    $1899 and no dedicated GPU??

    • +1

What do you recommend? I was looking for something around 2k max. Mainly work and light gaming

      • -4

Idk haven't really been looking into laptops atm, but $1899 seems high for no dedicated graphics.

        • +11

This isn't a gaming laptop - it's built for productivity and durability.

          • -5

@suburbanmale: Thinkpad is not durable anymore after IBM sold the business to Lenovo.

My extended family have purchased around 20 ThinkPads in the last 15 years and Thinkpads start giving problems within 1-2 years as opposed to HP.

Thinkpads durability is less than 50% of the durability of HP.

HP's seems to last like the good old IBM Thinkpads now

            • +2

@utsc: Which series ThinkPad? E or L is not the same as T or P.

              • -3

                @coxymla: 40% T Series, E 40% Series, 20% P Series. (Purchased 1 L series for a friend but don't have info on durability)

I was a big Thinkpad fan because I loved the IBM Thinkpad Keyboards and the Thinkpad tract point mouse. (red button in the middle of the keyboard)

                • @utsc: Fair enough then.
Personally I have not had a problem with the durability or reliability of T/P/W.

                  • -4

@coxymla: Had lot of issues including freezing, over heating, blue lines in screen, power button going dead, speakers distorting sounds, battery dying within 2 years, ac adapters needing replacement, keyboards stop working, mouse pads not working and the list goes on.

It seems reasonable for gaming. Not competitively or anything but decent.

        32GB ram is good.

I bought the Ideapad s540 yesterday. Noticed it was on sale for $1275:
        https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-5-serie…

On chat i got it down to $1124.10 through the student store.
This one was a popular deal earlier in the year for slightly lower price:

$1899 because these laptops are very high build quality

You'd be surprised how good the AMD Vega integrated graphics are, they use way less battery power too.

I can run games like CSGO at 1080p 60hz on a less powerful chip in my T14

      • These machines aren't as great as Mac books.

        I've seen the build quality.

USB c ports are just hard to put cables in as tolerance ain't great.

The laptop isn't flat. Sort of moves when you press one side.

The touchpad isn't flush there is a dip so it doesn't feel as nice

Business quality but not the best consumer exp.

Rather go apple. If I'm paying 1.8 k for a laptop.

        • Is CS:GO compiled for M1 yet?

        • +3

You have the right to repair this laptop yourself without violating terms and conditions, unlike apple

    • +1

Who cares. 400 nits, that's all that matters now

    • +4

You do realise that a $1000 more?

      • -1

The neg talks the rest do

      • -2

You do realize that your math is wrong?……don't worry mate!

Lenovo P-series are mobile workstations. This specific one is geared for productivity and battery life, you're not going to get hot and power hungry components like Ryzen H series and discrete GPU's. What you get instead is all-day battery life, lighter/stronger chassis and business oriented features like full linux driver support, support for built in LTE modem and docking ports.

That said this is a laptop for people expressly seeking something light and durable, and don't mind paying a premium for it. If you're after a laptop for working from home, Legion gaming laptop / E-series / Yoga Slim 7 and even IdeaPad might be better value.

  • Is the M.2 nvme drive upgradeable??

    • +1

      yes

      • Thank you. Generally P series are the ones that let you upgrade/swap out parts like RAM, SSD etc? Is that correct?

        • +1

          Yeah that's correct

        • +1

S models (P14s) are usually slightly smaller/lighter/lower powered, e.g. this one has U class CPU and only 1 RAM slot.

  • +2

    Loving nits in title

    • -1

especially since it's Lenovo and they are pumping out budget laptops with low brightness

      • You mean Dell?

  • +4

    For those who have access.
    Lenovo Education Store: $1779
    Lenovo Corporate EPP: $1599

    • How can I register for Lenovo Corporate epp?

  • Why not x1 at this price

  • +1

Just needs a touch screen then perfect for me

  • -3

I think the below one was a better deal in terms of hardware configuration.

    Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (5800H, RTX 3070 140W, 16" WQXGA IPS 165hz 500nits 100% sRGB, 32GB, 1TB) $2,623.20 Delivered @ Lenovo eBay
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643288

It has better CPU, GPU, bigger and better quality screen and doubling the hard drive for just $724.20 more.

Personally I forgot when was the last time my laptop was being carried out, and I would prefer to go with the T's model as it comes with 3 years on-site.

  • -1

Can anyone recommend a docking station for this

    • -1

This does have the weird lenobo side-dock but you might be better off with a cheap standard USB-C (non-TB3) dongle that does ethernet, USB, PD, and DP

  • -1

I can't find the correct PSREF because this has the low power screen, which might actually be a good thing because the "privacy" screens are garbage.

    Here's a close spec:
    https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_P14s_Gen_1…

    • Yes, ordered this for $1556 from education store with couple EDUCOMM

  • Is the deal finished? I just tried the code and it says "Sorry! eCoupon not found. Try again?"

    • +1

Most likely, since Father's Day was yesterday. Use the Lenovo chat to get a better price. Just say I was thinking of getting this laptop, can you do a better price for me? I bought this exact laptop 3 months ago for around $1700 using the chat to get a better price.
