • +15

Imagine if it is; grown in China, shipped to Canada, shipped to Australia, shipped around Australia….

      • +1

grown in China……shipped to Australia, shipped around Australia

That's the exact same way how the virus was spread lol

        • +1

          You missed a step.

it was shipped to USA, then shipped to Australia.

          • +4

@ATangk: Put joking aside, the first official case in Aust was actually directly imported from Wuhan, China

            Date published: 25 January 2020
The first case of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has been confirmed by Victoria Health Authorities this morning.
The patient, a man from Wuhan, flew to Melbourne from Guandong on 19 January.

            https://www.health.gov.au/ministers/the-hon-greg-hunt-mp/med...

            • @TanedaR: Whilst that was true, the 'outbreak' did not occur from Jan/Feb, only starting after March. Hence, the one shipped to Australia did not get shipped 'around' Australia.

      • +2

Not as if coles is Australian to begin with. Mexican grown (allegedly), packed in Canada, sold in Australia by a British-American company.

        • +6

I think you'll find Coles is a 100% Australian company headquartered in Melbourne. While some of the shareholders are US or UK, it is still an Australian company, and always has been….. :-)

      • +2

        Andddddddddddddd still making a profit!!

        • wonder if they pay taxes ;)

    • +2

      Grown in Mexico

    • Sounds like Huawei.

  • +3

That seems crazy; $2 for an item that is packed in Canada and shipped here, when similar ingredients could be sourced from here.

    • +20

It's also cheaper to buy German beer than the local product

      • +6

Like 1L sunflower oil is cheaper than 1kg sunflower seeds

    • +15

Our labour component is the problem.
      Not materials.

I worked for a furniture manufacturer, we get the pine from New Zealand, ship it to Vietnam, make the furniture, ship it to Australia.
That was still 50% cheaper than making it here.

      • +1

That doesn't explain why CUB products taste the way they do

      • +1

To an extent, that's true, but when thinking of packing frozen fruit, Canada doesn't come to mind as a cheap place for labour.

Is there some Aus-Can trade quota that this fulfils?

        • yeah I saw cheese from the UK from coles cheaper than here

    • +1

A litre of petrol dug up in Iraq, shipped in a tanker to Singapore, refined there and then shipped again here and sold at a petrol station is the same price as a litre of milk produced 10 km from me….

      • +2

yeah that's called economies of scale. To dig up a single litres worth of petrol and do all that would cost hundreds of millions of dollars. do that for billions of litres and the cost comes down.

  • +2

    Has anyone tried this?
    Is it any good?

    • +4

Actually surprisingly good, been having these for a while, healthy and even more so if you add too it

      • Agreed! These are pretty good but sometimes it's hard to find these smoothie packs in stock 😅

      • -1

8.7g sugar, I wouldnt call it healthy

        • +4

Wait until you hear how much sugar is in an apple!

  • +1

ive never seen this at coles before, but keen to try it out

  • +3

Don't tell me where it's grown, I shalt not buy.

    • +2

      Grown in Mexico

      • +13

Not grown in Australia, I shalt not buy.

        • +3

You must be very hungry 😀

          • @corky: Why? It isn’t hard to buy Australian made products

  • +9

How about just buy QLD Mangoes, NZ Kiwis, and Australian Spinach & Kale and mix it by yourself instead

    • +6

      For less than $4/kg?

    • +2

This product is not designed for people that want to spend extra time preparing and money on food. QLD mangos and NZ Kiwi fruit are not in season now.

    • +1

The NZ kiwis would be grown in China. If it's repackaged in NZ then it can be called Made in NZ.

      • Kiwi fruit interestingly enough is a chinese fruit, its not actually native to new zealand.

        • +3

I am a kiwi and I just remembered them being called chinese gooseberry. I think this is an old memory

      • There are multitudes of Kiwi Fruit orchards in NZ.
"Kiwifruit continues to be New Zealand's largest single horticultural export by volume and value. Exports exceeded $2.5 billion in 2020"

        • Of course there is. But there's also a massive loophole in how to make something made in China not be shown as being made in China.

          • @Clear: Of course, but probably not China
"New Zealand began importing kiwifruit in 1998 to supplement local produce. Today, even signature New Zealand brands such as gold kiwifruit are grown in Lazio, Italy. The vast majority of fruit from New Zealand's 140 million vines heads overseas."

            • @GG57: But the loophole still exists.

  • +1

I just got a Magic Bullet

    • -4

      Ok Mr. Oswald…

      • +1

        lol so many negs

            • +1

              @Gimli:

              What about you?

Dunno, I don't really care about them. They don't do anything.

              • @jv:

I don't really care about them.

                I figured.
That's why i use my 5 daily negs on you because I thought it won't hurt your feeling unlike other people who seem to care alot

                • +2

@Gimli: Why are you restricted to 5? I get 10…

                  • @jv: i don't have premium :(

    • I prefer a magic loogie.

    • How's it compared to Nutribullet?

  • +4
    • Knew that was coming, Woolies had upped all theirs to $5. Must be a 'down down' campaign around the corner, so they can make a big deal out of putting the price back to where it was.

  • +2

Can the net weight or volume please be added to the title and or description?

  • +2

This is really good with coconut water or almond milk and a banana :)

  • +1

Seemingly not available in Qld. Doesn't show up in the Coles app anyway.

    • Same in Sydney

  • Does the large bag contain smaller bags, or just loose within?

  • Good post OP. Keen to try it. Will make a difference from celery juice every morning for sure.

    • +13

If you can drink celery juice, you can drink anything lol

  • Product Not available

  • i wonder when does the special finish? tonight?

  • +1

I can't find it in SA

  • +3

Is hep A in frozen fruits still a concern? I’ve only been using imported frozen berries etc in baking, or heated. I have a local supplier for Australian frozen fruits or buy fresh. Great combo and price but I’m not sure I’d take the risk for smoothies.

    • Good question… Anyone know?

      • I third this question.

      • +4

So did a little web search and noticed this https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/public-healt...
Looks like there’s been a hep a outbreak in Canada from frozen mangoes recently - this product is packed in Canada, makes a lot of sense that it was on sale.

        • +1

Genuinely shocked :o. Thanks for the info

        • am sad you didn't reply to me :( i wasn't notified & bought 2 packs

          • +1

@capslock janitor: Oh no! Sorry, it’s sometimes a shame there’s no tag function. You probably won’t get hep A. You could bake it into muffins or something if you’re worried.

  • Are mango's that much cheaper than Spinach and Kale and Kiwi's? Would have been nicer if the ratio was more towards the greener side so there's less sugar.

  • +3

Ahh, Canada. That great country that is really well known for it's production of Mangoes and Kiwi Fruit

  • PICKED UP 2 PACKS

"PACKED IN CANADA. FRUIT/VEGIES FROM NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA"
    "
    MANGO: PRODUCT OF MEXICO
    KIWI: PRODUCT OF CHILE
    SPINCH, KALE: PRODUCT OF ECUADOR
    "
    PLZ UPDATE DESC.

    • +1

So glad we are doing our bit to help out the economies of the Americas

  • This did not even taste nice.
