Spotted this at a Woolworths in the ACT.

This deal is only really a “deal” in my eyes if you load at least $159 on a gift card, as the bonus points you earn from purchasing a $159 gift card will have an equivalent value of the $7.95 gift card purchase fee.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Please check the back of the gift cards in-store before purchasing the gift card. There has been a report of fraudsters altering a number of gift cards to change the barcode on the back. The new barcode - which has been printed out on paper and stuck onto the back of the gift card - is for a different inactive EFTPOS gift card, which means that when you go to pay and activate for an EFTPOS gift card, you are activating a EFTPOS gift card in the possession of the fraudsters, not the EFTPOS gift card you are holding. If you find any tampered gift cards in-store on your bargain quests, please immediately alert staff in-store.

  • These gift cards (issued by Blackhawk Network (Australia) Pty Ltd) expire three years from the date of issue.

  • These gift cards cannot be used for online purchases.

  • These gift cards cannot be used to purchase other The Perfect Gift Cards at Woolworths. (I tried and the POS system blocked it.)

Terms and conditions

  • Offer available from 8/9/21 to 14/9/21 on all denominations of the Perfect Gift Card (EFTPOS), in Woolworths supermarkets, Woolworths Metro and Woolworths MetroGo only, while stocks last.

  • Excludes Woolworths Online and Ampol Woolworths Metro.

  • Standard points will not be earned on amount spent on gift cards, but the relevant number of bonus points which you qualify for under this offer.

Additional Information

Everyday Rewards Dollars

  • 2000 Everyday Rewards points is equivalent to $10 Everyday Rewards Dollars (redeemable at Woolworths, BIG W, BWS across Australia or Caltex Woolworths / EG Australia in mainland Australia) or 1000 Qantas points.

  • Everyday Rewards points can only be converted to Everyday Rewards Dollars or Qantas points in multiples of 2000.

  • Everyday Rewards Dollars cannot be used for any gift card purchases at Woolworths unless your Everyday Rewards Dollars balance has already reached the $4500 limit.

Earning Everyday Rewards Points

  • Any purchase of any gift cards at Woolworths (or BIG W) will not earn any standard Everyday Rewards points.

  • Any purchase of any gift cards in this deal at Woolworths will not count towards any other bonus Everyday Rewards points promotions. In other words, targeted/personalised Everyday Rewards offers at Woolworths (e.g. spend $x in one transaction to earn y points) usually exclude any purchase of any gift cards.

  • You will not earn any bonus Everyday Rewards points for the gift card purchase fee.

  • If you are purchasing this gift card at a self-service checkout, you should be able to see the number of Everyday Rewards points you will earn as part of this transaction in the top right-hand corner of the payment screen.

  • You will only earn bonus points on every whole dollar. For example, if you specify $50.50 as the amount to be loaded onto the gift card, you will only earn 500 bonus points, not 505 bonus points.

Paying for Gift Cards

  • Woolworths’ POS system allows split payments for gift card purchases at self-service checkouts and serviced checkouts.

  • Gift cards issued by Woolworths Group Ltd1 cannot be used as payment for any gift cards at Woolworths (or BIG W). Attempting to redeem them on gift card purchases will be blocked by the POS system and return an error.

  • Make sure to check the small activation receipt that the checkout prints after a gift card purchase. If it says successful at the bottom of the receipt, the gift card was correctly activated. If it does not say successful, alert the service desk of the failed activation and they will sort it out. This receipt will be printed out even if you have turned off paper receipts for your Everyday Rewards account.

Odds and Ends

  • Gift card purchases at Woolworths will earn 4c/L (or 6c/L in Tasmania) fuel vouchers.

      I’m fairly sure that gift card purchases are excluded from the 10% off discounts. There’s no harm in trying, but I’m fairly sure I have seen people here comment that you cannot apply the 10% discount on gift card purchases.

        You seem to be the master of the cards here . Anyway my last US transaction on Ebay OZ with an Ebay gift card I found the exchange rate virtually on or little difference comparing with Bloomberg . Because of that I'm stocking max all denominations on the Coles Swap Celebration cards on all Flybuy accounts . Summary you basically get the full Flybuy discount % and exchange rate .

    I really don't see the point of this since you can always buy Woolworth's cards on-line at a discount?

    I have been buying the $500 ones with a 5% discount ($25) for ages, I bought two ($1,000) four days back. I use them over time (we do a lot of on-line ordering) then buy more when the credit is used. They work in store or on-line.

      The point is that your not buying Woolworths Gift Cards! I just paid $500 off my water bill at the post office and for the small sum of $7.95 got 5000 Reward points along with 1500 Amex points as extra!

            @V001: What JIMB0 is trying to say is that Woolworths has probably set up their POS system so that when you swipe an EFTPOS gift card at Woolworths, it will check the card’s bank identification number (BIN) and if you are trying to buy a gift card, it will block your EFTPOS gift card from being able to purchase a gift card.

            I have no idea if this is actually the case though.

    @WookieMonster thank you for the heads up :) I grabbed a $500 this morning. At the end of the day 3.5% in savings is still a good deal for everything that you can buy at stores that aren't ww's - I shop a lot at the Adelaide Central Markets so it all helps :) thanks again :)

    i tried to split pay with some $250 coles mastercard gift cards but i got an error and terminal froze saying enter gift card and when i swiped it said gift card not accepted so i had to use a different terminal and paid with a credit card instead. maybe i pressed something wrong on the screen i dont know. can someone that has actually used a coles mastercard gift cards to purchase this $500 eftpos offer with split pays please confirm?

      I haven’t tried paying it with Coles Gift Mastercards (yet).

      When you were on the payment screen, did you select Card (Split Payment) or Gift Card (Split Payment)?

      Ofcourse if you try to put your Coles prepaid Mastercard as a WISH giftcard system will reject it, because it is not a Wish GC. You are meant to use Card payment option (by Credit account)

      I’m not entirely sure. I’m in the ACT and we’re currently excluded from the promotion.

      My assumption is that gift card purchases are excluded from the Woolworths Bricks, because gift card purchases were excluded from the Discovery Garden promotions. I cannot find the terms and conditions of the Woolworths Bricks promotion on their website…

    This is my first time that I have used coles mastercard giftcard. I was in Aldi the other day and I selected credit when paying in the machine. I entered the pin indicated in the back of the card and all good. I am wondering if anyone has tried purchasing a giftcard in Coles/Woolworths and used the coles mastercard giftcard in self service checkout as Credit when paying and if there’s no issue?

      I’ve had zero issues using the Coles Gift Mastercard to purchase other gift cards at Coles.

      Other people have had zero issues using the Coles Gift Mastercard to purchase gift cards at Woolworths (including the gift card in this deal).

      Just make sure to process it as card payment, not a gift card payment.

      If you get a $100 Perfect EFTPOS gift card, you will earn zero standard points for the gift card face value or the purchase fee. However, you will earn 1000 bonus points as part of this deal.

          Different from Coles, purchasing gift cards from woolworths have no standard points. But as a promotion, you will have 10 x (face value) rewards points.

          However, from time to time, Woolworths runs bonus points promotions where you earn a certain number of points for each dollar you load onto a gift card (like this deal). This is in addition to the standard earn rate, as the bonus earn rate is a multiple of the face value of the gift card, not a multiple of the standard earn rate.

              Yes, that’s right, it’s a multiple of the face value of the gift card, not a multiple of the standard earn rate.

              I think you are getting confused with the Everyday Rewards points boosters we see in the Everyday Rewards app or Woolworths catalogue from time to time, as those are a multiplier of the standard earn rate. For example, for a 5x points booster means that when you earn 1x standard point, you will also get 4x bonus points.

              Does that mean that if bought a $100gc not on promotion I'd get 0 standard points +100bonus points ?

              No. If you bought this gift card on Wednesday (outside of the promotional period), the bonus earn rate would go back to 0x. You will earn 0 standard points and 0 bonus points.

      I wouldn’t say it is illegal, but it is definitely against the terms and conditions of the card (clause 4).

      You could purchase an item from a store, return it for whatever reason and then have the refund processed onto an EFTPOS card attached to your bank account… but I never suggested that!

      It should work. Gift card purchases at First Choice Liquor, Liquorland and Vintage Cellars have triggered AMEX cashback offers for me and I’ve received the cashback without any issues.

      I’m assuming Excludes gift card purchases is not listed in the offer terms and conditions, right?

    Please check that your cards are not tempered with prior to purchase.

    We purchased a $500 Eftpos gift card that had its barcode tempered. There were at least five of them on the shelves. The fraudster took a photocopy of the barcode and pasted it on another Eftpos gift card, which when scanned and paid for will activate the physical Eftpos gift card that they hold.

    It’s an elaborate scam. A few users have brought this up before in previous prepaid gift card promos.

    Anyway, evidence has been passed on to relevant authorities who have found ways to nab the fraudster(s), which I can’t comment further beyond this.

    Really feel sorry for vulnerable people who fall victim to financial scams in general, especially during this time of Covid.

        there sure is fingerprint left on it if police is even keen on running a basic scan of fingerprint database. I found police in Australia is way too lazy to want to do anything at all. The best thing they want to do is target easy one like jaywalking.

        Yeah there are different ways to temper it.

        In our case, check that there is no piece of paper (a photocopied barcode) pasted over the barcode of the physical gift card that you’re purchasing. Hope that made sense..

        I use to cry when the deals came up. I complained fairly regularly about FSC and its inequity on deals like this. I only had a couple of years of using Egift to buy gift….those were the days. But still happy can still turn a free brunch (or several) out of these deals.

          The FSC was good for a very long time though, as Everyday Rewards in its earlier iterations sucked.

          I remember the time when Everyday Rewards only gave you bonus Everyday Rewards dollars on a small number of specially ticketed items across the store that changed each week, but I only earned $4.70 in the space of six months!!

          It’s only when Everyday Rewards changed to the current model and started releasing lots of bonus points offers that it really started to leave FSC in the dust.

          I do miss the higher standard points earn rate of the FSC though, because I am not a big spender in my weekly shop (and neither is my old man). However, the occasional bonus points offers are nice.

          I only had a couple of years of using Egift to buy gift….those were the days.

          That’s better than me! I had zero years of using eGift cards to pay for gift cards at Woolworths, because I only became aware of discounted eGift cards in late 2017, and I only began to appreciate the concept of purchasing gift cards with supermarket gift cards in 2020! Sounds crazy, right?

            We use to get 1% on our spend via FSC compared to 0.5% on Rewards. In reality that came to $50 via a $5000 yearly spend.

            I didn’t have a Flybuys card for years, as the return was minuscule.

            Gift card offers have certainly turned that around, and it’s free money for little work/time in a lot of cases. Of course picking the right deal is crucial.
