      It's just so you can attach an external HDD and share your files to your devices rather than hosting them on your PC and keeping your PC on all the time. Saves spending money on a NAS I guess.

      What the people above said: external storage/usb modem.

      Really though its probably economics/marketing. The IC chip they use probably already comes with USB functionality built in. It probably adds less than $1 to add it per unit, and then marketting can say it has USB! Which is a highly recognizable term.

    Hey guys, just curious, how would this router compare to my Asus RT-AC86U? I need to get a replacement as when I woke up the other day the internet wasn't working, and when I looked at my router, I noticed all the lights were off expect the one ethernet port where I have my powerline adapter plugged in via ethernet cable was still on (I assume this was getting power from the powerline/wallsocket and is why that light was still on?), but the rest of the lights including the router's power light were off. I pulled an old model router out of my cupboard, plugged that in, and internet worked fine again.

    I originally bought the RT-AC86U because I use a VPN to access geo-restricted content and read that it had good open VPN performance, so that is one of the main reasons I went with it. How would this router compare in that regard? Do any routers support Wireguard at all?

    Anyway, not sure if I should stick with Asus Routers as I really like the AsusWRT interface and am used to it (never used any other brand before), or will TP-Link or other brands be easy enough to learn?

      Anyone got an opinion? Not sure what to get as a replacement for my Asus RT-AC86U that also has similar VPN performance. Don't care too much about the Wi-Fi speeds (something similar to the RT-AC86U AC2900 would be fine). Max budget would be about $300.

    Is it good for FTTN and does it support VDSL? I tried finding these keywords on the product details but I couldn't. And this link here says AX73 hasn't included FTTN. Does that mean I can't use it on FTTN?
