Bought one in a recent deal, zero complaints.

How was the microphone and webcam quality?
Noticed some reviews saying they weren't great.

If anyone needs access to the education store and doesn't have an EDU email, please PM me and I can assist.

Thanks again Dowey for helping me last time 😊

    • That'd be very helpful thanks. How do I go about it?

      • +1

        • on clicking 'here'
          I'm getting this message

          "403 Access Denied
You do not have permission to access this page."
          Thx

        • Thanks, mate. It worked

    • Hey mate would love some help getting access.

      • Hi also having 403 denied and would like access

    • "403 Access Denied

      Thx

    • hey man, ive just enabled private messaging but it says i have to wait a day before i can PM. is there any other way you could help me get access to the edu store? cheers

    • Hi Doweyy, can you help me getting access to the Edu Store. Thanks.

    • Hi mate, could you send me a pm telling me me how to get access. Thanks

  • why don't we get models like this ?

    Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/294310269269

  • This or this 16 inch one with a 5800u and 350 nit screen for $50 more? 7 week delivery time on the 16 inch.

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/ideapad/ideap…

    • 16-inch 5800 latest AMD 20% fast with single and multicore, better and big screen and keyboard.
A little bit heavy and 8 weeks waiting

    • The one you linked has an H series AMD processor which has a TDP of ~45W vs the ~15W of a U series. Zen 3 (5th gen) also has significant improvements over Zen 2, especially in single thread. But the Slim 5 Pro is 16" so you are sacrificing on portability.

      • Bought the 16 inch one. It will be a home laptop so portability isn't really an issue.

        • Nice!

        • May I know which model? I don't have edu email, so I can't access your link

      • Noob question, which 16" laptop with AmD would you recommended? Only going to use it as an personal use and to upgrade for my 6yr Asus. Cheers

          I bought IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gen 6 16"
          https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-5-serie…

$1750 with 16gb ram and 5800 cpu from that link but $1150 through their education store. If interested send Doweyy a pm to get access to their education store. Look at the second comment on this page.

          • @wonderboy: Thanks for the recommendation. We just bought the same one as you suggested. Cheers mate

  • I got it in December last year. Still bit warranty left. I dropped tea on W key and broke it while trying to fix. It still works but popped out. Lenovo is asking to send it to them for repair but its gonna take 2,3 weeks. Any other recommendations from where to get it fixed in Melbourne ?

i went with an ideapad 5 pro from their edu store. gtx 3050 + AMD + 16GB ram+ 16" QHD 350nit display + doesn't look like a pimped out spaceship, all for around $1500

    • Yeah me too. Expecting to receive it soon.

    • +1

Bought the same model when on deal recently.

It did not take months to get delivered, I was worried on initial delivery date.

Installed Win11 on it and it is a beast.

      Followed techyescity guide on optimisation.

      • Hey how did you get Win11? Does it come free with the machine or you paid for it?

        • +1

You have to be on the Windows Insider program. Which anyone can sign up for.

Then you can download an ISO.

Or you can go to https://uupdump.net/ and build an ISO without insider program. You need medium tech skills to get it working.

Full version should be out in October, whatever version of Windows 10 you have now will upgrade to 11. Ie. If you have home you can upgrade to home, if you have pro you get pro.

          Micka

      • thanks, yeah estimate was something like 6 weeks, which was a bit annoying.. hopefully it's more like 3 weeks.

        Wouldn't touch Win11 with a 256bit encrypted stick

  • "Sorry! eCoupon not found. Try again?"

    This is for EDUCOMM.

    Did it work for others?

Added a second machine to cart and removed. Then discount code started working.

Terrific laptop. Love that 16:10 screen

  • If anyone looking for ThinkPads, nice discounts going on on P14s and P15s. Excellent workstations.

  • ordered. thanks

  • Does anyone know if I can charge this laptop and connect to a compatible docking station via the same USB-C port?

I currently connect my Huawei mate 13 to this Targus docking station and then to two 2 27" dell monitors and it works perfectly.
    https://au.targus.com/products/usb-c-universal-dv4k-docking-…

    • Yes you can. I have it charging and running 2x 1440p monitors @ 60Hz off one dock. I believe it is DP1.4 so should have more than enough bandwidth to do this.. the dock I was using though required me to create a custom resolution otherwise it would only do 1440+1080.. had it running like this for months no now issue.

Edit: As with all USB-C DP docks YMMV. I am using this one: https://www.umart.com.au/Volans-Aluminium-14-in-1-Triple-Dis…

      • Awesome, thanks for your reply.

      • Are you using Windows?

        • Yes I am.. why?

          • @NuclearWessels: I tried to use this with Linux + Dell D6000 dock + a 1080p monitor. Things did not go that well at first but managed to get it working.

  • Shipping advice received :D

    • Is your laptop shipped? That was quick? Did you get an email from Lenovo. I am expecting to get mine shipped today as per Lenovo tracking but no confirmation yet.

      • +1

        Yes, shipped.

Ordered last night at 9.55pm EST.

Shipping notification received this morning at 8.51am EST.

        Shipping is via DHL

        • That's awesome mate. Hope you get it soon and mine gets delivered soon too. That was very quick knowing it's from Lenovo lol. People have waited for 5-7 weeks only to get it shipped.

          • @ashftc: yeah that's crazy, i ordered on saturday, and still not shipped

            • +1

@lucyr: Well I ordered a different machine (Ideapad Slim 5 Pro). Called them and they said since it’s a custom built, even if it’s shipped today it will be from China. I was hoping to have it by end of weekend 😞

              • +1

@ashftc: My laptop arrived today at my local collection point.

                • @Introspective: That's wonderful. Mine is likely to be shipped today from Hong Kong :(

                  • @ashftc: I finally got tracking but there's no updates since the 6th. ETA has been revised from arriving today to arriving Wednesday but my confidence is waning :(

  • Hi all. The spec mentioned "Glossy" screen (Why?? it is even not touch screen). Anyone know if it is anti-glare or pretty much like a mirror? I have an old Dell laptop and it gave me headache with indoor usage, outdoor is un-usable.

  • Hey guys,
Any opinions on this model vs the MacBook Air m1 2020 model. I’m looking for a new laptop for uni and some light gaming.

    • What sort of light games would you be playing? Are they available on macOS? You get fantastic performance and outstanding battery life if you go with the MacBook Air. On the Windows side of things, you won't get the performance and longevity the MBA commands but at least you'll have access to PC games. That's not to say the laptop graphics adapter will be powerful enough to play these games.

  • had it working for a day and really like this unit. Kept going into sleep on its own was a bit annoying, and would also wake itself from sleep. Today the display just blanks. works on an external display, but the main screen will stay off with the occasional flash :(

  • How does this compare to the surface laptop 3 which is what I have now? I'm looking for a second one for the kids. Still not sure what to get didn't really want to spend so much.

Anything worth getting /right now/ vs wwaitng for black friday and xmas sales?

  • Assume this is a good option for a 1st year uni student with no unique application requirements beyond standard office apps, email, web browsing etc.
Requirement is long battery life (to last day at uni), usable screen for indoor and outdoor use.

Any better options, with similar spec?

    Thanks

This one is good. Ticks all the boxes in my perspective.
