Holding out for Hogwarts legacy that’s on the horizon but good find Op

    • Beautiful set that is.

  • +1

How does Amazon preorder work? Won’t charge until it’s shipped? And if it’s cheaper before release will it charge the cheaper price?

    • +2

Charged only when about to ship. you'll get the lowest price from now until release.

    • Yep. It's great. I pre-order a lot of games when they first go live in case prices drop before release. I re-evaluate before the item ships and cancel if I'm not satisfied. Works well.

  • +1

Finally a date, this and hogwarts legacy is gonna make 2022 the best year for gaming. Hoping to grab a c1 77 by then to pair with my ps5 still in the box!

    • +3

You should open the ps5 up and check if its working before the warranty runs out.

      • +1

I thought about this but I got it in may this year I think so I have 1 year to test it

    • +4

Do it !! I just got mine the other day and HZD has been patched for 60fps and it's glorious

      • Very tempting as it'll look splendid on my current setup but I'm gonna hold out for forbidden west and a c1 77

        • Crazy!!! So many good games you give give a go.

  • +3

    Showing $109 in cart

  • +2

comes up at $109 in cart

  • How long does it take for Amazon to amend the price for existing preorders? I shouldn't have to worry about cancelling and reordering at all should I?

Also worth keeping an eye out to see if the PS4 version drops below this price since Sony just backtracked and announced the PS5 upgrade will be free.

      • +2

It's part of Amazon's preorder price guarantee. You pay the lowest price between when you order and when it releases.

Just checked again and my order is showing $88 so looks like it's all good, just takes a few minutes.

        • It is but it doesn’t mean they follow the procedure all the time. It is a hit and miss.

      • +2

No it doesn’t. You will be charged for the higher price when shipped

? Yes it does. I make heaps of preorders and whenever the price drops that price becomes the new preorder price automatically in my order history.

It's part of preorder price guarantee.

      • +3

        Woefully incorrect statement. (by wtfnodeal)

Amazon has a pre-order price guarantee where you are charged the lowest price from the time when you place the order to the moment it is shipped.

I pre-ordered this yesterday for $109 and it has already updated to show I will be charged $88 when it ships (assuming it doesn't drop any further).

        • Sorry I am confused. There is only price drop guarantee for pre order items? Say if I place an order for an in stock item and there is a price drop before it ships a month later. My order price is not adjusted automatically and I have to cancel my order and place a new order with the lower price manually?

          • @wtfnodeal: Yes, it's for pre-orders.

It also makes sense as Amazon doesn't charge you until they actually ship the product.

It's quite unreasonable to expect a store to refund you for a price drop a month after you've bought it. I know a few stores usually give a 2 week cover but nothing longer than that, apart from maybe Bunnings who are very easygoing with returns.

Also, knowing Amazon, had you actually asked them back then I'm sure they'd have given you the $1 or whatever the difference was for you.

            • @Shekster: Yeah but I am talking about the item is in stock but Amazon doesn’t ship it until 1 month later and yet still charge you the higher price you placed the order not the new lower price when they ship the item. Between the order date and shipment date there is a month gap and the price dropped but Amazon still charges you the higher price when you placed the order not the reduced price it is shipped. I don’t know why Amazon doesn’t want to ship the item immediately when it is an in stock item but I don’t think it is unfair to Amazon if it doesn’t want to ship the item immediately and there is a price drop when it decides to ship it then it should charge the lower price instead of the price a month ago.

              • @wtfnodeal: Yeah but the person you replied to (as well this entire thread/post) was talking about pre-orders.

Your situation is completely different, and could honestly have been easily resolved had you contacted Amazon.

                • @Shekster: They told me nope. You agree to pay for the item at that price on that day you place the order and that is what we are going to charge regardless of the price drop a month later when we ship your item. It is not a pre order item so we don’t do price drop guarantee.

    • +1

Not sure if you noticed, but my PS5 pre-order has been adjusted from $109 to $88 now

    • PS4 version is $89 for anyone who missed out - free upgrade to PS5

  • +16

What happened to the thing about not pre-ordering games??

    • +8

Agree but I like to pre-order at Amazon in case they drop the price between now and release as you automatically get the cheapest price. They don't charge until your item is shipped so you can easily cancel if the price is not what you want to pay or reviews, etc are bad.

Hello Games learned and have created an amazing game.

          That took years

@sob baget: Downvote me all you like, nerds - I'm just the guy holding up the mirror, not my fault you don't like what you see

            • @sob baget: People really hate self reflection. Why do you think we are always distracting ourselves with entertainment?

            • +2

              @sob baget: Oh no.

              Anyways.

            • @sob baget: You okay? You seem very angry about something not very important.

          • @sob baget: You were waiting to use those big words, weren't you 🤪

  • Yea shows as 109 for me too. Funnily enough I pre-ordered it earlier this morning in case they drop the price before release but my order is still showing as 109. Would have thought the price would update to reflect the 88 price if it did indeed show that price between then and now. This post was posted only 12 minutes ago so not sure it did ever go down to 88

    • +3

Check your order again, mine just updated to reflect the price drop :)

      • +1

Yep - just updated now. Thanks for the heads up!

  • +1

back to $109 on the page, might have been a mistake

  • Pricing error fixed, its $109 now

    • +2

It's $88 again this morning. I just ordered. I'm not sure how to unexpired the deal.

      • idk either but I reported this deal as "un-expired" so maybe mods will fix this. Not sure if we should post a new deal just a week later for the same thing

EDIT: Looks like this was the right choice, if you try posting the same deal you'll get the following error message anyway:

Please do not re-post recent deals (less than 1 month old) that have come back in stock (at the same or similar price), use the report button on the deal so the expiry can be removed, moderators can highlight the deal if need be.

Keep In mind they've just announced that PS4 versions will be upgradeable, and they'll likely be cheaper than this

    • Hopefully PS5 versions at places like Amazon will be the same price as the PS4 versions because of this.

    • +2

This is actually the PS4 price, Amazon has just made a mistake and put it on the PS5 listing.

    • Is this after the backlash?

      • -1

The misplaced and entitled backlash to be fair to Sony.

They always stated that only cross-generation games which came out during the first year of the console would have a free upgrade, to ease the transition into the next generation. When this policy was announced, HFW was going to be released in this window (but again, Sony never said that HFW would be getting a free update, just that all games within the 1 year would), but then got delayed to next year, which is no longer in this window, and as such there was no reason for the PS4 version to get a free upgrade.

It's unfair to expect a PS4 game at the same price as a PS3 game, so I don't really understand the backlash in the first place, apart from the fact it all started from completely false and misleading statements from game journalists unfortunately.

        • +5

No, you're wrong. Sony specifically stated that Horizon Forbidden West would get a free PS5 upgrade. It was on their own blog and is still there today.

          https://blog.playstation.com/2020/09/16/playstation-5-launch…

"Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive"

          • -4

@Shaun Prawn: No, you're wrong. As well as the users that have upvoted that comment and negged mine.

In the quote you yourself have linked, there is literally nowhere where it states that HFW would get a free PS5 upgrade.

"Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. …PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch." This quote is literally just saying that they will be releasing some games on PS4 as well as PS5, 0 mention of a free upgrade.

"The PS4…versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles."

So again, Sony have stated that LAUNCH games will get a free upgrade (as seen with games such as Spiderman: Miles Morales, which have been released within the first year of the console's release). If you believe a game that's come out over a year after a console is launched, then that's an entirely different issue.

You've literally proved my point about people creating a false narrative by not properly reading the actual statement which everyone wants to quote as evidence…

At the end of the day I'm all for getting a free upgrade, but that doesn't change the fact that getting one in the first place shouldn't have been just automatically assumed and expected.

            • @Shekster: Sony have just confirmed it themselves so they're actually right all along:

Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

              • -8

@Hybroid: Yes, Sony has backpedalled due to the misguided backlash.

That doesn't mean Prawn is right, it means Sony just wants to maintain good PR.

Even the quote you just referenced again says launch titles, and even refers to HFW going outside of the launch window (which is why they removed the free upgrade offer from it in the first place).

Not sure how much more explaining I can do, but if others want to argue against the facts then it is what it is. Again want to reiterate I'm in support of us getting the upgrade for free, but am just pointing out Sony was never obligated to as they specifically stated the offer only applied to launch window games, of which HFW is not.

                TL;DR

                • Sony give free upgrade to cross-gen launch titles
                • HFW is no longer a launch title.
                • Sony do not give free upgrade to cross-gen non-launch title.
                • Fans get mad and misquote the original promise.
                • Sony decides it's better to keep good PR than try to explain that those fans/journalists are wrong.
                • @Shekster: HFW was originally a "launch window" (undefined) title that got pushed back. So this would have applied regardless PR move or not. They've now clarified this intent. I think we need to stop defending them now on this now.

I'm actually perfectly fine with paying for PS4 -> PS5 upgrade, I think that's reasonable for the added PS5 features.

I don't think it was fine to not offer a PS4 -> PS5 upgrade path at all.

I also don't think it's acceptable to not include the disc in the Collector's Edition packs.

            • +1

@Shekster: What is wrong with you? It's literally on the Sony blog in the same paragraph talking about Horizon Forbidden West launching on PS4 and PS5 with a free upgrade path from PS4 to PS5. Where did you get the idea that launch titles are within the first year of a console release? I would say a launch title is one that is released at the same time as the console.

              https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2020/09/16/ps5-re…

“No one should be disappointed,” Ryan said. “The PS5 versions of those games are built from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5 feature set, and we have an upgrade path for PS4 users to get the PS5 versions for free. It’s about people having choice. I’m really quite pleased about the situation.”

Jim Ryan the man himself even said it in an interview. How much more evidence do you need. Why are you even trying to defend this? Makes no sense.

        • I agree with you that it is unfair to expect the price to be the same but the backlash is justified because there are still many many people who cannot get their hands on a PS5 so they have no choice other than buying the PS4 version because the PS5 version of the disc cannot be played on PS4.

All of these free upgrade noise are not necessary if everyone can actually move on from PS4. But unfortunately, the chip shortage is making it worse as well.

  • +3

it shows $109 now, would totally bang it at $88.

    • I just made a pre order at 109 right now, if the price drops, I get the lower price, if not I will cancel the preorder couple of days before shipping because I dont want to pay 109.

    • +1

PS4 version is $89 - pretty sure that can be upgraded to PS5 for free

    • It's $88 again this morning. I just ordered. I'm not sure how to unexpired the deal.

      • hey hey, i added it to cart last time and i can see the price has been updated to $88.

  • +1

I don't know about pre ordering 6 month in advance…. Even at a good price!

I'm well aware this game will most likely be great even if they regurgitate the last one with new story…

    • You are only charged when the item ships so your money is not locked.

      • Yeh fair point… I know that's the case with Amazon… Just thinking in general 🙂

  • +5

My preorder price just updated to $88 :) Very happy.

    Had it pre-ordered day 1.

    • +2

Oooo nice. Mine just updated too. Awesome!

    • +1

Same here, just can't beat the service from Amazon

  • +1

Tried to negotiate with customer service with no luck. Damn. Missed it

  • +2

Looks they dun goo and put it in the ps4 price for the ps5 version. Great for those that got in.

  • +8

Btw Sony has confirmed now that the PS4 version will have a free upgrade to the PS5 version. On Amazon and JB, the PS4 version is currently $89, so yeah, there's the PS5 version sorted if you missed out (perhaps it might go even cheaper in the lead up to release).

    • +2

Yep just preordered the PS4 version for $89 now that it doesn’t matter. Sure you don’t get the ps5 case but who cares. In some ways it’s a better option as you can resell a PS4 copy to both PS4 and PS5 owners.

    • +1

Thanks dude, didn't see the update regarding pricing. Pre-ordered the PS4 version for $89.

    • Thanks, ordered the ps4 version.

  • +6

Its so stupid physical games are cheaper than on the ps store now

    • For sure

    • +2

But the cost of manufacturing, packaging, logistics, and end point processing is so much more with digital games!

Damn, where did I leave my sarcasm tag.

      • Exactly, its the issue with all these console makers having a monopoly on their stores.

    • Monopolies rule!

  • +1

    Missed it by that much…

    • +2

Just grab the PS4 version for $89. Free upgrade to ps5 one now included with any edition.

      • +1

You can still preorder PS5 version on Amazon for $109 and when it drops it price it will automatically update…I doubt it will stay at $109 when it’s released or you can cancel it at anytime. 👍

      • true, but that would mean you'd have to download the whole PS5 version, and my managing my PS5's storage space is already a pain

        • +1

You already install the whole game from disc mate. Download vs physical makes no difference to the amount of space used on your hard drive. The only difference is using your internet bandwidth for the full download. Which most people have unlimited these days or large limits so not an issue.

          • @dwhes: Damn, is that true?! I thought it still used part of the disc and didn't install the entire game off it.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yep entire game gets installed to hard drive and the disk is just used for verification. Unfortunately :(

  • Is this open world? I've never played any of the titles.

I was thinking of this and buying Battlefield 2042 for the same price at Amazon.

I thought Amex has 3 month price protection and may be a drop around Christmas? So I could claim a percentage back.

    • I wouldn't preorder any Battlefield after how hyped up then disappointing the last few have been tbh

    • +4

You should play the original Horizon Zero Dawn first to see if you like this style of game. Yes, this is a traditional open world game.

It recently got a PS4 backwards compatibility patch, so it runs at 4K/60fps (with checkerboarding) on the PS5 and it looks fantastic. I’m about 20 hours in and really enjoying it, the lore and story is really interesting.

      • Just to throw my 0.02 in, I have loved so many first-party Sony games over the last 5+ years I really thought HZD would be another one, but I dunno, it just isn't. The combat feels very very clunky, the story didn't really grab me, and managing your inventory in an open world game is at the very bottom of things I enjoy doing while gaming.

The style and concept of the game are amazing, and I'm still going to buy the sequel in case it's improved upon the original, but I am still trying to push myself to finish the original game, it's just so average. Instead I'm playing New Game+ in Ghost of Tsushima, which I think is a 10/10 game running on the same engine.

        • +1

Yeah the premise of HZD is awesome. The execution leaves a lot to be desired. Waiting for the sequel to be heavily discounted will be easy for me.

        • +2

The combat feels very very clunky,

The melee combat is weak but using bow and arrow and other weapons is fun.

        • I doubt the sequel will change the formula much, it'll be very much the same kind of game still. I spent a few hours in GoT and it hasn't grabbed me yet, but I'll get back to it after I've finished HZD. I agree that most of the mechanics in HZD seem very average/pedestrian, but for some reason the core gameplay loop has kept me hooked and engaged.

For comparison, I absolutely loved Days Gone and platinumed it very easily, and found Far Cry 5 to be very boring and couldn't finish it.

        • I would actually say the opposite about the combat. Once you get a few weapons, combining them and bringing down the big beasts in a hail of ropes and explosions and fireworks is super fun and smooth. It's almost Doom Eternal level of cool with the time-slow down on the weapon wheel and the weakpoints and the weapon strategy. The only change I'd make is let us select 6 weapons at once. Games love to restrict you to two or 4 weapons, but its always more fun to be able to mix it up.

        • I am the opposite with HZD and GoT/GoW, couldnt put the former down and can't get myself to pick the latter up again.

  • +1

Thinking of getting ps5 just to play this game.

    • Get it, you wont regret it.
