https://groupee.com/news/heres-10-to-go-towards-your-post-lo… has slightly different fine print of $20 per head spend, which is different to the email that they sent :(

I'm also not sure what "active user" means? I havn't made any transactions on groupee for a few months, am i an "active user" ? Edit: I sent groupee an email to clarify this

    • Thanks for sharing @kyeh and please let us know what you find

      • +1

I got confirmation of the fine print. The website is the source of truth, not the email.

An active user is defined as a user on the Groupee platform that has completed their onboard (added their funding card to the platform) and has made at least one payment (apart from the payment in the promotion) in the last 6 months.

  • so is it Per head spend must exceed $20 or $10? on the email it says "It doesn't matter if you're paying $10 or $200 a head, Groupee lets you pay your way. " can someone that has received their $10 credit report back please if $10 per head works as i wish to minimize card fees?

      Hi there,

      Jarred founder of Groupee here.

The blurb of the email explains that it doesn't matter the size of the spend, you can use Groupee. This was intended in the general sense.

In the case of the promotion, the T&C explain you will need to spend $20 per head to be eligible.

Any questions, email us at [email protected]

      Thanks!

  • No android app?

    • +1

they have android app but its crap doesnt work most of the time best initiate group from iphone first.

      • Do you have a link to it in the play store? Can't seem to find it

  • +1

i had it already installed early in the year, so maybe now no longer i get error best contact groupee and ask and let them know it doesnt work via their website ref https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.groupee

  • done it on an old a iphone se its hard to read screen a very poor app design. so i did a $40 split. paid a .52 cent fee each. so now have to wait for the $10 credit but only the host will get the credit? so can the other person also be host afterwards and split with another person to get $10 themselves?

  • i did a $40 split so that doesn't exceed $20 each? if anyone has received their $10 credit please report back here and tell us how much you spent?

I made a transaction soon after their original email, based on the T&Cs in their email. A week later they changed the footer of their email with different terms, including the $10pp minimum. After contacting them, they refused to honour the terms they originally sent.

They have done dodgy stuff like this more than once in the past too; it’s no longer worth dealing with them when they are sketchy like this.

      Hi there,

      Jarred founder of Groupee here.

Our T&Cs are always on our website. We display them here for people to find out the information related to any promotion we run.

Please know that we always honour our promotional payouts when people are using Groupee for it's intended purpose. We can often see when people are not using the platform correctly (in this case for purchasing goods for a picnic).

Groupee will reward every legitimate transaction related to this promotion.

Groupee will not honour rewards for users who make micro payments simply to trigger a reward payout, especially when there's no attempt to buy supplies for a picnic.

      • Hi Jarred. I would have bought the picnic if the promo credit had ever been credited on time for the weekend, in accordance with the original T&Cs you sent out. The amount of my transaction was designed to be precisely the amount needed for a picnic lunch with my partner after the promo was applied.

The idea that Groupee customers have to read your emails, read the T&Cs in them, and then go “ah, there might be some unmentioned T&Cs on Groupee’s website that contradict the section labelled T&Cs the cofounder just sent me” is absurd. At best it’s extremely naive business practices, at worst it’s dodgy.

And now, as punishment for complaining, they are threatening to terminate my account and take my account credit if I don’t use it in time. What lovely people.

          It doesn't work that way.

The credit is to reward users for using Groupee to pay for their picnic using our service, paid out after it's taken place. It's not for us to pay for 2 items you haven't even purchased yet. No reasonable user would think the promotion works that way.

As we said to you in the email, you have more than 12 months to use the credit on your Groupee card - we are not taking anything away from you, just your ability to use the service exclusively for promo payouts - which I am within my rights to do as operator of Groupee.

          • @jarredb: “ we'll send you $10 to the host to go towards your picnic.”

Seems pretty reasonable to assume that it’s to spend on the picnic, given that’s literally what you wrote

@bluecoral: I consider my response adequate and this matter settled.
