After days of hard negotiation with Dell, I’ve managed to finalise a few deals. Got some good deals this time on gaming desktops and laptops that will be posted soon!

In the meantime, I got this monitor down to the same price as the last eBay sale.

Also got the Inspiron 15 2-in-1 Laptop down to $1124.55 (apply promo code FREEDOM45).

Not sure if the promo code will stack with cashback but you might be able to get a further 1.5% cash back through your preferred provider.

(Don’t think I’ve written this much in a post for a while!)

Waiting for a deal on dell U4320Q…

  • Thanks OP, grabbed a monitor, couldn't resist the price

  • 2-in-1 laptop is out of stock.

    • Still available for me . The i5 version anyway.

  • +1

I've been thinking about replacing my 2x 27" QHD 165hz Screens with one big 34" Widescreen.
My worry is how well they scale with all games (I don't want the black bars on the side) and if pixel density a lot worse than 27" QHD?

    • 99% of games I've played have a 3440x1440 resolution setting. The 1% was like an indie pixel game.

  • Are there any coupon codes that work on eBay?

  • Awesome! been waiting for this to go on sale! thanks for your hardwork!!

  • Too tempting….but should hold for 32" gaming monitor above with Nvidia G-SYNC. only logic to not on jump on one. Great price though.

  • How does the 34" look with lower resolutions? Currently gaming on a GTX 770….kinda worried it will make all the games I currently play, unplayable lmao - Overwatch/Starcraft 2/

    • +2

You'd almost certainly be in for a bad time with that card at this res and aspect ratio…

Also, Starcraft 2 doesn't actually support ultrawide which is a total bummer. Understandable for competitive play I guess, but still sucks if you just want to enjoy the game casually as it would be great on an ultrawide monitor.

      • Dam…Maybe I will just go down the path of consoles - seems to be the cheaper alternative

      • Any good for movie watching?

        • +1

Should be great for most movies - the aspect ratio avoids the black bars that you'd otherwise have with widescreen videos and it has good contrast and black uniformity.

Curved screens are best suited to sitting front-on though so it might be suboptimal for watching movies with a group of friends sitting at different angles. Even then though, it's probably not that much of a drama.

Also the viewing angle limitations of VA panels tend to be overblown imo - I'd much prefer a little colour washout when viewing VA from an angle than having difficult to ignore IPS glow and low contrast ruining dark scenes regardless of where I'm sitting.

  • Oh my god should I have not purchased the Dell monitor that was previously on promotion a while ago?

  • Thanks @dealbot :D

  • Really liking the S3422DWG, picked it up for $495.20 on the eBay deal awhile back. Looks good on modern games, getting good FPS. And split screen is nice with the work laptop on HDMI and PC on DisplayPort.

adding 7% student discount on 15 inch 2 in 1 laptop will bring the price down to $1,278.23.

    Haven't tried it on Windows.

    • Do you have HDR turned on? Seems to screw it up for me

      • Got it set on HDR - Desktop, works fine

  • Damn last Nov paid for the same price for 32inch now already 34inch same price

    • If it makes you feel better, 32" 16:9 displays are 1.3% larger in area than 34" 21:9 ones :P

Jokes aside though having owned both they're both great and it mostly comes down to your preference and requirements, e.g. I went back to my 31.5" for gaming as the 34" just felt too short in comparison, but for work I prefer the 34" ultrawide.

      • Hey, for work, was the text crisp like in IPS monitors? Would like to replace my 27" IPS gaming for this VA 34" ultra wide.
I understand height wise, 34" will be simlar to 27", its the additional width we get from these 34" monitors.

        • +1

Yes, the text should be just as crisp - the main factor that determines this is pixel density, and WQHD @ 27" 16:9 is basically identical in that regard to UWQHD @ 34" 21:9.

Some folks argue that scrolling text looks better on IPS screens (particularly white on black background), but that really depends on which screens you're comparing and honestly isn't a worry at all unless you're using an absolute bottom-of-the-barrel VA panel, which this one is not. For context, I stare at terminal output and code for many hours a day.

  • Hi All,

Would this laptop heat up and have noisy fan, while doing normal work, not gaming. I ask as I have an old HP which heats up quickly and has a very noisy fan.

    thanks for your help.

  • Anyone know the pixel response time on this monitor? Also lmk if there are any smearing. I'd hate to have to see VA smears again.

  • +2

Can confirm it stacked with the student discount code and code Dell sent after you made a purchase for $65. Perhaps there are people out there kind enough to share their $65 discount code after the purchase. ShopBack has 1.5% cashback on monitor too.

The total price is $445.57 for me.

    • Doh..the email with the code I got said i couldnt be used with other offers. Hmm

      • You have been misguided Will

      • +1

Mine said that too, but it worked.

    • So if i want to buy 2 screen i should order them separately then i can use the 65 on the second purchase.. but then i assume i will pay for shipping again..

  • I can't speak for other Mac users but I bought and returned the s3422dwg before as I was experiencing pretty severe case of what looked like to be vertical scanlines that were visible when I moved my head and blinked to the point where it became annoying. Turns out that some people on reddit had similar issues. I was using a usb-c to hdmi adapter but displayport might have fixed it. At the end I just got the Xiaomi ultrawide.

    • +2

Using DisplayPort, no issues (so far).
I did try hdmi, the mac didn't seem to like it. Couldn't get the proper resolution, it wouldn't go past 1080p for some reason. Didn't bother more with it since everything worked fine with the DisplayPort cable.

      • I tried both. Had intermittent black screen flickering. So am currently awaiting replacement. Before the Dell I had the xiaomi which never had issues. So I'm a bit gutted that the "superior' was not effective.

      • I just got my monitor and am having the same issue with my Mac and HDMI. Couldn't find any fixes online but thought to check the thread here and you may have just saved me a bunch of hassle. Will try DisplayPort. Thanks, truly appreciate it

  • how long will this promotion last?

    • Until today I think

      • Would also like to know when exactly because I'm still 50/50 if I should take 2 or not haha

        • I would rather get a bigger one instead of 2. You will get annoyed with the frame in the middle.

          • @khey: Currently running a 49" but splitting it into 2 when working in the day and back into 1 at night but game only as if it was a 34". So I'm looking at getting 2x 34" stacked on top of each other or a 34" and a 27" next to each other. Think I'm getting 2 34's and if it doesn't work out stacked I'll trade my kid with a 34 for his 27 Gigabyte which looks very similar so..

  • If someone would be willing to share their post-purchase coupon code, I'd be forever grateful; Been looking to purchase this monitor for months.

    • Let's form a queue :) I'll reshare mine after I bought one

    • +1

I think you only get it when you bought a laptop. I bought one and didn’t get any voucher.

  • Bugger… Literally bought a 27" 144Hz monitor from Dell last week and it was only $30 cheaper.
Then again, I might not end up with the 27" considering StarTrack can't locate the package!

  • Anyone have an email code from purchasing they won't be using?

  • +7

FYI. I ordered yesterday and I just got a message that the Monitor has just been shipped today (14 Oct 2021). And it's expected to be delivered tomorrow.

    • Yes, same with me - i thought i'd be in for the long haul!

    • Received my monitor today (15 Oct 2021).

  • thanks just ordered monitor

  • My order is due to arrive tomorrow, ordered yesterday.

    • Same with me

  • Just ordered 2 (seperate transacitons) and they are only coming at 20 Nov… Speaking to a sales guy now and said it is what it is

    • Is that the monitor or laptop?

      • +1

Bought 2 34" monitors. When i chatted to the guy online he said there's no stock and that is the lead time. Hoping it will come sooner but still a long time to wait.

        • Damn i just bought one. hopefully that isn't the case…

          • @obit11: I think it is just tgeir standing lead time and surely it should be a bit faster but how much is the question haha.

            • @RenVilo: Called them and turns out mine shipped today even though it says November.

            • @RenVilo: Mine just got shipped this afternoon

    • I ordered mine a few hours after this post went up, received a message saying it was shipped today, ETA according to the tracking is tomorrow

    • Just ordered myself and I’m getting 23rd November. If it’s going to be that long I’ll probably cancel.

  • I think the sale has ended

  • +2

Just an update.. date of delivery was 20 Nov on 1 my order and 23 Nov on the other even after talking to the sales team online.. but I just got a notification that my 1 order is on it's way and will be here on Tuesday

  • for those who ordered, what's your ETA? just curious

    • oh my bad, saw some recent comments. was wondering if the ETA was faster than the previous deal

Offer still valid, just ordered at 11:30 today for $510.75 with student discount.
Paid by PayPal Plan 4x$127.65. Thanks all…

  • VA Ultrawide - really wanted to love this monitor. Sadly if you like Space sims (stars dissapear when you move the FOV) or are bothered by it, the black smearing is still not fixed. Also for desktops, same issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_v_pbEGDYY

    • Monitor in that review is different.. does the same happen to this 34"? Really hope not coz that is a really sht display. Would be very sad if this screen has this display. Would try and send it back or just sell it asap haha

      • Unfortunately, it appears so.

        https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/s3422dwg

https://www.misteruplay2016.com/dell-s3422dwg-review/ appears to believe it isn't too bad.

All VA Panels currently exhibit some degree of black smearing & motion flickering, with the exception of (seemingly) Samsung G7 and G9 models. Hopefully the tech will trickle down from AUO panels that are coming in. This might be a Samsung SVA panel.

I kept almost pulling the trigger on this one but am super concerned about this. Loving immersion & space sims, am worried that there will simply be a point where it needs to be returned.

Hopefully others can chime in, but current feelings are it'll be similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SxJerJQdGg which is unacceptable for those sensitive to changes in brightness.

Only options really are saving to buy the Odyssey G9, go with IPS, or no be bothered by it, if it exists in the current crop.

        • I appreciate the comment but I can't take that as a test.. the quality of the recordings seems to have a big impact as well. It seems to be updating as he moved and even the text is super bad. I have the Samsung 49" QHD which is a VA panel and I don't see any black smearing. I was on the fence with the dell as I bought my kid a 1080 about a year ago which was crap and replaced it with a qhd gigabyte. Checking rtibg they claim this dell is better than both my sammy and the gigabyte.. so decided to take it and see.. first screen to arrive on tuesday and second not even confirmed yet. If it is sht I'll sell the one and cancel the other if possible.

For those who got theirs, have you experience anything as bad as in the video above?

          • +1

@RenVilo: Agreed, can't take a different video as gospel, so take it with a grain of salt. In my understanding Samsung might have overcome some of these limitations. Would be fascinated to know whether this impacts this Dell, a video and/ or your experience once unpacked would be extremely helpful.

  • 240hz?

  • I bought this last week..Dell was supprrrr quick to deliver…just in 2 business days..

However on resolution 3440 x 1440 i can only get 59/60hz.. i tried DP as well..has anyone been able to get more than 60hz?

    Thanks

    • Could be a limitation of your video card, do you know which one you've got?

    • That is really quick.

Have you tried using DP instead of HDMI?

Do you have a second monitor connected?

Also, do you see any black smearing at 60 hz (as in the above post / youtube link)? Would appreciate opinions.

      • I have got intel UHD 620 graphics card on my device..
I have tried DP as well but no luck..

Also I don't play games just bought it for work so havent really noticed any smearing.

        • Not an expert but this could be the issue.

Looks like it might be difficult to output the bandwidth for your UHD 620:

"144hz refresh rate with 1920x1080p resolution (or higher) can only be achieved with any of the following outputs due to bandwidth requirements:

          HDMI 2.0
          DisplayPort 1.2
          DVI-D (dual-link rate)

Intel drivers only offer support for DVI-D single-link rates."

          https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000…

Looks like max bandwidth might be 7.92 Gbps, so you could do Full HD @ 120 Hz, but no higher.

Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm not accurate.

Also, do you notice any smearing on a black background with white text? This is the real test for the monitor. ( https://preview.redd.it/6g0hnj9lymj61.gif?format=mp4&s=c9a1a… )

          • @MiniMyna: It seems like i can only have 120hz on my device on 1920x1080 resolution..on 3440×1440 I can only have 60hz..seems like a technical limitation :(

Wish I had known it before..I tried macbook as well but mac doesnt act well as well..I can only get 1920x1080 on Mac..

I will check the smearing issue and post it back here soon.

            Thanks for your help.

            • @Fordeals: You're welcome. Looking forward to the assessment.

              • @MiniMyna: I have checked this and seems like i am having similar smearing issues…but i dont have IPS panel monitor next to this screen so cant compare

                • @Fordeals: Sorry to hear that. RenVilo found that if you change it to the Standard profile, it can improve dramatically, does that help?

    • +1

Try changing the cable. Cable that came with the screen does the same on my PC. Changed it to my old display port cable and running 120hz now.

      • 120hz and 3440×1440 ?

  • Just pulled the trigger and bought one. Was originally planning to get a Gigabyte M32Q for its KVM but for the same price this seems slightly better and I can always get an external KVM. Only downside seems to be the shipping/stock level.. currently says In Production and estimated ship date of Nov 22. Not sure I would have pulled the trigger having known the delays…

    • +1

edit: nevermind - the date on the picking slip seems to be grossly inaccurate, just got an SMS that it's with the courier (startrack) today and should arrive tomorrow.
Now lets hope I have enough space on my desk for it!

    • I reckon S3422DWG also have bult in KVM function as well as it is supported by Dell Display Manager.

Just got mine shipped out today as well……seems like Dell is really conservative on it est. delivery date.

      • there's only a single upstream USB port - at least that's what I'm referring to by KVM. And turns out only the Windows version of DDM seems to work with the monitor.. the mac version refuses to connect to it.

        • that being said… I did manage to use ddcctl instead to control the input so guess DDM isn't really needed after all on Mac.

  • mine just arrived.. It is now hooked up next to my 49" Sammy.. Screen does look clean but testing it now. UFO test has a max of 63 fps for some reason. Running a 6700XT so…

  • +1

Ok, so I can confirm the cable I got with the Dell screen is SHT!!! I can't go over 63 fps on UTO test. Using my Display Port Cable it goes 120hz without any issues. Tried everything with the stock cable. Not sure if this will be for all of the cables that comes with the screen but I mine sucks.
