Moved to Forum: Original Link

Mod Note: Price Error Email from JB Hi-Fi. Orders has been cancelled and refunded.

This works out to $22.5/TB, surely that's some insane record low for drive prices, even if it is something whack like an 2x8tb inside.

Tried looking for what drives are inside it couldn't find it, anyone got an idea?

$30 Cashback with Zip pay

        We know how that goes.

  • Thanks bought two! Need the go-faster RGB LED lighting for maximum performance.

  • Woohoo thanks (Fingers crossed!)

  • Got one.

  • Ordered using zip, I didn't realise I needed this until I saw the deal. Thanks OP. πŸ€“

  • +1

thanks bought two, $200 gift cards plus zip pay. will setup a NAS if delivered.

    • Could this be used as a media nas, say drop from pc then accessed through a tv?

      • +1

Will shuck it, it may be Seagate Exos HDD based on above comments.
And if accessible from TV depends on what NAS server/TV support.
May google your TV model and see which NAS server supported.

        • I've got the LG 65" C1 and I can run plex on it so I'm hoping so if not it'll be accessible via usb to media player

        • Is EXOS better than iron wolf?

          • @Homr: Yes, exos is enterprise level. But it's a lottery, i lost mine last time for a 6tb expension deal. someone got exos 6tb but my one was barracuda pro, but it was still Way cheaper than buying barracuda pro.

      • yep for sure - I run a USB drive off an Nvida Shield that runs my plex server.

    • Gonna be a complicated refund when they cancel. Price error, no stock and on backorder. :/

      • never get issue from JBHIFI refund, would be still gift cards and free $30 from ZIP

        • Yeah zip typically let u keep the credit after a refund. So at least you will get a $30 consolation prize.

    • Good thing is if you used a gift card you might actually get to cash it out as they cannot process a refund to you via the original cards if you claim you threw it away. Alternatively they may give you a new gift card but at least that will have a reset expiry date.

      • Or store credit. As a gift card = store credit

      • JB gift cards don't expire currently

  • No power cable needed?

    • +2

it most definitely need a power cable lol.

      • Key Features

USB bus-powered for quick function and less clutter

        • +1
          • @lawyerz: In theory Type-C can provide power to run this drive, but I never seen it implemented anywhere.

            • @[Deactivated]: yeah i dont understand why not. …

            • @[Deactivated]: Seagate had an 8tb usb-c drive what must have been half a decade ago, it was pulled within 12 months, I guess because people were trying and failing to power it off laptops and desktops that just couldn't power it. The world at that time was not ready.

  • +3

grabbed one and money has come out the account and order has appeared in the shop app, so fingers crossed it goes through.
file explorer has a few too many red bars showing atm for my liking lol.

ozbargain spirit, bought first and worry later

    • +10

It's about the most excitement we get these days while locked down.

  • +1

Backorder only. No stock. Appears to be unlimited stock. Can order in batches of x5.

  • +2

Can't have too many backups for those uhh linux distro's..

    • +15

"linux distros"… also next to "homework" and "new folder" and "new folder (1)" right

      ( Ν‘Β° ΝœΚ– Ν‘Β°)

      • +1

Or "_If I'm Dead, Delete Me". Underscore to have it up top when sorted alphabetically

        • No need for the underscore when all other directories are subdirs within it

  • +1

Bought 2 and received a confirmation email.

  • +3

    JB you've done it again!

  • do most mobos support 16tb drives?

    • I think most anything made with sata will. I can tell you for certain that my two ryzen b450 boards do. I believe it is more a software issue than hardware. GPT partitioning will be required but shouldn't be an issue if you're on Windows 7 or later.

  • Just ordered four of the buggers for the new NAS I'm building. I can wait six weeks for this good of a deal. Provided JB haven't made an error and then cancel/refund it.

    • +1

At that price - definately worth rolling the dice! if they plan on cancelling the order it is likely to be this week.

Good Luck - I wish I had been able to set up my QNAP on this deal!

    • +1

yep me too, got to be in it to win it. worst case a get my money back and maybe a gift card.

  • +1

Ordered one as well. Appears in Shop app. Good luck to myself :)

  • So what are the odds that orders will be cancelled lol

  • +1

    Thanks bought 4

  • With the RGB it is faster than SSD

    • +9

RGB jokes are so old and lame

        • +14

          That too.

  • +1

Well worth a shot ordered one

  • Great deal thanks

  • this or a 16000 GB version ? πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

  • Didn't need it, bought one anyway

  • Why not

  • +6

    Thanks +1, bought 1
Didn't even bother researching price, just skimmed the 50 msgs exclaiming how cheap

  • +1

Damn saw this late. Bought two with zip.

I have a feeling what’s inside are 2 x 8TB laptop drives (2.5” form factor). The reason? Check the description, it’s powered by USB and no power adaptor. Typical 3.5” HDDs need a 12V dedicated source via a power adaptor or a PSU.

    • +5

There's no 8TB 2.5" drives on this planet, also it comes with power supply.

        • No, that's an SSD, and not relevant to this discussion about mechanical drives.

          • +2

@Nom: He said "There's no 8TB 2.5" drives on this planet"

        • +3

What are you trying to say, that there could be 2x8TB SSDs inside?

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: That would be the bargain of the decade 😁😁😁

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Sign me up for 100 of them, jim!

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: You literally said "There's no 8TB 2.5" drives on this planet"

Replied with that link in case you actually didn't think there were.

            • @MiscOzB: He's talking about mechanical drives, which we all understood πŸ‘

            • @MiscOzB: There's no 8TB 2.5" HDDs on this planet

Now go buy yourself a donut and do a happy dance, you just proved context lives matter.

            • +1

@MiscOzB: But you also replied without the context of the question in mind.

    • +2

Laptop drives max out at 5TB, so it's definately a 3.5" drive(s) πŸ‘

      • +1

If they were 8TB 2.5 in HDD (which they are not), I'd be even happier with the purchase, then they can straight into my 2.5 in SAS bays.

    • Just checked again direct from Seagate. It is powered by a power adaptor- so there goes my 2.5” theory. Would be interested to see what drive is inside.

  • Paid using zip.
Do we pay off zip straight away now? Or wait for the refund?
How many days do we have to pay of zip before getting hit with a fee?

      • +1

their website is super confusing explaining how it works, i had to google it. basically no fees if paid within 60 days, otherwise a $6 account fee per month applies

        • +1

Thank you. Yes Zip website is not easy to understand.
No need to pay it off immediately, let it wait for refund.

        • As a ZIP shareholder please feel free to ignore any messages about paying anything. :-)

  • +1

Anyone have the balls to say swap Prezzee GCs for JB GCs to effectively get this at 10% off?

Because if JB cancel the order and refund you in JB GC, then you're stuck looking for sth else to buy.

    • +1

I thought about it, and decided against it lol

  • can you turn off the rgb?

  • This is obviously a price error, not gonna waste my time.

    • +3

      in the spirit of ozbargain
It's better to have bargained and refunded than to have never bargained at all

      • Haha very true

  • +2

    gone. game over

  • +2

    Out of stock
The below item(s) are no longer available since you were last here. Your cart has been updated.

Missed out by 1 minute just because I had to reset jb hifi account password =(

  • Gone dang

  • link just went down

    • Nah, it's $769 now. As expected.

  • +1

I got in literally 5 mins ago. Got to be in it to win it!

  • +2

Lol - How many do you reckon they have on back order?

Some poor bugger is currently getting reamed by their boss on the phone whilst concurrently searching job adds online.

I guess we will find out tommorrow!

  • +2

JB honoured the Apple TV 4K $150 a while ago.
But this is a lot more for them to lose.

  • +1

    OzB'd

  • +4

It's not just gone, price in cart was updated to $769 and marked as out of stock so if anyone thinks JB will swallow $410 difference.. oh well, Santa is not real either.

    • +1

In other unexpected news, Gerry gave back job keeper payments. My point is that hell froze over today, so cross your fingers.

      • +1

he still has 16m left to pay though…

  • +1

Link is completely gone now. Good thing I nabbed one even if I don't know what to do with it.
