Don't forget to use cashback gift cards for 3 more percent off (@ Shopback).

Personal disclaimer: Some XM3s, from what I've heard, have an issue of 'waterfall' or 'buzzing' noise in the earcup, and, since these 'seconds' are likely store returns, there is a slightly higher chance of a faulty device that (unintentionally or not) slipped by Sony's 'technician' check. (Just my little PSA.)

  • Some XM3s, from what I've heard, have an issue of 'waterfall' or 'buzzing' noise in the earcup

I think you meant, XM4… particularly the side with the new sensor.

Got that issue with scratch and dent XM3s we got from Costco. Sent them, under warranty, to Sony and they gave us a brand new pair as a replacement. The new pair were fine. However, we did have to argue that the buzzing noise wasn’t “standard” because our other pair of XM3s didn’t have the issue. This does appear to be a known fault.

      • Oh wow, I didn’t know, my blindspot. I got XM3s and thought it was only XM4 sensor gate problem. Thanks for the insight.

        • No probs. When we had the issue we did a bit of googling and there were a few posts where people, also, had the issue. Gave us some ammunition to go back to Sony with. We kept the accessories from the first headphones, because we figured they would repair them, so we have extra cables. Bonus.

I had that issue with my first set of XM3 as well. Took it back to JB and they swapped for new under warranty, they were about 6 months old at the time. Definetly a known issue, but the replacement set has been flawless.

another way to look at it is, refub units gets QC twice, althought the first QC missed something out, but certainly most function are fine and checked twice, with the second QC focused on the issue.

personally never had any problem buying from sony australia xD. maybe I am just being lucky.

I have also bought the XM3 refurbished from Sony.. no complaints looks and works perfectly fine

  • xm3 owner, still like it, sold my xm4.

    • how do you feel about SQ and ANC between both?

obviously would like the superior in both at the expense of everything else

      • You don’t buy xm3/xm4 for the sound quality. They are quite good for the mid range ANC cans. Depends what music and what signature you like.

        • What do you buy them for then?

          • @dogsryummy: Great office cans for ANC.

          • @dogsryummy: Get a HD600 or HD600 and a decent headphone amp, this is for sound quality, mine has been perfect for almost 10 years.

          • @dogsryummy: Excellent for office work with the ANC, sound is decent compared to most bluetooth cans around that price and a bit higher. Comfy, good battery life.

          Why is this comment downvoted?
          100% the truth

        • Sound quality is pretty good. These are just about the only pair compatible with Sony’s own high res LDAC codec.

          • @fuzor: Really doesn’t mean too much, given the target of these headphones. No one who owns them actually checks to see if they can even reproduce hi def audio, especially when ANC is on hey.

the problem i fear is that youre gonna get in this retarded game of buying refurbs and 2nds and they come ootb faulty and then you return the shit and they send you another pile of faulty sony shit

this game of post office pass the parcel gets old

    • I don't know why you got negged. This has happened to myself and several people I know buying factory seconds. Most of the time is fine but the few times this does happen it's infuriating.

  • +2

For that price better go for Bose QC 35 II new

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/645363

    • It Bose QC 35 available? I would like to buy that, seems sold out.

      • +2

        yes oos

The best at the moment is this, $262.65 with afterpay code

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/164752245286?var=464239878774

Or this opened never use $220.50, didn't work with afterpay code

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/353443173414?var=622644971433

        • Does anyone have any experience buying opened never used? Are there many risks? The warranty is only 90 days.

          • @jesho: don't belive the "never used" BS, they just either returned products or display products.
its ok for the change of mind returns but don't buy those display ones,
the condition looks ok but its been powered on for months or even years 24/7.
it just same as high-mileage second hand cars with new paint, you really should avoid those.

Hi, just wondering does it come with 3.5mm connectivity for lag free audio? Im think about buying this to replace my gaming headset.

    • +1

My refurb xm4 did. It can be a bit funny connecting it purely with bluetooth to the pc.

      • +1

        thank you

      • Mine's just straight up stuck incorrectly paired to my motherboard's Bluetooth.

    • Yessir

      • cheers

        • Might need to turn off ANC for it to be completely lag free

    • I bought a pair of Sony Xm4's thinking they would replace my M50x for gaming. They don't for me. It's mainly the passive sound isolation is too great, and the long term comfort just isn't there. Sound quality is about the same. I bought mine off ebay as Sony Seconds. zero issues. they looked perfectly brand new. They had all the accessories. 3.5mm cable, usb c cable and case. Just can't recommend them for gaming IMO.

    • I use my XM3s with a longer 3.5mm cable that includes a boom mic. Works perfectly, with no lag. Alternatively, a USB mic on your desk will work too.

  • I can see the ability to pay off all your payments straight away.
Are there any negatives to doing so?

    • +1

      You'll unlock a medal

    • Pay me I'll help you. Jk - you definitely can and from a price protection card point of view it looks like the entire transaction was finalised on day of purchase.

Bought both XM3 & QC II 35 brandnew when they were on sale.
XM3 has buzzer sound on the right earcup after a few months. Noticable after turning on for 30 mins or more and when listening to lecturer. Hard to notice if listening to music. Sent to Sony to repair but they said they could not see any issue. However I like to the XM3 because of its deep/powerfull bass.
Sold my QC II 35 because it produces less bass then XM3. QC II 35 is solid but if someone looking for bass, better go for XM3/XM4.

    • +2

Our XM3s had the buzzing sound, as well, and we told Sony it wasn’t “standard” because our other XM3s didn’t make the noise. They gave us a brand new pair, under warranty, that didn’t have the issue. You need to pressure them to get the replacement.

Got one in March, first unit was defective…messaged back and forth and got another one just for the second one to be defective too. Both units had subpar noise cancelling. Returning after buying at march next week. Not a good experience at all.

  • +1

For everyone who has had a waterfall sound, it's because of condensation inside the cups. It seems to happen most frequently during winter.

It happened to a few people such as myself on the WH-1000XM3, apparently XM4's are even more prone. The issue has been mentioned before in Reddit, but Sony does not give a shit because it's a small percentage of customer base.

I did find a remedy for it though. Get a thick, absorbent clean cloth (Woolies should have them), open the earcups and cut a piece to size to fit inside. That should absorb any moisture build up and prevent the noise.

Long term, buy another brand because Sony aftercare is atrocious.

    • +2

maybe a pack of "do not eat" would do the trick

    • Is it the actual sound of water or just interference?

  • +1

    XM4s out of stock :(

    Must have been ozbargained!

    • +1

So they have. I've updated the post. Though, keep your fingers crossed, as they might restock again tomorrow.

      • Hope they do!!

  • can you make a full payment to "Afterpay" instead of making 4 payments ?

    • you can immediately pay all of them right after your first payment. (been using AP for couple month now)

      • Also can pay by eBay gift cards and left a bit behind with afterpay.

      • doesnt void the promo does it?

      • do they accept paypal payments?

        • do they accept paypal payments?

I think no, you have to select the "Afterpay" option during check out to use the coupon code, so you can only apply gift cards code on top.

  • what's OOS?

    • +1

      OOS="Out of St0ck"

    • +1

The earphones. The earphones are OOS

Just a note that WF-1000XM3 'refurbished units' were $127 (before any discounts) a few weeks earlier .. so it seems that they have jacked up the price to $158. So it possibly 'could have' been $107.95, instead of the current 134.30, which hits a bit different. Still a good price if you need ANC earphones, but just thought I'd share.

    • price-jacking is nothing new here.

  • I often see Sony selling these headphones in the second condition. Are they actually ok? Or it's more likely to have an issue with these orders then you end up wasting time on claiming the warranty. Thanks

  • Thanks! I’ve been waiting for a discount on the xm3. Just got one, let’s see how they work in a few days.
