Before anyone says that there's a new version out… it doesn't have an adjustable stand like the old one and for that reason the new one sucks.

    • Agree but from a lot of the reviews of the old one is that the USB cable is too short and not detachable.

      • +8

Cable length is about 1.5m and that's really not too bad. If it's an issue you can get an extension cable for a couple of dollars on eBay.

      • The great thing about usb cables is extensions are cheap? I have multiple spares I've accumulated over the years.

  • pretty good price i think. Too bad I have just bought touch portal a week or so ago….

    • No way you can compare a mobile app to the stream deck… Totally different experience, stream deck being leagues ahead…

      • -1

Easier to set up but Lioran Board or other apps are more powerful and far cheaper.

  • Hoping to wait for it to dip below 160 or even 150, wonder if that will happen

    • +2

Would you really wait indefinitely to possibly save another $15?

      • +21

Sometimes it is easier to outsource self-control and willpower.

Don't tell yourself "No - I am not going to buy that", instead tell yourself "I'll only buy it if it drops below [lower price]".

Source: I am my own worst enemy.

        • +3

Nah, I'm with you, you'll be stoked if you buy it for $150. You'll be annoyed if you buy it for $177.50 and it drops to $150. You'll never think about it again if you don't buy it for $177.50 and it doesn't drop to $150.

          • +3

@shortielah: I do agree in a sense so I get where you're coming from. But at the same time, if something drops another $10-$15 months down the track, I normally don't even care. The fun you have with that item in the interim easily offsets that amount. I've come to realise that life is short so you might as well enjoy the things you like and not hold out to squeeze a few extra bucks. Within reason, of course.

I have no idea how much OP actually wants the streamdeck. If it's something like a 4K Bluray of an old movie, I get that. It could wait. But if it's something you're really after and would make your streaming experience better then who honestly cares about the bit of extra money. Especially since it's not even a given it hits your desired price.

            • +2

@pharcyde: I get where you're coming from too. I've definitely overpaid for things as I know they'll bring me joy :).
EDIT: Not saying this item is overpriced, just that's it's above what the other guy is wanting to pay.

        • +7

I've done this for ~20 years and yeah, it's saved me a lot of money on crap I would barely use and would be a waste of money.

For instance I really want an Anbernic RG351V, a handheld game emulator. But I don't really like that many old games, I have the ability to emulate them and a controller to play them on on my PC and I don't do that. But I really want one. So if it goes under $100 I'll buy one (it's normally > $150 AUD). This means I'll probably never buy one, and somehow even though I know I'm tricking myself into not buying it I'm OK with that.

@DonWilson: This is ozbargain.com.au, we do not tolerate talks about self control here.

            • +1

@PuppieWayne: it's less self control and more taking advantage of self delusion.

        • Literally how I work

        • I might start using this.

    • Bird in the hand ………

This is a damn good price - most likely Amazon are just clearing out old stock.

TBH I much prefer the look of the mk2 - way less clunky.

  • Do I need it? Good price though. Thanks op

    • +1

Well I guess it depends on your use case. I personally don't, as I don't stream or need a touchpad/keypad to access apps, controls, etc.

      • I like the macros but I’m rarely on a pc these days

  • The best uses i have for it so far are:
    - visually laid out tool icons in zbrush
    - triggering npm tasks in vscode
    - icon based spotify playlists and controls. The sporitdy icons are smart in that they can show playing album art and track details / elapsed time

The software is amazing and supports a usb switch dock, so i use my streamdeck between my gaming desktop and work laptop.

This older model is half the price of the XL but i dont expect the XL to be twice as useful.

    Hope this helps!

    • +1

Dammit just bought one based on this hah

    • Thinking of getting something like this for the same uses - just really unlikely that I'm going to be able to install the software on my work laptop which is a shame.

    • Music composers and producers adore the Stream Deck XL. There are some fantastic icon & layout decks for Cubase and Sibelius that are tremendously efficient.

  • +2

Thanks OP want to buy it now even though I don't know what it does. Ozbargainer

    • +1

It provides an easily configurable, tactile graphical interface for hotkeys, macros, shortcuts, frankly whatever you want to use it for… I've got volume controls, screen brightness, shortcuts, macro buttons, etc. You can also auto switch button layouts on application triggers, etc.

Frankly it's one of those genuinely great products you never realised you needed until you have it and start using it.

    • I've now read a couple of explanations and still have no idea. Lol.

      • Buttons that you can make do pretty much whatever you want, with little LCD displays behind them so you can customise the graphics displayed for each button.

        • +2

I guess it makes sense. Thanks. I'm clearly not a streamer. I'm old enough to remember when they were only things you put up at parties. :)

  • +1

Seeing what streamers are making, I too should quit my job and stream instead.

  • +2

Is good for Flight Sims, I got the 32 keys last month from UK Amazon store too, it saved just over AU$100 for me. Very happy with it so far.

    • Yeah gutted I missed that one, I have been waiting for a sale on the XL since the EB Games sales last year. Don’t need one, just a want.

What else are you using your for?

      • +2

Mainly use for msfs at the moment, and trying to set it up for DCS, because I only received in late September, only under 3 weeks, so still very new to me. I downloaded some files made by other people and using Lorby's AAO to communicate with msfs, however, it doesn't work and took me nearly two weeks to figure out because the port 9080 was suggested for the stream deck and AAO was used by logitech's GHub. Even until today, have assigned a different port, stream deck wouldn't communicate with msfs, only port 9080 works, so I had to shut down the GHub each time I start up the SIM.

        • +6

I have never understood anything less than this

          • +14

            @fivespice: I think:

            • They're using the Stream Deck to control Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (MSFS) currently, and trying to get it working with Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) as well.

            • They found a Stream Deck profile that somebody else shared online - perhaps this one on flightsim.to.

            • The Stream Deck profile they downloaded requires using an extension/plugin for Microsoft Flight Simulator
called "Axis And Ohs" ("AAO"), created by "LORBY".

            • When you're setting up the AAO Stream Deck plugin to work with Microsoft Flight Simulator, it will ask which network port number should be used for connection. The documentation says you should select port 9080.

            • They discovered that this port was already in use on their computer by Logitech's "G Hub" software (the utility for configuring Logitech's gaming keyboards/mice/etc), so they tried using a different port number in AAO. Apparently that didn't work and it kept trying to use port 9080 anyway.

            • Their current workaround is to fully close Logitech G Hub on their PC before opening Microsoft Flight Simulator, if they want to use their Stream Deck's buttons to control the simulator.

            • +4

@cjmac: I need someone like you to translate stuff one of my colleagues says! He speaks exactly like evildog types.

        • GHub is such a pain. Was actually the reason I ended up swapping to a Redragon mouse in the end

          • @Carnal: I like Redragon stuff, the software and finish is not perfect but great value for what they offer. I have Vishnu, Draconic (great to travel with) and Diti keyboards.

  • Thank you! Nearly bought a Mk2 for $100 more last week, much happier with this deal :)

  • +3

Shameless cut and paste from the last deal:
I've commented on my love for these before. I've got 2 x 15 button units and an XL.
They look after my 5 data projectors, sound console, 2 vision switchers, two matrix video hubs, 5 mac computers running presentations and playback software, and motorised house curtain. Managing this stuff as a single operator at times would have been overwhelming but the streamdecks (using Companion software) have transformed my workflow and ability to do multiple tasks with a single button press. It also allows me to preset complex technical tasks that can be easily controlled by non tech staff. They have been a complete gamechanger for me.

    • +1

Is this at work or your McMansion?

I want an XL to play with, no idea what to use it for. Thanks for sharing!

    • Actually whilst you're there. Did you organically buy all 3 devices over time or is there a logical reason why you have 2x 15 button units and an XL vs. just two XLs?

      • +1

        Hi MB,
I use these for work in a venue I look after. I started with a 15, found the XL to be great for specific events with the additional buttons available without scrolling. The third 15 button lives at the stage end of my venue for other staff to be able to access simple presets without needing to touch equipment they don't know how to operate :-)
Automation at home is pretty minimal - plumbers tap syndrome :-D

  • Has anyone used these for WFH VC? I want to get one to program controls for my constant Zoom meetings, ie mute/video mute/share screen etc.

    • +2

There is a user made Plugin for that. Not sure why the low rating, but you should be able to customise it from there.

      • +2

you don't even need a plugin, just map the shortcuts to keys. This plugin just makes it easier by having the shortcuts identified rather than you having to work them out.

        • Thanks for the replies guys, will get one!

  • +2

even better, use this with Home Assistant to control your smart home environment.

    https://github.com/cgiesche/streamdeck-homeassistant

HA for those who aren't aware is home automation software to control just about every vendor with IFTTT like actions. I'm probably not doing it justice to explain it, its very cool.

    https://www.home-assistant.io/

anyway i bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and I'm going to use it in HA.

    • Exactly what I'm getting it for too!

  • +1

Am I right in assuming this requires software to be installed to use?

i.e. I can't use with my locked down work computer?

    • +1

Yep, won't work without the software.

      • Cheers for confirming

  • +1

Aha , that’s what the day trading in USA uses for live streaming !! Thx Op for the posting

  • For any future comments, this version and the newer version have the exact same LCD, and buttons. They age from use (e.g screen gets dimmer, different feeling buttons), but with the latest software, they now have screensaver mode, and dimming, so this wouldn't need to be a concern.

  • $171.89 right now.
