  • I have an AMD mobo with ram that is XMP 2.0 supported which is an Intel specification so it might not work on your AMD system.
It could be specific to each type of motherboard, so best to do a little research.

Really ?? Wasting $200 on 2666 ram when ddr 5 is coming out..

    • +4

Right! Everyone who needs more RAM capacity should just wait for the privilege of paying through the nose to change over their whole platform so they can buy DDR5 at an early-adopter premium…

      • +2

gotta wait for DDR5 RAM to become cheap, then why waste money on that when DDR6 will be just around the corner!

        • yeppers, OP's post was flawed logic, "Why pay 200 for DDR4 when you can pay 800 for DDR 5 on day one?"

Because my system runs on DDR 4, that's why. And have you SEEN the price for building PCS lately? DDR5 kid is delusional. I'm not about to build a whole new system just for DDR 5 until at least 2023.

The better argument would be to promote 3200/3600 for not too much more. DDR5 is going to follow the trend of every other ram release, high upfront price of ram and supporting boards, the board prices will level off after about a year, ram prices about 18 months to 2 years in. DDR4 will drop in price temporarily to clear stock then will gradually rise as less stock becomes common around that 18 months mark.

        Yeah, 32GB of 3200MHz CL16 for $199 from Shopping Express: https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/g.skill-ripjaws-v-32g…

        Much better buy than this.

      • I'm planning to upgrade ade but not in any rush. So mid next year ddr4 will drop temporary? Thank you

      • not to mention the first type of DDR 5 starts as the most expensive and lowest timings, like 2400 was for DDR 4 and costed like 400.

Wait a year and stuff will be more reasonable. Especially in this market, trying to early adopt DDR 5 is like selling your car. wtf.

  • Assuming no sudden supply chain impacts, DDR4 should start dropping not long after the release of DDR5.
