ASUS Chromebook C523 15.6" Celeron N3350 CPU, 8GB RAM, 64GB $398 + Post ($0 to Select Areas) @ JB Hi-Fi / Delivered @ Amazon AU

First time posting, please be nice.

I was looking for a Chromebook (pulled a trigger on a Duet recently) but this seems to be much better deal if your main use is a desktop. The 8GB really stands out to me.

Also available on Amazon.

Am I missing anything? It seems incredible to have 8GB ram for under <$400 even if it is using a Celeron processor. The Flex 5 is double the price for the i5 with the same RAM.

  • This is actually An OK deal. Woulda preferred a duet for the price point but still an ok deal.

  • from memory, this has a rather dim display with low color space coverage

otherwise would be a fun machine to run Lightroom (android version)

I haven't tried this particular model but these 5 year old Celeron's are so slow.

    • Well you won't be doing too much on a Chromebook anyway. If it helps keep the prices low, ASUS or any other manufacturer will keep using them (there's no point in putting in a high end chipset into something that will mostly be used for browsing the web).

      • The MediaTeks are better in other Chromebooks. Not high end.

  • Seems like a good find for an 8GB chromebook.

Worthwhile mentioning this appears to be the 1920x1080 (Full HD) model. If this is a 'work anywhere' device, others might beat it for display output, but on a desk it would be pretty handy.

  • Amazon also have a Lenovo 14 inch FHD IPS chromebook with only 4gb of RAM, 64GB storage but a N4020.

    For $330.

Personally, I would get the Lenovo.

  • Better off spending a bit more?

  • If it could run a light Linux, might be nice.
