      Integrated AMD Radeon™ Graphics

  • +3

    Nice specifications

    • +1

You probably wanna go with 120hz screen for extra 100

      • +2

Why? You're not doing much gaming that takes advantage of higher refresh rates with just integrated graphics.

        • Yes it was just personal preference

      • Display
        16.0" WQXGA (2560x1600) IPS 350nits Anti-glare, 60Hz, 100% sRGB

Better than 1080p screen, this is not for gaming, why 120hz?

        • Probably if not gaming just for browsing / scrolling then… Perhaps not worth it. Depends on user…

The integrated APU (Vega 8) is still capable of some light /low gaming especially on older or esport style titles though…

        • higher frequency isn't just about gaming

smoother UI experience is something everyone should try

      • not sure why the downvotes

120 or 144hz is a huge quality of life improvement over 60hz

once you go high frequency there's no going back

and to those worried about battery life, you can always run it at 60hz in windows settings if you need extra hour or so

        • Well said especially when the technology is adapting to higher refresh rate. Once you scroll which you are doing all the time you can actually feel slow in 60 hz. There is no going back at least for me

  • +3

I bought the same model with a 120hz screen and 3050 in the last deal. It's very nice quality and finish. Would definitely recommend.

    • Hey mate can you omment on battery life on normal usage like browsing, youtube netflix. Plus how long was your estimated shipping and actual shipping. Thanks

      • +2

I have been using it plugged in generally but the battery life seems decent, I want to say 8 hours with general browsing and some videos without battery saver or anything on. I ran a lot of cookie clicker on it too and it had closer to 6 with that. I ordered on July 23rd and it was in my hand around Sept 3rd, so roughly 6 weeks. The estimated was for November but it updated right before it shipped to mid Sept.

        • Thanks for the comment mate. Want to get one but dont know if i can wait that long.
          Cheers

    • +1

I bought the same about 3 weeks ago.. the waiting is killing me. In Aus now, so should be another week or so.
      At $1555, seemed a steal

    • how much it was ?

      • The full spec, 5800H, 3050 and 120hz was 1470. I also bought a year extended warranty with on site servicing for $70 for a total of $1540.

        • Looks sweet. $100 less than what we are getting now.

    • Hi duffydave,
do you mind if I ask if you have any temperature problems?

I have an old Toshiba i7(2nd Gen) + GeFore GT 540M with 8GB RAM that overheats and shuts down during Zoom meetings!

I've been reluctant to buy a powerful laptop ever since.
Sure, after almost ten years, I still use it and right now it could use a clean up and fresh thermal paste, but it's always been a disappointment - it struggles with photo editing, it's never been able to play games without shutting down quite quickly - most taxing things tried were Football Manager and, recently, Roblox. (although I've just today discovered that maybe I need to manually configure programs to run use the graphics card not the integrated graphics!).
Still, when the ambient temps get above mid-20s, BSOD is a constant worry.

Have you tried any taxing activities?
      How does it fare?
And do you use any additional cooling methods / air con etc?

And how does text look for office work - not on the small side?

      • Get the M1 MacBook if you want to keep it for long time.

        If you want to game
Just buy PS5 or Xbox separately
Or build a gaming PC when the GPU price becomes more reasonable.

  • Wrong pricing? im seeing 1304$ on my end, 1109$ base +100$ for 5800h and +95$ for a bundled upgrade to 16gb ram with no option to downgrade.

    • did you apply code in education store?

      • ah ok i see it. cause it said the code already applied but the price didnt go down

    • Apply EDUCOMM at check out and it should show another 10% off

      • i see it now. before it had the code displayed but its not taking any price off for some reason

  • Looking good with the big battery

  • any additional ram slot?

    • Negative.

    • Soldered unfortunately…

  • Good price. Can't find the weight of this thing. Maybe 1.5kg given its 16"?

    • +2

      Starting at 1.9 kgs.

      • Ok if you don't need to carry it around

      • That's heavy. Deal breaker for me.

        • +4

seriously? did peoples' muscles somehow deteriorate to the point of not being able to carry around 1.9kgs over the lockdowns??
just a year or two ago, this is what all 60Hz FHD 15.6" laptops with no dGPUs weighed.. a measly 671 square centimetres

The way I see it, for an extra 100grams, not only am I getting 742 square centimetres + a dedicated (albeit, pretty average) GPU
          I'm getting WQHD 2560 × 1440 = 3686400 @ 120Hz = 442Million (glorious 350nit) pixels/sec blasted at my face

          no choice-supportive bias here..

          • +5

@Jaspa7: I travelled the world as a digital nomad for 3 years with just carry on luggage, every grams counts when you have to pack your entire life in a backpack :)

            • +9

@tabboy: I guess this isn't a laptop for all the digital nomads on here

  • is there a touchscreen option?

    • If there was a touchscreen option they would make it super clear and obvious they have it

  • +1

It’s a great deal for someone that doesn’t want to have dedicated GPU. Previously they were charging $350 for rtx 3050 and now it’s $850.

    • and $700 for the 1650…that is insane…
Though if you choose the option with the 1650 as base (+$180), you can still add the 3050 for +$150…

      • Yeah that might be better. I recently bought it for $1400 with 3050 and 60hz screen. So waiting for it to arrive.

      • $2195 for the ryzen 9 with 32GB RAM
        RTX 3050 and 120Hz display.

    • You need to customise the model with the 1650 already in it for $1300 and then the upgrade to the 3050 is a lot cheaper.

  • The CPU there in the link is AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600H, not AMD Ryzen 7 5800H ?!

    • +2

Config to Ryzen 7 by selecting customise.

  • Maybe yeah for touch screen

  • Any reviews on IdeaPad 5 Pro 14ITL6 ( https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/austudentbeans/au/en/austudentb… ) ??? After upgrading the memory to 16GB Soldered DDR4-3200 and using code, it comes down to $1182 from $1594.

Just looking for general home use, no gaming, probably bit of software programming. Happy for alternate recommendations if any out there.
    Thanks

  • Can it power 2 external 4K monitors? Or may be two QHD monitors using a USB hub?

  • how does it compare to the ideapad s540 we saw posted earlier

    • +1

Previous Gen 4800u processor, smaller(13.3 inches) and 300 nits screen. But there is no wait time I think.

      • Would any other upgrades besides the ryzen 7 5800 be recommended? im thinking of the one with 1650 gpu and upgrading it to 3050 and 120htz screen for light gaming would it make a big difference? im not too sure with specs

        • The main difference is the screen size, 13.3 inch and 16 inch are different animals altogether, in terms of whether upgrading to 120hz and the 3050 would make much difference, for gaming you'll notice the difference if you push above 60 frames, and for things like browsing you'll notice a slight bump in smoothness. Decide whether you want a 13.3 or 16 inch laptop and there's your answer!

          • @mediumjon: thanks guys i decided to get it with the perks and just settle for a office laptop if it doesn't suffice for light gaming

        • I went full fat for the Ryzen 9 (partly to get 32GB RAM, otherwise not much benefit of the Ryzen 7, RTX 3050, 120Hz Display but only 512GB SSD (as the $400 jump to 1TB is just nuts) But if you don't need 32GB the Ryzen 7 is plenty enough. Typing this on a Lenovo Ryzen 7 4800U.

    • The S540 is also lighter, if that matters to you - 1.3kg vs 1.9kg).

  • This is crazy deal.

  • Phenomenal deal.

I bought IdeaPad Slim 5 a few weeks ago it's a lot of laptop for the money.
I wish this one had dedicated GPU though.

  • +1

Bought it from the last deal with maxed out specs to 32ram and 5900hx. Once I took it out of the box I realized it's way too heavy for portability. It's a workstation laptop to replace your PC.

  • Actually if you go for 82L5CTO1WW you can get Dedicated GPU version
And maybe get the 5600H instead and save some money

    Processor : AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600H (6C / 12T, 3.3 / 4.2GHz, 3MB L2 / 16MB L3)
    Operating System : Windows 10 Home 64
Memory : 8 GB Soldered DDR4-3200 (should get 16 instead)
Hard Drive : 512 GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe NVMe
    Warranty : 1 Year Depot
    Graphics : NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 4GB GDDR6
    Battery : Integrated 75Wh

    • Is the dedicated GPU version - particularly upgraded to 3050 - worth it?

      • It depends
If you want to really game on it you might be better off getting a gaming laptop.

  • Nice deal. Thanks OP

Does this laptop have a sim card slot? Want to use the laptop while out and about without tethering to my mobile

    • +1

      Nope.

      • Thank you
Not having a Sim card slot is a deal breaker. I don't want to connect it to my mobile as I am on a basic phone plan without much data. But I want to get a dedicated sim data plan for the laptop as I know I'll be using data on the laptop

Are there any good laptops with sim card slot?

        • +2

Don't think sim cards are common amongst laptops unless maybe more business orientated laptops might have em.

If you really don't want to connect to your phones hotspot, you can probably get a usb modem where you can insert your sim card that way. There are also portable dedicated battery hotspots

        • +1

I was given a HP EliteBook 840 G5 for work and it has a SIM slot. I haven't tried it but I read that it'll do 4G. The newer G6 also had SIM slots.

I can recommend the Elitebooks, although the matte display on mine is really dim in sunlight. Not great for outdoor use. Super sturdy build though

          • @neme: Thank you

            I'll check it out

    • No simcard slot and no option to add WAN either.

Ordered a Thinkpad P14s Gen 2 for delivery early October yesterday on the edu store with the EDUCOMM code. EDU Store Link

    Ryzen Pro 5850U
    Windows 10 Pro
16GB RAM soldered (and there's an additional slot on this one too according to the reviews - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8wG79Wo8Xs)
    512GB SSD
3 Year Premier Support (you couldn't downgrade the support on this model, it's included effectively as standard)
    300nits 14" FHD IPS screen

    For a total of $1583.10.

Unfortunately the base config can't be configured (yet) as it's a new release. But it's a decent base config. Interestingly the 5650U version (same other specs) is $30 for an end of Sept ship date.

If you're interested in something more Thinkpady (albeit with a shittier screen), this is an absolute cracker of a deal. I have a secondary BenQ PD2700U for all my delicious colour accurate workflow so this suited well. Upgrading from an X250, so this should be a nice little update.

The T14 Gen 2 is basically the same model (apart from not having the same ISV certified drivers like the P series which is super useful for CAD), but once you spec it out with all the extras above, it comes out to be quite a bit more, although you can upgrade the screen on it instead. So basically take a look and see where your priorities lay. Tacking on the same warranty and CPU (and RAM) to the base T14 Gen 2 brings it to about $50 more than the P14s Gen 2 (or with standard 1yr warranty $155 cheaper), but you only get 256GB SSD and Windows Home with this config on the T14 for that sort of price (you can upgrade further but $$). If you are planning to upgrade those to something else, this could be an option as well for some.

    • its pity..they dont have AMD in 15 inch. I ordered P15s, it was in stock. but having thermal issues. Trying for refund.

      • A note for others, the T14s has a single heatpipe, whereas the regular T14 has a dual heatpipe (but smaller battery). The P14s/15s both have dual heatpipes, so it shouldn't be the cooling solution on those. What Intel CPU did you get?

        • 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 32GB 512 GB. Having heat sink and Fan issues. Thats what support guys said anyway.

    • Correction: Interestingly the 5650U version (same other specs) is $30 more for an end of Sept ship date.

  • Best offer I could get from Lenovo chat on their regular store was $1480.

$1170 This is a great price from the education store.

  • Ordered this a few days ago and got an expected arrival date of October 19.

  • +1

What are people's thoughts on getting the 3050 GPU version? Worth the money?

    • Don't think its worth the asking price right now, about $1389 for a 5600H/16GB/RTX 3050/60Hz panel or $1569 for a 5800H/16GB/RTX 3050/120Hz panel.

The Dell G15 5515 with a 5600H/8GB(user upgrade-able RAM)/RTX 3050/120Hz panel has been on sale for $899 before and despite the 5515 120Hz display being a turd, I don't think this is worth nearly $450 more (about $100 to upgrade to a 120hz panel with Lenovo vs paying $50 for a 8GB stick of RAM).

    • I've ordered the 1650.
The 3050 here is only 35 Watts. I think that's the lowest powered variety. I don't think there'd be that much difference to 1650. A higher powered 3050, say 80 Watts beats it by 35% maybe.

  • Someone linked a v2 model from Singapore in previous deal with a 3060 so I wonder if a new model is coming soon.

  • Thermals?

    • This is not DELL.

  • Bought it on the 8th, shipped on the 12th and expected delivery is the 30th. I switched the colour to Cloud Grey.

  • AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H
    3050 4GB GDDR6
    120HZ

coming around $1569. is it worth it,? for rare and occasional gaming and lots of browsing.

    • if you dont mind refurbished laptop, go to acer refurbished gaming laptop and you can get below for $1,499

Acer Nitro 5, Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Nvidia RTX 2060 - Refurbished

      • That looks heavier than this model.

    • Keep in mind the tgp is only 50w so you're not getting the full performance of the card. Also, I don't think the cooling in this laptop is enough for 5800h.

  • This deal is better value that this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/637014

    • YES, 5800H is much more powerful and 16" is a good size for 2k.

  • Thanks OP, ordered one. Crackin' deal

  • +1

Thanks OP! I couldn't resist. I had to buy one w/ the 5800H, 3050 & 120Hz screen. Absolutely perfect for my use.
