Truggy version of well-reviewed HBX 16889a Pro: https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/hbx-16889a-pro-review…

Supposedly exactly the same as the HBX 16889a Pro, but with different wheels and body/wing.

Geared for acceleration, not top speed. Unlikely to go over 40km/h, but plenty fast enough for bashing. Long run time, no heat issues, and supposedly low maintenance. From all reports, it should be tough enough to survive my 6 year old.

Currently being ozbargained on quadifyrc's facebook group.

Mine arrived yesterday evening, 2 batteries. Very fast - lots of fun.

    • Finally got mine. Tried opening it but found all the parts and bits slightly intimidating. Any tips on how to get started?

      • How do you mean, mate? It should just be a matter of staying in a battery, plugging it into the car, whacking some batteries in the controller, turn both on and you're away.

        • Thanks. I took more time to study the manual and in the end was able to fit the headlights and rear spoiler.

Got it running in the end, this car is bloody fast!

  • Is anybody else having trouble with the slider to change trigger behaviour? I want to squeeze the trigger to move ahead but it goes in reverse regardless of the position of the switch. Also glitches and randomly keeps going on sometimes even when there’s no input.

  • Got this last Friday. My 144001 is faster and more stable than this car. But it is still a good buy.

    • +1

Yep, 144001 is probably a little bit faster in stock form and is also nicer to drive (handles better), but this car is definitely a better basher. It takes much more punishment than a 144001 can handle. The FC600 also runs about 300 degrees cooler than the lava pit that is the stock 144001.

Mine just arrived at the door - 8pm on a Sunday night is some serious courier dedication 😎

    • Nice. Enjoy.

Took mine out on the weekend for its first bash. Because of it’s acceleration it’s a bit of a handful on a gravel road. It’s a lot of fun paired with a jump made from a cardboard box https://youtu.be/0nCBicbkOrA
and also going through muddy puddles.

    • It definitely is a handful. The guys on the facebook groups looking to put bigger motors into these are mad men, IMO.

  • Anyone else still waiting for theirs?

    • Still waiting in Melbourne. Last update was 28/10 saying parcel in transit in Melbourne.

        Finally arrived this morning

        • Great! Still waiting 😣 PFL emailed me and said they need to do a depot search to find it…

  • Mine arrived today, also wrapping up for Christmas

  • I received mine. Now thinking about getting another (or similar, since this deal has expired), because 2 > 1. Any recommendations?

It seems like FC600s won't be sold again, according to Quadify. So if you want another one you'll have to source existing stock. Aliexpress did have some - check my link on page 1 of these comments. Otherwise you'll have to look at the HBX 16889a Pro, which this car is a rebrand of. You'll find it on Banggood but it's a fair bit more expensive.

In terms of alternatives, it depends what you want. The WL Toys 144001 is a good little RC car at around the same price point as the FC600. It's a bit different, though. It has a brushed motor (not as reliable as brushless and uses more power - batteries don't last as long) but it's a bit faster than the FC600, is nicer to drive (handles much better - lower centre of gravity etc means it's much harder to roll) but is more fragile and can't take the beating the FC600 can. The 144001 is nice to drive on road, too. So if you plan on doing a fair amount of bitumen/concrete driving, it would be a good option. You can bash with it, but it's not as forgiving as the FC600.

My son and I have been racing on our short dirt track at home. He has a 144001 and I have a FC600 and I can't beat him. The 144001 is a really nice little car. But you do need to be prepared to maintain and repair it, more so than the Flyhal. At some point the ESC and/or motor will probably fail and you'll have to decide to replace them or upgrade to brushless for around $100aud. When my 144001 ESC died I decided to give it to my son as a parts car and spend the money on a FC600 instead of upgrading.

As for other alternatives, you could look at the other models in the HBX 16889 range, but they're all inferior to the "a Pro". There are brushed and brushless models at varying prices. You could look at the bigger HBX 901a which Quadify reviewed recently. It's more expensive but bigger and therefore more capable. There are countless WL Toys models, brushed and brushless, that have various strengths and varying prices, but if you want something at around the same price, the 144001 is the obvious option.

What are your thoughts on the Flyhal Q901 Pro RTR 1/16 2.4G 4WD 62km/h Brushless RC Car Vehicles Big Foot Models Toys Two Batteries currently $136.68 on Banggood? It looks to have similar specs and even faster. If it handles like the fc600 then I’d reckon 62kmh is too fast for it.
        It’s a rebranded Xinlehong Q901

That's awesome, thanks. I've been looking at the Flyhal Q901 Pro currently $136.68 on Banggood. It's for my son, so needs to be fairly robust! I'd also like it to be a similar size (to the FC600), though not all 1/16 scale RC cars are the same…

        • Jinx We both posted at the exact same time on the same model😀

          • @bennybaubles: Haha, must be an omen!

            • @rogk: Do I really need it though that is the question. I’m waiting for the tank that someone suggested here to arrive so that my 4 yr old daughter can play as well. This thing is way to fast for her.

              • @bennybaubles: Since when has OZB been about "needs"? :)

Did you see we missed out on the coupon from Quadify, unfortunately.

I might wait another week or so to see if any other deals come up.

                • @rogk: Yeah I tried that $69 us coupon but it’s only for the us warehouse. I definitely would’ve pulled the trigger if that coupon worked.

Like all the Flyhal cars, the Q901 is another rebrand, this time of the Xinlehong Q901. I honestly don't know much about it, but from what I've read it's not in the same league as the HBX cars. There's a little bit of discussion about it here: https://www.facebook.com/quadifyrc/posts/373981231181590

It seems like the diffs aren't the best (the 144001 suffers from that too) and a few other annoyances. But it's apparently decent value for a brushless car. I suspect, like the 144001, you'd have to be prepared to work on it and maintain it more than the FC600. I can't see the Q901 being more robust that a 144001, and a 144001 would be easier to drive.

The advantage of the 144001 is that they're so popular parts are readily available. So many people upgrade them, so left over, 2nd hand stock motors, ESCs etc are easy to come by.

        • I'd suggest something like this might be a better choice https://www.banggood.com/HBX-16889-with-Two-Battery-1-or-16-…

Quadifys review his here. He says it's really tough and great for kids. https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/sg-1602-review-an-exc…

It’s pissing down in Melbourne at the moment so I’m looking forward to taking it to the gravel carpark that has lots of puddles to thrash. This thing takes everything u throw at it. We’re also going to test it at the skate park as soon as the rain stops.

Mine arrived today - in Perth.

These are great, been using for a week or so with the kids, best thing has been the speed dial, means i can use with both a 3 and 6 year old, just turn it down when required.

Also the batteries last longer than you would expect, impressive overall kit for the price.

Just tested it today despite receiving it for a 2 weeks now. Its bloody fast 🚀

    Contacting PF Logistics now

I'd be requesting a refund from Banggood. I find that tends to get things moving quickly.

      • +2

Thanks wombat81 for all your recommendations/reviews etc.
I asked Banggood what was going on Friday and they said to keep waiting.
Also contacted PF Logistics but didn't hear from them.

And… it was delivered today. Took it out for a spin. I've seen the reviews and videos so knew what to expect. But, wow! Still super impressed with this.
Thanks all. I'm a dad and always wanted a decent remote control car but could never afford one growing up. Now both my son and me get to live my dream :)

        • No worries. Glad you're enjoying it.
