Can't wait to get these used for dirt cheap from failed streamers.

    • +8

And then you will do the same for someone else.

Except I wouldn't be using this for streaming?

        • Same. I've got one of these to play my Nintendo Switch and PS5 games on my PC.

I bought it second hand of course… possibly from a failed streamer ;)

@frankfu1122: Huh? Why not just plug you them directly into your monitor?

            • @PainToad: I'm wondering about this too…

            • -2

@PainToad: Good question. I've got a setup so that I can easily switch (via a KVM switch) between 4 modes - PS5 to PC, Switch to PC and PS5 to monitor, and Switch to monitor.

The first 2 modes I use when I'm predominately working but want to sneak in a quick game (10-20 mins) and then when I want to commit to a decent gaming session (say 2hours +) then I use the latter 2 modes.

Now you might ask, why don't I just play on PC? The answer is I do that too ;)

    • Then you'll fail and sell to someone else. Thus repeats the cycle.

        someone else's joke, but louder

        • Ahh, so it's only a joke when you say it. got it.

      Username checks out.

  • I thought about getting one of these off FB Marketplace. In case anyone wants to know, the lower end of the going rate (At least in VIC post negotiating) appears to be between $110 - $130 which ain't too bad bad.

  • Lots of fake reviews according to Fakespot. "Our engine has analyzed and discovered that 78.2% of the reviews are reliable."

I would question anything that has reviews in the thousands on Amazon going forward.

  • Bought HD60S (non plus) from FB marketplace for $30.

Then bought 4K60S+, never looked back.

    • Can you explain the difference in the experience? I'm looking to get a device for hobby, I don't need more than 1080p for sure.

I have these as well and they're just too convenient. You definitely pay for it though. It doesn't need a pc to record, so it's very convenient to capture off the back of a splitter while you're playing in the lounge for example. Even if you do use the pc to record, it will do the encoding on the device itself, so it's less work for your gpu. Especially if you want to combine multiple hdmi sources. GPUs only have limited encoders so these mean you don't have to buy bonkers GPUs just cos they have multiple encoders. If you're doing this for a hobby. Stick to low end until you need higher. Or else wait for black friday sales on 4k60s+

Correction, my old one is HD60 (non S/S+) only.

        HD60 - mini USB 2.0
        HD60 S - USB C
        HD60 S+ - USB C

        Either HD60 / S / S+ should do the job for you.
The HDR passthrough on S+ would be great for local recording, not so much for streaming. Also S+ uses their latest app (strictly Win10).
If you can find 2nd hand HD60 dirt cheap under $50, get it!

        S/S+ Differences

With 4K60S+ you can record straight onto SDcard, without the need of a PC & ofc it can record in 4K 60 fps. Cannot use SDcard if USB connection is present. HDMI connection can be fiddly if you leave it idle for too long.

And there is also PCIe type

        • I had a poor experience with pcie when I was capturing multiple inputs. Interestingly, I just had no sound at all on the second one. Would recommend 4k60s+ anyways as it's a lot less finicky, and you still need a powerful pc to use the pcie type, and it might end up sharing bandwidth with your gpu. ymmv

If you just want to dabble in this type of thing and want to try on a budget, I bought cheap HDMI USB capture cards for under $20. These are available from ebay or Amazon. Doesn't do 4k60 but for some 1080 30fps is good enough.

    • (can it do 720p60?)
how to step up to 1080p60?

  • For anyone planning to get one new, JB HI-FI will price match (source: me). Save yourself the wait time from the UK, not that Auspost will get it to you much sooner. Or you can Click and Collect from your local store.

Also, for anyone who has one, do you know if you can use an AV to HDMI converter then feed it through to PC? Asking because my PS2 has been sitting on the shelf for too long.

  • Great device. I use mine to get a clean feed from a DSLR into OBS studio for composing videos on the fly. Greatly reduces editing time after filming.
