  • As someone who doesn't like fantasy, turn-based RPGs or multiplayer games, is this still worth picking up?

    • +1

I haven't played it yet and just bought it myself. But I have attached the metacritic link. They all state it's amazing.
Also watch some YouTube vids and see if you might like it.

This is literally the cream of the crop of turn based games.
If you can't get into this, you'll never get into other turn based rpgs.

Worth the $28 to find out.

    • +1

It is the best of everything you hate.

      Multiplayer, turn-based, rpg fantasy.

But if you never liked this genre, divinity 2 might be the only game able to change your mind.

I say it's a buy, even if you don't usually like these sorts of games.

    • +1

      No in your case.

One of the best RPGs of the last few years. Shocked me how much better it was than the first game. I recommend to play as one of the pre set characters rather than make a custom one, as there are a heap of unique quests and dialogue for each.

    Red Prince FTW.

I've tried start playing this game multiple times, but always can't get pass the first hour.

Game these days are so complicated, takes alot of time, effort and patient to learn and get into.

As a middle age man with young kids, I sitll want to have the passion for gaming, bought alot of games, own all consoles, most games never started, for the ones started can't get pass the first 10 mins and loses interest and patience

Anyone had the same problem?? know how to fix this?

    • Are you on PS4/5? Play God of War 2018 if you haven't.

      • Yeah, took me quite a while to get through the first boss fight, I'll try give it another go

      Try different genres.

In recent years, I've had more fun playing games like Slay the Spire than most AAA titles.

      • Couldn't agree more.

Quick run of slay the spire or grinding for 2-3 stars in Mario? I know which I kept choosing

    • There is nothing to fix. It's a game that can be played over the course of 12 months if that's how long it takes. What's the rush?

How do I know this? I'm in the exact same situation as you :)

    • you are probably liked me…..I used to play D2 for hours and enjoy it so much. These days games are so complicated, or maybe our hand is getting less flexible :), have you tried Witcher 3? I love it….

      • Also tried Witcher 3 a few runs, one time think I got to around 10 hours, when the PS5 version comes out this year, I'm going to give it another go

    • I sympathise with your plight.

I marvel at this games’ complexity, the intricacies of its systems but felt overwhelmed in the few hours I spent with it. It just wasn’t for me.

Not sure what your go to genre is, but if have any interest in JRPG fantasies - ‘Tales of Arise’ could be a winner.
It is to release in early September with a Demo available now on your digital store of choice between Xbox or PSN. It’s getting a lot of buzz right now. Might be worth a shot.

      • Thanks, I'm planning to get that, I still got FF7 remake, Xenoblades 1&2 that I haven't finished

The last game I can remember was able to finish was The last of us 2 and Persona 5

    • Thanks for letting me know. I also get overwhelmed.
Even ghosts of tsushima has too many combos to remember to switch styles and switch secondary weapon.. I still love it because it was beautiful but just loved it.
Sometimes if the game is beautiful or really interesting I persevere. If i don't get grabbed early on. I will dump it.
I'm around the same age and have the same concerns.

I just thought about it. Have you tried to play this with someone. Maybe the push of playing with friends will help you get past the first hour as you are with mates

    • @wswgin Don't stop! I was the same after an hour or so. I felt a little lost and wasn't sure about turn based combat. I almost stopped but luckily looked up some character guides and beginner hints on youtube that helped immensely (fextralife and some others that I forget their names now sorry).

The first 1-4 levels are probably the most difficult when you first start playing DoS2.

I'm tried again and so glad I did as it is an amazing game and I'm now at 182 hours played. The story is incredible with a level of detail and humour that is missing in so many games now days. Combat is challenging during the first play through but I liked that. DoS2 is one of the most enjoyable game I've played in the last 5-10 years.

A couple of tips (without spoilers):

      1) Don't stress about your stat points too much as you can re-distribute them freely later.
      2) Quick save (F5 on pc) before and during combat when you first start so you can go back to multiple save points. You will die a bit as you learn combat and abilities.
      3) Learn how physical and magical armor work and CC abilities.
      4) Talk to the animals … so many funny lines. (you need the Pet Pal ability or you can turn it on as part of the Definitive Edition features without needing a skill point)
      5) As someone mentioned play as the one of the original characters as they add to the storyline.

I'm replaying the game again atm as a "Lone Wolf" single character and still having fun and finding a lot of little things I missed the first time through.

Try and stick it out during the initial few hours and hopefully you will enjoy the game.

      • Thanks, I'll give it another go sometime, I really want to like this game and I know how good it is, I had great memories playing Baldur's gate 1&2 many years ago.

I got the pc, Switch and ios version, it just seems need to put in alot of effort to learn how to play, working is already so tireing, gaming was supposed to be relaxed, now it feels like more stress than work lol

        • Yeah I can relate. Exactly why I nearly stopped after an hour or two. But after the first couple of hours of learning the game that all went away and it was a blast. Good luck.

Dont try Escape from Tarkov if you want to relax and avoid stress :) that's my other go to game for the last year or so.

  • Aw I got excited that this was for pc. I've been waiting a month for it to be on sale - keen to play, but seeing how often it has gone on sale in the past means I can't bring myself to pay full price.
