Perfect for those who can't get a Batman.

100 of these or 1 Batman Rollie

      i think it's around 110 now lol.

If someone was selling a NIB condition Batman for $19,400, then I would definitely take that.

Sadly, I don't like my chances of that so I might pick this up for a bit of fun instead.

  • For one second, my brain just didn’t click - Rolex is selling Timex? 😂

    • “If you liked Rolex, then you’ll love Timex”

this just oozes 1980s along with gillette de razors and california ….etc.

    50m "diver" really….

even my Seiko FLIGHTmaster is 200m haha.

    • How often do people go down to 200m?

      • Seems like many professions who need a watch that takes a beating go for a g shock. Still, big fan of diver ranges in luxury watches. They look sick.

      • +11

Daily. Fields south of Hong Kong, off Brazil, Indo, Australia all sub 200m. Plenty more places. Saturation Diving operations, obviously.

Been looking after sat divers for 14 years. Only seen a divers watch go pop on one job, and that was on final deco up from 160m storage depth. Helium ingress over the duration of the Sat and then on final deco it wasn't off gassing fast enough and popped the glass out. Can't remember what it was, maybe a 50m Seiko automatic, pretty sure the diver it happened to is on the same job as me now (no, it's not 200msw here, only 108msw), can try to confirm later.

Common watches in the industry that I see on divers and technicians wrists daily:
        1. Casio G Shock
        2. Divex (don't know who manufacture them)
        3. Kirby Morgan (rebranded Deep Blue)
        4. Seiko automatics

        5. Rolex Submariner

        6. Omega Seamaster

The DiveX and Kirby shallow watches are more common than their 1000m editions because they aren't chunky and catch and scratch on literally everything you gotta stick your arm into out here.

The divers get a bit competitive with watch collections (Panerais, Breitlings, Rolex but they almost all stay at home). Eventually they start wearing their Submariners on the job but then when 1 diver loses a Sub, they all get scuttled away again in favour of a trusty and disposable G Shock for a few years til they forget how much it hurt the wallet.

On a project earlier this year and only just as the local divers hit surface after 28 days in Sat did they put on their big boy oversized $$$ watches for the first time for the obligatory walk to the smoking room.

Lots of people lust over a Batman.
Sat Divers lust over a Comex Double Red.

Please excuse my ignorance but why exactly is this guy getting downvoted?

            @alidli: Diving story. Salty.

There's a joke there somewhere I just haven't put it together.

        • +1

know what you mean about loosing watches ……i just do rec diving lost a seamaster on holidays, now i wear citizen and seiko into the water ….bought another seamaster for the office ….

haven’t seen divex in australia but overseas pricing (cheap) seems to place divex as a great water sports work horse creation watches have ratio which looks live divex but not sure of the quality.

          • @garage sale: Basically Divex is a respected diving equipment manufacturer, not as good as Draeger but a hell of a lot better than Lexmar.

Same as Kirby Morgan is the name in diving hats.

So you buy a Divex or Kirby branded novelty watch cos they pricing is right and people do love the diving gear they make, not because anyone thinks they're a watch manufacturer.

            • @So lo: where can i buy a divex in australia ….. yep they are dive brands that have added a watch, but it seems to well built for the task ….and they seems companies that wouldn’t put their name to something that breaks. at a job site, including their watches, kirby seems double the price of divex …..but divex at $£110 for a 500m or $£90 for a 200m doesn’t seem over the top ….but they aren’t on ebay or amazon so getting in australia could be an issue, and divex don’t ship outside of the UK.

              • +1

@garage sale: Will need to use an intermediary to reship it I guess. 🤷

@tdw The correct answer is the cheapest. If it's for work, sat divers would rather steal a good one or moan about their company issued one than ever buy it. But no companies give us watches so they've no choice.

        • what is the most popular/common g-shock model?

          • +1

@tdw: Not necessarily for diving, but the Casioak GA-2100 lately and DW5600 imo are very popular.

            • @xaykogeki: Guilty as charged…ive got both in multiple colours.

but i meant among the pro diver community.

          • @tdw: I've got a GA 2100, first G-Shock I've owned.
Was also going to mention the DW5600, pretty popular for the Retro and the original shape iirc, a lot of watch collectors add this to their collection.

Depends what you want though if so many to choose from it's not funny the chunky military look is good too but pretty big. I like the GA2100, analogue hands, pretty low profile and comfortable. The digital window is very small though. Be nice if more of the Casios had auto el and or lume on the indexes.

            • @G-rig: yes the lack of lume on the indexes is my biggest peeve about the casioak. wore the all-black casioak for a bit and had anxiety whenever people asked me for the time lol. i wear the skeleton version more these days. sad they didn't improve the lume with the new metal casioaks.

those and the 5600 are pretty much the only g-shocks that will look relatively normal on my wrist. the others are a little too conspicuous for my taste, although i do quite like the looks of the mt-g line.

              • @tdw: Agree, could have been a bit better, at for the expensive versions.

I like the general 5600 size and style for a simple beater, The [blue GMW-B5000G-2JF Radiosolar](Japan Domestic Genuine Products(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PVXS1NB?ref=exp_justonemorewatc…) is pretty nice but too expensive.

A lot of the G-Shocks look a bit youthful, or for wannabe gangsters. Pretty bold styling and chunky, don't mind it still but also don't have massive wrists.

                • @G-rig: ooh i'm a sucker for metallic blue…i probably would end up with that. bluetooth and solar the icing on the cake.

                  • @tdw: Yeah something about it looks great

      • +3

Also not exactly what the ratings mean. 50M doesn't mean a literal 50 metre dive.

50M is only rated for swimming in shallow depths, not inclusive of diving. So arguably not a dive watch at all.

Diving (snorkelling) capacity starts at 100M.

      • +1

200m WR is a bit of a bad analogy. 20BAR is a better way of stating it. People rarely dive that deep, but plenty of people interact with water in other ways.

Have a look at this chart. If you want a watch that you can reasonably wear all the time when you're in the water then you need at least 10BAR. If you want a watch that's actually for diving then you need a 20BAR model.

    • Anything less than 100m isn't worth getting wet at all, albeit the shower, pool etc. Probably alright.

      • Yes. 5BAR just means you don't have to worry about getting it wet and you might be able to carefully swim in it - but you wouldn't risk an expensive 5BAR watch in the pool. 10BAR is pretty much a wear anywhere watch.

Anyone wanting a batman or hulk should consider an AliExpress Pagani designs homage, they are pretty decent quality and better specs and overall package to this Timex

Seiko NH35 movement, 100m, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, screw down crown, good quality stainless steel bracelet (that doesn't pull hairs), date etc.
