nbn 250/25 Elite Mates Home Superfast Plan $99 Per Month (FTTP and HFC Only) @ MATE

1223

Just stumbled across this. Was part of their 6 month discount promo but noticed it has now reduced from $109 per month to $99 per month. By comparison looking at ABB they offer 100/20 for $99 per month and Mate still offer the static IP and Aussie call centre. Pretty great deal

FTTP and HFC Only.

  • This or superloop better?

It really depends on the location. You won't know until you try it. I know someone that got poor performance on SL and its been fine since moving to Mate. The problem is, I can recommend them of that as someone else might find the opposite.

      • I’m that person! Well I had a bit of a nightmare. About 18 months ago my Telstra offer was up. So initially I moved to Kogan and it was awful. Then SL And it was so bad. I would call and wait for 1 hour to be told to just restart the modem. I did that twice and kept service for a couple of months. In the end I couldn’t bear it anymore. So I moved to Mate. Same problem again, I jumped online and after 5 minutes chat they booked Nbn to come and have a look. The nbn technicians came out twice. Apparently the cables that connected my nbn into the house were 30 years old (old cable). Since then no more problems. My service goes via Vocus and since it was fixed no problems. There are 4 of us working, studying and watching 4K streaming. No problem whatsoever

  • Has been with mates for just over a month. Generally pretty good, except for the peak hours (8pm - 10pm).
It's quite interesting that during those hours, the speedtest.net speed is still at 250Mbps, however, the youtube connection speed is kind of limited.

During normal hours, watching a 4k youtube video would show 100~200kbps connection speed (shown by nerd mode), but during peak hours, the connection speed to many videos are limited to 5k~10k kbps. This makes watching 4k youtube videos unbearable, and 1080p video occasionally buffers for few seconds.

I was planning to move to superloop on my second month, but forgot about my billing date.. Just received my second billing statement, and they won't provide refund once a bill has been issued. So I'm stuck with them for an extra month.

If you're on your first month with them, and experience this issue, maybe you can consider cancel the plan: Cancel during first month for unsatisfied quality gives full refund (I only knew this after I receive my second month bill, darn)

    • lol. this is main reason why I churned out. some shady shit going on

  • They are the best provider. Been with them for NBN and mobile using Telstras network. Flawless.

  • Currently with mate but thinking of moving away and looking for a better ISP. I'm having multiple dropouts lately especially during peak hours. So annoying when it happens as my all thin client connections gets disconnected and I need to login again to get back in.

  • We were with Mate for FTTP (250/25) a few months ago - speeds were OK but I found that it constantly lagged for watching Live YouTube/Twitch streams for 7:30pm onwards and any overseas MMOs. Messaged their support over this about potential routing issues and they said there's nothing wrong with it.

Churned away to Superloop who I had been with before and the connection is fantastic.

  • I know TPG offer existing customer only $89.99 on 250mbps plan

  • Mate is my go-to ISP to take advantage of the discounted offers from ABB and Superloop. Overall good ISP, speeds are OK (FTTP) and I do get the evening congestion as well.
Can definitely notice the difference between Mate and ABB / Superloop.

  • Was with mate, got my (only mate nbn in my building of 30ish apartments) internet down for around 12 hours during work hours. Spent 1 hr trying to contact customer care who dint know what happened. Then received a message for unplanned disruption. In the evening i applied for TPG. Next morning my nbn was switched and its all good ever since.

  • I was a customer of mate provider. Despite service is good, looks like they try to save on equipment. Every evening there is huge latency, and this latency started to happen inside their network!
If you just watch movies and surfing the internet - that's probably will be ok.
For gaming experience, any other activities sensetive to latency it's just fail.

    I would not recommend them.

  • I've been with Mate for just over 2 months (250/25 HFC) with no issues at all.

Usually get around 260/23. Peak hours it can drop a little, but not by much.

Haven't had to deal with their customer service too much yet, but they seem friendly and helpful.

  • I might give them a go when I move next month. If anyone wants their referral bonus from me, happy to.

You have that one month up free so nothing to lose. Just a FYI people aren't able to send PM's to you to your Ozb account. I'd be happy to pass on my details if you PM myself, otherwise use the referral link at the top to get a referral. :)

      • I see, no problem, I will DM you when time comes and we will go from there. Cheers.

  • Anyone has the same experience. I just sign up with them on their 250/25 plan. The speed test shows good result, but the actual speed is much much slower. I was with Telstra 100/40. I can download bit torrent for 8MB/s, here I can only have maximum 2MB/s. Which bring me back to ADSL+.. Considering switch back or some other ISP.

Vocus r known to limit torrent traffic

      • +1

It's Vocus. Has to port out. Thanks for the info

        • SL/ABB/Launtel ;)

      • Not if you change the port surely?

        • what do you mean?

          • @ozmaxz: The port for the torrent application. Some ISP's throttle the common torrent ports (6881-6889). If you change the port to something I believe over 50,000+ you don't get those kinds of issues.

  • So my place uses HFC I am with optus at 25/10 for $89 and want to switch to someone with way better speeds. I'm thinking of MATE or AussieBB or superloop but everyones saying different things?

    Any opinions?

  • Do these referral bonuses work the same way as the Tangerine ones (The referee and recipient received $25 each to start with) or how often are people getting a $50 credit from referrals on here?

I assume it would be taken from the first month's bill (realise the first month trial is free if you don't stay)?

Not really a fan of vocus but could test it out. Just wanted to check how it works with the cashback as well (20%)

    cheers,
