Breville Bambino Plus Espresso Machine (Black Truffle) $361 + Delivery / C&C @ The Good Guys Commercial (Membership Required)

90

Deal is back in stock: as before - I picked one up in the last deal posted by flyingforward and it has definitely made me even more a snob than before woohoo!

Flyingforward: “not the best price I've seen for this model ($319ish a year ago?) but still pretty good considering it's retailing around $509+
Lots of good features like pre-infusion, automatic milk steaming (temp & texture), auto purge, back flush, 3 sec heat up time, etc.
At this price, it's a good unit to start out with and explore home coffee.
I've bought myself a 54mm single wall (non pressurised) double basket to use instead of the included pressurised double wall baskets.

Pair it up with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro ($249 @ TGGC) and you've got a decent set up (I've gone with Baratza Sette 270).
The Bambino Plus is a capable unit, allowing you flexibility of choice for grinders.

Happy lockdown!”

Where is the deal? This is usual price on the TGGC site.
Got one for <320 last year, was around 340 when I last checked and now 360.

You have the wrong site, this is OzBackinstock

      • You've been hiding under a rock if you haven't heard of the Breville price rise.

May I please also borrow your Delorean next time?

One correction Breville Smart Grinder Pro is at 249 @ TGGC

    • Updated thanks

  • This is 100% the gateway to upgradetis - do it

  • This machine has a thermoblock for heating water, https://azcd.harveynorman.com.au/media/wysiwyg/product/featu…

It will work ok for a few years (although it will never give repeatable results, it's just not temperature stable enough), but it will eventually clog completely from scale. If you plan on upgrading eventually, I'd rather get a used HX machine on gumtree.

    • Furthermore with lack of pressure gauge in consumer machines is terrible omission as no OPV adjustment and they are not set correctly. Although my barista express has pressure gauge, I found to get 18 in / 36 out in 30 sec was extremely difficult and necessitate extremely high pressure which resulted in bitterness. I just managed to do mod after 2.5 years of use and now pressure works like a charm (9bar) with sweet taste espresso. Very happy with result.

      • If you're already modding your Barista Express, I'd say you're ready for an upgrade. Have you seen the first gen Oscar? They're quite upgradeable; https://www.elektros.it/au/en/Oscar_modification_Kit/

        • Thanks for the link, I was about to pull the trigger to buy nice new machine and grinder then I thought to try the mod, did not cost me $, just opened & tweaked the spring. saved myself $3k on a new machine set up till this one breaks down :)

      • IIRC the bambino plus does actually come with a 9 bar OPV

        • Great to know, how did you come to this conclusion, did you measure it or is it mentioned in the manual?

    • Interesting information about the thermoblock, my Bambino lasted 13months, no more heat or pressure to steam. Any tips to prevent this scale build up? I do the normal citric acid clean monthly, maybe it needs something more? Cheers

      • I think a thermoblock design needs the descaler from the manufacturer.

This is a great machine and I love mine.
    2 small things to note:

1- as others have mentioned in other threads - the dual wall basket works well, but get a single wall basket of you want to fine tune your coffee.

2- the plastic insert in the portafilter gets water/coffee trapped under it and will eventually mould. I destroyed the insert when I tried to remove it but it’s easier to clean now. Glad I removed it as it definitely needed a clean underneath.

    • What's the plastic insert for anyway?

      • I read on some other forums that it was meant to keep the temperature better but I haven’t noticed any difference.

It definitely helps smoothen the flow though. Without the plastic the streams are a bit turbulent.

Thanks for the idea. I pulled out the insert today and gave it a good clean out.

  • My main use will be espresso, and will rarely (if ever) make a milk coffee. This, or something else you would recommend. This is also about as much as I would want to pay.

Extend a little deeper into your pocket for something nice like the Gaggia. It will last you much longer and produce better more consistent coffee. Cheaper in the long run considering the life of the machine and you'll be much happier with it.

  • That’s me! Although now I’m looking for a deal with the Breville dual boiler, but they’re mostly bundling with the smart grinder for 1600 now. The machine was so cheap before :(

  • I just recently changed to single-wall and find there's less crema out…am I missing something?

are you using pre-ground coffee or grinding freshly roasted beans? you need to play with grind size to achieve 18gm coffee in and 36ml coffee out in 30 sec. Double wall is more suited to pre-ground coffee as less sensitive, single wall good when you grind freshly roasted beans, but need to get the above ratio / criteria right.

      • I'm using bambino plus so pre-ground coffee. hmmm you're right…will have to be more precise with the weight

  • My bambino plus lasted 13months and now doesn’t steam or produce hot water, cleaned regularly, makes around 3 coffees a day. I just sent back thru good guys for a repair thru Breville.

I recently bought for the same price. It’s a gokd machine with configurable shot duration etc. I also bought a single wall basket. I am now trying to adjust doze/time etc

I am using 21.5g coffee and making 60g coffee 1:2.7 ratio. The taste is good. The extraction time is 27-30 sec. I understand the golden extraction time is 30 sec and golden ration is 1:2 or 1:2.25 if I try this my extraction time is not coming close to 30 sec. I tried tamping real good.

21.5g—-> 60g coffee in 30 sec is best I can do.

    • Wow must be big basket to take 21.5gm! but if you happy with the taste then no big deal about time, you can try to stop the shot at 45g out and see if taste improve and don't worry about the time. Also if you grind finer it will help to increase the time, unless you use pre-ground coffee.

      • I’m with you. I have a SGP. On a different machine and 53mm basket I was using 13-14 sec grinding, now using 16.4+ sec. It’s a lot of coffee but otherwise after tamping coffe settles too low for Breville’s so called precision blade’s reach. And my grind setting is 13. I tried 11, then I have to grind for 17 sec to fill the basket.

        • it is 52mm basket.

I normally grind half amount then shake/tamp ground coffee, then grind the other half. I would only fill basket after tamping till precision blade depth to leave some room for pre-infusion. If you not getting 30s for 45g out, then try grind setting to 10 or even less (hopefully does not choke machine).
