  • BONUS POINTS can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type including different denominations of the same Gift Card but can only be collected up to 5 times per Flybuys account.

Additional Information

Flybuys Dollars

  • 1000 Flybuys Points is equivalent to $5 Flybuys Dollars (which can be redeemed at a number of retailers).

  • Flybuys Points can only be converted into Flybuys Dollars in multiples of 2000.

  • Flybuys Dollars cannot be used for any gift card purchases at Coles, as it will be blocked by the POS system and will return an Invalid Product Mix error.

Earning Flybuys Points

  • Any purchase of third-party gift cards1 at Coles supermarkets also earns base Flybuys points; therefore, the number of Flybuys points you earn for each $50 Swap Celebration gift card is 1050 points (up to 5 gift cards). Once you exceed the 5 gift card limit, you will only earn base Flybuys points.

  • Any purchase of any gift cards at Coles supermarkets will not count towards any bonus Flybuys points offers other than the one mentioned in this deal. In other words, targeted Flybuys offers at Coles (e.g. spend $x in one transaction to earn y points) always exclude any purchase of any gift cards.

  • Flybuys points earned at Coles are not credited immediately after a transaction is finalised. Flybuys points earned as part of this promotion should be credited to your Flybuys account around 6:30pm AEST/AEDT on the day after the transaction.

Other Flybuys Information

  • Scanning your Flybuys card when purchasing third-party gift cards at Coles will usually cause the minimum spend on targeted Flybuys bonus points offers to go up, because that's how Flybuys has set up their algorithm for determining the minimum spend requirement.

Paying for Gift Cards

  • Coles’ POS system does not allow any split payments for gift cards at self-service checkouts under any circumstances. If you are seeking to do split payments at a checkout, you need to go to a standard checkout (i.e. either at a checkout with a dedicated staff member who packs your groceries for you, or the service desk).

  • Some gift cards issued by Coles Group Ltd cannot be used as payment for third-party gift cards. Attempting to use any of the following gift cards will be blocked by the POS system and will return an Invalid Product Mix error.

Gift Card Name Gift Card Prefix2
Coles Groceries & Returns Gift Card 6273 4000
Coles Groceries & Returns Gift Card 6273 4005
  • Gift cards issued by Coles Group Ltd clearly states that they cannot be used for purchases of gift cards, so staff members may stop you from paying for a gift card with a gift card issued by Coles Group Ltd.

  • Customers of Coles Financial Services products can instantly redeem 2000 Flybuys points for a $10 discount when purchasing any gift cards at Coles.

  1. Third-party gift cards at Coles are defined as gift cards that are not issued by Coles Group Ltd. If you have a gift card where you can check the balance here, it was issued by Coles Group Ltd.

  2. The gift card prefix is the first eight numbers of the gift card number. It is not the first eight numbers of the gift card barcode number

As points doesn't scale, $50 and under would be the best value for the Gift Card (~10% off).

Swap Adventure & Leisure - Acoor Hotels, Webjet, Drummond Golf, Sofitel, Novotel, Ibis, Adrenaline and Anaconda,
Swap Celebration - Sephora, eBay, Footlocker, The Iconic, City Beach, Lorna Jane, Red Balloon, Barbeques Galore, Subway, Dymocks and isubscribe

I think you can use flybuys dollar(Swipe your physical flybuys card at the card machine) as a payment method.

    • ohhhh double triple … and so on dipping

    • That does not work at Coles (well, not in my experience, anyway).

I tried to use Flybuys Dollars two weeks ago when purchasing a third-party gift card (out of curiosity), and I got the Invalid Product Mix error.

    • +6

You think, but never tried. It does not work now. It did work many years ago.

  • +1

Good to combine with commbank rewards. Have 15 off 150. I think it expires on Wednesday.

    • I have 5/100, not ideal but makes the deal a bit sweeter.

  • do they have $20 value cards?
last deal i bought $20 netflix cards and got 1000 back worths $5. so 25% off.

    • +2

I’m fairly sure the smallest denomination of the Swap gift cards is $50.

I know Spotify gift cards come in 3 months ($36) and 6 months ($72) at other retailers, but I’m not sure whether Coles sells the $36 gift cards.

      • They do. Well, they have in the past.

  • What denominations are the Spotify cards available in?

    • +1

I know Spotify gift cards come in 3 months ($36) and 6 months ($72) at other retailers, but I’m not sure whether Coles sells the $36 gift cards.

  • Its unclear if its on a 1000 points on a $50 or $100 Swap Celebration gift card.
Although the catalogue image is showing a $100 gift card card.

    • It’s for both denominations, as the terms and conditions do not list nor exclude specific denominations.

      • I see this in the catalogue:

Collect 1,000 BONUS Points When You Buy a Bananalab Him Gift Box, Bananalab Her Gift Box, Spotify Premium, Swap Adventure & Leisure, Swap Celebration or Swap Entertainment Gift Card and Swipe Your Flybuys Card at the Checkout
A limit of 5 Gift Cards per customer applies. Offer valid only in store at Coles Supermarkets (excludes Coles Online, Coles Express and purchases via giftcards.com.au), subject to store availability. Excludes Swap Food Delivery Gift Cards. To qualify for this offer you must present your Flybuys card at the time of purchase. While stocks last, no rainchecks. Offer valid from 08/09/21 to 14/09/21. BONUS POINTS can be awarded more than once for each Gift Card type including different denominations of the same Gift Card but can only be collected up to 5 times per Flybuys account. Standard Flybuys terms and conditions apply and are available at Flybuys.com.au.

Strange it doesn't list it.. i just don't want to be buying 5 x $50 vouchers and get a big fat 0 points hehehe

        • +1

Coles are always careful to list any excluded denominations in their gift card terms and conditions (unlike Woolworths).

For example, this deal states in the title that only $100 and $250 denominations are included in the deal, plus it specifically excludes in the fine print the $50 denomination.

The same can be said for more recent deals (but those deals on OzBargain don’t have screenshots of the terms and conditions).

        • 'Strange it doesn't list it' Not strange. Standard terms have been listed for this deal.

  • Can the Swap Entertainment card be used to by Nintendo eshop cards from EB Games?

    • +1

Answering my own question, since I just went and tried it myself… Yes they can.

I bought 4 x $50 yesterday from Coles, it did take quite a few hours for the swap cards to be converted to EB cards. I submitted them yesterday afternoon, and they came though about 11:40pm last night.

The only "issue" is that Nintendo, for some reason, has odd numbered gift card values ($15, $30, and $60) but thankfully the girl at EB had no problem putting through 3 x $60 and a $30 one with 4 x $50 EB gift cards and the remaining $10 on visa.

I haven't gotten the points yet after about 24 hours, but the transaction doesn't appear in the app at all, so I'm guessing it's just a bit slow.

  • I bought 5x$50 Swap Celebration GCs and there was no bonus points listed on the docket.

I was not able to pay with Flybuys $.

    • Of course not. This is not EDR.

If you are keen to use F$, buy Coles Group& Myer card @ other Wesfarmers stores(e.g. Kmart, Coles Express, etc.) with it.

      • +1

Just checking my understanding (before I get too excited!). It sounds like you can buy a Coles Group & Myer GC from, say, Coles Express, using FB$. And then use this to pay for other gift cards at Coles? ITIA.

        • +2

Pay for other 3rd party cards. Liquorland may be more convenient in most cases as it is usually attached to a Coles. But some locations do not sell giftcard as they think customers can always get it in Coles.

          • @Neoika: Wow, fabulous, thanks Neoika for your response! I've been wondering what to do with my Flybuys balance since the start of the pandemic … used to transfer them to Velocity for great rewards (e.g. business class international flights). But with a toddler and no reason (or current ability) to travel internationally - I've been looking for another way to use them (other than just on groceries). Thanks so much!

            • +1

@lush_mcduff: It has been discussed here. If you want buy it without staff assistant, go to a Kmart self-checkout. I have been questioned by unexpd staff about it.

              • +1

@Neoika: Thanks again Neoika for your advice (and the advice in the OP, which I can now see covers this, reading between the lines). I successfully purchased a $100 Coles/Myer GC at Coles Express with $100FB!! (unfortunately I'm in Sydney, so shopping instore at Kmart/Target is not an option at the moment). This is great and gives me more flexibility. Thanks again!

In case others are interested, most of their gift cards were kept behind the counter at Coles Express. They had a range of values of the Coles Gift Mastercard, Coles/Myer, Apple, Bunnings, Vanilla Visa (I think) and maybe some others. The staff member initally said no to me when I pulled out my Flybuys card but he thought I wanted to EARN points. When I asked to pay with $FB, he said, oh yes, no worries!

          • @Neoika: Can we pay these with Coles egift card? Or only Coles Myer physical card works? Have some reward point from cc and they only have Coles one

            • @hanofee: As OP wrote clearly, only Groceries & Returns Gift Card does not work.

              • +1

@Neoika: thanks, did it last night, the self-service was unfortunately closed and had to go to the counter. the lady initially said it won't work, not allowed bla bla, but after I asked "can we, at least, give it a try"? so she said OK, then it surely worked :)

    • +1

You will need to wait couple of days to be able to see it into your flybuys account

      • Celeb would be my pcik since it's got SUbway haha

    • +1

It will show in your flybuys account the next day after 5pm

      • Confirmed.

        • Yup also got mine today :)

  • -3

I'm wondering if anyone received the 1000 points with $50 celebration card purchase? Thank you

  • +1

Just received 5000 points for 5 * $50 gift cards bought, thanks again OP!

    • +1

      No worries!

    • +1

      Thanks for the confirmation.

  • +1

How long does it take when you swap it for an ebay giftcard?

    • +1

Most of time pretty soon. Sometimes a few hours.

  • so can i purchase it tomorrow or it expires tomorrow?

    • +2

Tomorrow is fine. Coles/Woolies weekly cycle is Wed-Tue.

  • thank you

  • +1

Many thanks guys. I can confirm I purchased 2 x $36 Spotify premium cards last weeknd and can already see 2,000 bonus flybuy points on my acount.

    • +1

      Enjoy!

      • ^-^ Thanks! About to buy more Spotify cards. Great deal like 14% off!

        • Hot tip: you should be able use Coles Digital Gift Cards (e.g. from Cashrewards’ gift card portal) to pay for Spotify gift cards, so you can stack the savings even more!

          • @WookieMonster: Many thanks for this. Although I do not think you can use a gift card to purchase another gift card due to restrictions against money laundering.
However, did you mean that I can get $5 if I buy gift card online via Cashrewards anyways? Thanks anyways I will read the rules instead of bothering you ^^ Many thanks.

            • +1

@HeyJes: Their system allows that, but staff might prevent u for that. So, try self-service whenever possible

              • @hanofee: I found the self checkout were blocking them and the staffed checkouts no problems buying my 5 cards in this deal using the Coles MC's .

                • @popsiee: oh? never had issue with self-service before, but u have to pay in full (can't do split payment). still need staff to authorize the gift card itself, but that's before payment

                  • @hanofee: I have tried that before. During checkout, the self-service machine will tell you staff assistance is required, and gift card purchase is NOT allowed if you pay with a Coles gift card. Maybe @popsiee and @wookiemonster were able to do so via Coles gift MC's, which now appears to be different from Coles giftcard…

                    • +2

@HeyJes: Here are some additional tips for paying for a gift card with a gift card at Coles, depending on whether you are going through a self-service checkout or a serviced checkout. Btw, I am not referring to Coles Gift Mastercards anywhere here, as they are really Mastercards, and Coles (and Woolworths) do not have restrictions on how you can use Coles Gift Mastercards.

                      Self-Service Checkout

                      • I have purchased third-party gift cards using Coles Digital Gift Cards (e.g. the ones from Cashrewards) and physical Coles Group & Myer gift cards through self-service checkouts.

                      • I have encountered an error twice (once with a Telstra SIM card kit, once with a Google Play gift card) where I was only buying a third-party gift card when I had a Coles Digital Gift Card and pressed Gift Card as the payment method. I got an error saying that I could not use gift cards to pay for gift cards.

                      • There have been other times where I have purchased the third-party gift card with a random grocery item (e.g. a mango, a punnet of strawberries), and when I selected Gift Card as the payment method, the POS system allowed me to use a Coles Digital Gift Card.

                      • I have purchased only a third-party gift card using a physical Coles Group & Myer gift card by selecting Card as the payment method, instead of Gift Card. (I think Coles has programmed their POS system to stop you when you press Gift Card as the payment method, not when you actually swipe a gift card.)

                      Serviced Checkout

                      • As far as I am aware, the POS system at these checkouts do not restrict the payments you can use for paying for a third-party gift card. I have bought third-party gift cards (and nothing else) at serviced checkouts, and on all occasions, staff were happy to let me use multiple Coles Digital Gift Cards as payment methods.

                      • However, you are at the complete mercy of the staff members, as some staff actually enforce the T&Cs of Coles (or Coles Group & Myer) gift cards and will refuse to let you purchase third-party gift cards with Coles Digital Gift Cards.

            • +2

@HeyJes: Coles has only blocked some of their gift cards from being used to purchase other gift cards. I purchased Coles Gift Mastercards using Coles gift cards as payment a couple of weeks ago without any issue.

However, the staff at your local Coles may not even allow you to purchase a Spotify gift card with a Coles gift card, because they have been instructed to not let customers to pay for gift cards with gift cards. Your mileage may vary.

The deal I linked to is where you can earn $5 bonus cashback at any online store (including Cashrewards’ gift card portal, but excluding eBay), so long as your online purchase will earn standard cashback from the store.

              • @WookieMonster: You are a genius sir. I got the bonus $5 pending on my CW account now!!! Didn't realise now CW sells gift card. I guess this is some sort of incentive and promo for introducing this function.

  • Is it a risk that if you hold onto these cards, and down the track ebay pulls out, can you still us them on ebay seeing that's what you paid for and have the card with the ebay logo etc on it?

    • +1

can you still use them on ebay seeing that's what you paid for and have the card with the ebay logo etc on it?

I would assume the answer is no.

Case in point is David Jones and the Ultimate Her gift card.

David Jones used to accept the Ultimate Her gift card, but around this time last year, they stopped accepting them (which is coincidentally when they also stopped selling discounted gift cards). You may see really old Ultimate Her gift cards still stocked at retailers with the David Jones logo on them, but the issuers of the Ultimate Her gift card say that you can only spend them at the participating stores as shown on their website, not on the gift card you may have purchased.

I guess that’s the risk you take when you get involved in the (discounted) gift card game.

      • Sorry to contradict you as I totally acknowledge your extensive knowledge in these matters and dedication to helping others, but in July I successfully used a Her Ultimate GC with DJ logo on it in DJ's Chadstone, Melbourne.

        • +1

Wow I eat my words, that’s good to know.

I wonder whether the Ultimate Her gift cards without the DJs logo can be used at DJ.

        • +1

I think these cards might be different because you have to swap them on their website. If no ebay option there then can't swap

          • @toobzy: I only brought up the Ultimate Her example, as that was the only example I could think of where a retailer withdrew from a gift card program. However, @Yola disproved my theory, so I really don’t know what Blackhawk Network (the card issuers) would do in the situation where eBay no longer accepted the gift cards.

I had a look at the gift card terms and conditions and could not find anything about your question, so who knows what would happen if/when eBay pulls out? I would like to think that Blackhawk Network would have the decency to give us advanced notice that they will no longer swap for eBay gift cards after a certain date, but who knows!

  • Coles is still stingy even it allows 5 times bonus pts now. Once I scanned the 3rd card, it prompts scam alert and require staff assistance. After I scanned the 5th card, it says exceeding limit BS. Followed by a staff shouting at me: you can only buy 5 cards a day and he took away the other unactivated 5 cards.

    • +1

I find it quite bizarre how some store staff don’t batter an eyelid when you try to purchase a handful of gift cards, yet others arc up and treat you like a criminal or something.

      • +2

Yes, I find this is often older ladies (speaking as an older lady). I think they have small lives and enjoy the little bit of power they have.

  • -1

Swapped mined for eBay cards but they are yet to arrive.

    • +1

You must be doing sth wrong. I swapped last night and this morning. All arrived pretty soon.
