I've seen enough of those YouTube videos to know that as soon as you flip the switch the robot will flip it back. You can't fool me!

  • Hmmmm. Curious.

After recently buying some Sensibo Sky Smart Air Conditioner Controllers which I've been unable to use on two different a/c units due to not having a compatible wifi remote to accompany them, I'm looking for options.

Any reviews on this and on whether they would work on devices without wifi, such as the two a/c control panels in question?

    • Hey,

As long as you have a surface underneath or to the side of the button you want to control (to which you can attach the switchbot), it will be able to press the button for you. Something like this:

Thanks for the response. I'll give them a go.

But since they're currently selling for $40.88 at Amazon for one @ www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0972SRD63, any chance of a $4 off code for orders through your site, so we can support you instead? The price, whilst competitive is not the cheapest out there and appears to be the usual price on your site for all customers.

        This is OzBargain. We're special…

          Hey,

Unfortunately those ones linked on Amazon are not by "SwitchBot", they are a different brand. The good thing about SwitchBot is their app and ecosystem just works, which is why they are a bit more expensive than these generic button pushers.

If you can find SwitchBot cheaper anywhere else, we will happily match or beat the price for the OzBargain community :)

        • This one seems work with bluetooth only

    • Which make and model air conditioner do you have?
There are some other open source WiFi to IR bridges that might work even if they don't offer all the functions of the remote control.

      • Both are Daikin ducted.

Controller on one which is 10 years old is BRC 1061, I'm unsure of the other model, but it's only 2 years old. Foolishly, the new one - like the old - does not have a remote…

        • Can the systems work with a infrared remote? If so the Broadlink RM Mini for about $20 would most likely work.

        • When you say it doesn't have a remote, do you mean you don't have an IR remove for it?

          • @whats up skip: Correct in both cases. I don't believe either unit can accept one either from my experimenting with Sensibo and some cursory searching online…

            • @UncleRico: I had jumped to conclusion that it was just a split system not a ducted system without a remote control.

I am sure it is possible to obtain a controller or build one for it, but it is past my pay grade.

        • I'm in the same boat. There is the Daikin Airbase BRP15B61 that should work with your system.

Obviously not as cheap but not too bad I guess if you really want full wifi control and can install yourself.

Not sure I want to spend that much on my 17 year old system myself though, but would be good to bring it in to my Home Assistant.

Will these work with standard Australian light/power switches (like these: https://hpm.com.au/product/switch-1-gang-standard/)?

    • Yes, I want to know too, as I have many of these around the house.

    • Hi,

Yes, we have tested them with similar switches and they work. It can be tricky to get the positioning right but once set up they do work.

      See this GIF: https://smartguys.com.au/pub/media/wysiwyg/asset_157739_imag…

There is basically a sticky pad that attaches to the switch that pulls it back to turn off! As long as there is a good mounting point for the switchbot on the faceplate it will work.

      • +2

No, he's asking if they work on Australian standard switches, not similar ones you've tested. The GIF you've posted is not OZ standard.
I'm interested in buying a few, but need to know if they work, because I remember going on the actual Switchbot website and they specifically say they don't work on OZ standard switches.

I'd suggest they prbably wouldn't work by default, but this review gives some great examples of ways to accommodate unusual button or switch placement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgFt6BiD7-k

Some pretty basic additions of packing cardboard or raised stickers would allow these to be used with only a couple minutes fiddling to get the orientation right.

          Hi,

Since you posted this comment, I thought I would go and try it on one of my switches - here is the video:

          https://imgur.com/a/SBqZPWw

          Hope this clarifies a bit!

          • +1

@smartguysaustralia: Perfect. Thanks! Much fiddling involved in getting that working?

            • +1

@pibloktoq: Not really, took about 5 minutes all up to get it working. The trick was to make sure the sticky plate was not put too high up on the switch.

    • I’ve got 2 of these switchbots. Tried on my light switch (type you have linked) and couldn’t get it to work. It’ll push it one way but every angle I tried just wouldn’t work to pull it back up.
Now I’ve got both in the garage, on on up button for garage door, one on down button.

Op, any deal for the hub mini?

    • Plus $9.99 for shipping = $49.89

      • +2

Use code ozfreeshipping for free shipping

        • Nice! Will look into it later, been meaning to buy another

        • This code doesn't work for us, if you can provide a screenshot of it working in the cart we would be happy to match.

I have this. Bought it about 4 years ago from Amazon US for about $70 at a time.

I have only had to change the 1x battery once in that time, the battery is unusual (CR2) but can buy 2 of them for about $5 on eBay

I have attached it to my ducted heater/aircon console. Not once has it fallen off and works 100% off the time.

You open up their app and click on the little power icon, and it uses Bluetooth from your phone to communicate with SwitchBot. You will know it works when it says "Success!" and the SwitchBot makes an audible sound too. You can also make a schedule. The only thing I have to manually do a few times per year is to change mode to either heating or aircon.

My SwitchBot only is used to turn on and off the power button on the console panel.

Highly recommended to make "dumb" electronics with a button become "smart"

I wouldnt mind getting one for my Breville dual boiler.

  • +1

This is only BLE. No wifi. Needs a hub to work remotely. If only this was a wifi switch i would have bought it instantly.

    • You can buy the SwitchBot hub separately. I personally only use Bluetooth and didn't want to add to the cost. From memory it adds Wifi capabilities and also adds with Alexa and Google functionality

    • It says you can use home assistant.

  • Any deal with the switchbot like bot combo kinda?

  • Can I pair it with a motion sensor (https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-grid-connect-smart-motion-…) so the light turns on and then off when no motion is detected? Will I need the hub too?

  • can it do short press to turn on machine and long press to turn off machine???

    • Unfortunately it's only possible within the app to set a single press time. Two separate ones for on and off cannot be set.

This could be done with a raspberry pi/home assistant set up though through an automation if this is your set up.

    • Looks like the beta firmware can handle short/long presses: https://support.switch-bot.com/hc/en-us/articles/44069857335…

  • Any deals on a SwitchBot + a Switch Hub?
