New phone being dropped within 2 weeks BUT I DID NOT TELL YOU

    • +3

that's flagship, this is meh, mid range? different market.
      hard to find stock anyway.

    • +11

New phones will be a little bit more than $417 though…

      • +5

I should have added 'maybe thsts why there is a drop in price'.

        Sorry overlords

        • As long as you respect your overlords they will forgive.

      • What's the expected price?

        • googling suggested ~850USD.

        • $599

        • 6: $1250-1350.
          6 pro : $1550-1699.

          • @Mi2: wtf thats more than the s21 ultra

            • @cortex:

wtf thats more than the s21 ultra

Because it's better. That's usually how it works

              • +1

@1st-Amendment: oh didn't realize it was out yet. will look up reviews now. cheers

            • @cortex: That phone has nothing especial except zoom cameras and an unrealistic RRP. Everything else is on par with the rest of competition.
Price for Pixel 6 pro is high but it would get lower but not as low as S21 Ultra.
Samsung profit margin is even higher than Apple if they don't offer discounts because they produce most parts themselves, unlike the rest.
So they can offer huge discounts without an issue.

        • If you have to ask, you can't afford

        • Update: 6 starts from $999 based on latest ad in Australia.

    • +4

It would be nice if they release the Pixel 5a here… I don't want a flagship, I want a budget-mid range phone… But US and Japan only at this stage.

      • Chip shortage.

    • what is this website (c0r3.xyz) ? can I use it for stock levels at other stores? also how? lol

  • +7

    This is actually insane value

    Great camera
    Good performance
    Nice OLED screen
    3 years of OS updates
    Stock android

    • +2

It's actually 2 years left of guaranteed update until August 2023.

Google guaranteed update is rubbish in a way compared to Apple or some Samsung phones.

    • +3

You forgot size, hard to find a small android phone these days, especially under $500.

Phones have been growing, but not pockets and hands :(

      • +1

I wish they'd release a small model as well as an XL. My Nexus 5 was perfect.

      • +2

It's ironic that 20 years ago the race was about making the smallest phone.

        • And even though phones are getting bigger and bigger, now they can't fit things like 3.5mm or Micro SD?

          BS!

    • Battery is crap right?

      • +1

Always lasts a day without an issue for me. I can do 4 hours screen time (it's mainly background docos I swear). Currently sitting at 3:20 hours screen in with 41% remaining

      • All depends what you are using it for. Mine lasts the whole day with minimal use.

  • +5

If someone offered to swap my Pixel 4a for any phone in the world, I wouldn't bother. It's great.

    • +2

      Yeah agreed
It's a great phone that performs well above it's price bracket!

    • +5

      pixel 6?

    • Galaxy S21 Ultra?

      • +1

I've the 21plus version and it's by far te worst mobile phone I've owned

        • can i ask why? was considering purchasing one soon.

          • +1

@relentless: It stutters loading random things. It's slow. It will run super hot for some crazy reason even when all apps are shut down. I just generally am not impressed.

            • +1

@Jakedamusss: wonder if it's a defective unit. did you do a factory reset?

              • @relentless: Yep. Did all the normal resets to try and sort it. For something worth more that a grand, unimpressed. Luckily ozbargin got it to me for free on a Harvey Norman deal a wee while a go.

          • +1

@relentless: I had the S21U .. the Exynos just doesn't have the snappy performance like the Snapdragons ..

Pixel 5 felt more responsive than S21U.

Very happy with Flip3 upgrade from S21U.

    • Until it gets wet. Mine only lasted a few months:(

      • pool wet or just a bit of rain wet?

        • Was a lightening fast toilet dunk, I got it out so quick and only the bottom bit got wet. I know my fault but still a bit surprising it basically killed it.

  • Is this a forum post?

    Where is JV…

  • Pixel 4a vs LG G8s

    • 4a. LG no longer make phones

  • +1

How is the longevity of this phone compared to an Iphone in a similar tier?

Thought of trying it out for all the features compared to an Iphone

    • +3

Which iphone can you buy for $417? DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE.

      • +1

iPhone XR? This deal instantly sold out so I wouldn't consider that the current price of the 4a. XR is selling for $600/$680 for 64GB/128GB @ JB Hi-Fi so it can kinda be considered in the same tier.

        • +1

Pixel 4a is much cheaper with better features than iPhone XR (you pay for the label & inferior: screen, RAM, proprietary USB2 vs USB-C, & many other weaknesses)

    • +4

I know people who are still using the original Google Pixel, and the Google Pixel 2 and they have no complaints.

      • +2

I'm honestly praying for my Pixel 2 to die when the 6 is released, just so I have an excuse to upgrade…

        • I broke my Pixel 5 and and did not want to fix it since the 6 comes out soon but I still need phone for the time being so I bought a brand new Pixel 2 XL and I'm going back and forth on whether I should buy the 6 or not….

        • My Pixel 2 is on its last legs at the moment. Battery starting to give out and I'm encountering more software bugs. Hoping to hop onto the Pixel 6 as soon as that's released (and hopefully that Google store promo code from a couple weeks ago comes through before then).

          • @rith: Haven't had any software bugs myself, but agree on the battery being less than stellar now. Definitely won't last 1 day without charge. Mine's constantly charging though, so I make sure it's nicely topped up. Also, being in lockdown, it was pretty much plugged in all day.

            • @Munki: Can't you just replace the battery? Would be a fun DIY project for the weekend.

      • lol that's crazy there are still active first pixels users, they must take good care of their batteries. I used the first XL until 2019 and have been of 3aXL since.

        • Pixel 1 users getting that sweet unlimited original size photo uploads.

          • @Munki: Didn't Google set a 2-3 year limit on that deal? Or was that to only the newer Pixel phones?

I've been just paying for G-Suite for unlimited backing. Worth the $ I say.

    • +1

What do you mean longevity- some people are still using iPhone 7…no android can match apple software updates for longevity.

But physically and functionally - it can last. And a lot of apps just need android 4.4 (2014) to run but something like Facebook needs android 10 (2019), so software updates might not be an issue, lack of security updates might be a concern depending on the individual.

  • -2

Considering you could get the 3 XL for a similar price from Mobileciti not long ago, this isn’t a bargain IMO.

    • -1

Do you also compare apples with oranges?

      • +2

The Pixel 3 XL is also made by Google.
After that came the 4 and then the 4a.

        • +3

I own the Pixel 5 which I believe is also made by google.

        • Yes but apart from that, they are two different phones.

  • Still love Pixel 3a, going strong. Google should announce Pixel 6a on 20th..

    • I think that'll be next year, rather you have Pixel 5a and 6/ 6 pro

      • Yeah they are unlikely to canabilise flagship sales with a just-as-good-for-most-people model released at the same time.
6 months is enough to get the initial hype out of the way, release the budget model mid cycle which also buys you some additional brand marketing until the 7 comes out 6 months after that.

  • Be aware of some older Pixel phones getting bricked unknown reasons. Don't think it applies to 4a, but definitely applies to the 3 and 3 XL.

    • +1

May be those made by LG, remember LG G4 😉

    • My pixel 3 bricked, sent it off to google and they sent a refurbished one back. Took about a week. It was sort of annoying not being able to swap it in a store and having to mail it off to Hong Kong, but they organized it all. I just had to go to officeworks and print a bunch of paperwork (annoying again)

      • I'm guessing it was under warranty still? My 3XL bricked a couple of months back and it was 2 months out of warranty. Google wouldn't assist and just pushed me to their repairer.

  • Damn missed out well and truly.

    • no you did not. i've checked 1 sec after i saw this post. OOS everywhere in QLD, at least.

      • -1

Before I posted I can add to cart C&C

        • -1

I am the one post the deal so you assume I don't know I can add to cart?

      • OOS everywhere in QLD, at least.

When they allow you to add to cart you can always select which store to pick it up even that stock don't have stock.

You still have no idea how that works.

  • I was very tempted to get the Pixel 3 when I got my last phone (iPhone XS). Will seriously consider a Pixel when I next upgrade in a couple of years

  • +1

$291 now if you can find stock

  • Has anyone found any stock for the $291 deal? I would buy that in a heartbeat, but everyone else probably would as well. I'm guessing they'll never get any new stock in so if they're out of stock then they just won't be selling this phone again?

    • Has anyone found any stock for the $291 deal?

      Only 1 at Orange.

      • I guess I've missed out then, if there was ever any real stock to begin with at that price. I'll sit around waiting for another deal to pop up, hopefully there's still some stock in Australia than some business wants to get rid of.
