Go in for a $100 off service, come out with a new engine and 6 new tyres. They have to meet their KPIs.

    • +5

Don't forget wheel alignment, new wipers and new cabin lights that mysteriously stop working as soon as you drop your car off with them.

      • +1

Got the front tyres changed + wheel alignment before lockdown. Had to go back to them thrice to fix the wheel alignment, and then I finally gave up since they never fixed it and kept coming up with explanations I couldn't understand. This was at Parramatta NSW. Never going back to them.

    • +1

My local has always been good to me.

They even took a tyre off the rim for me for free!

      Maybe service is different.

      • Yeah, likewise. They have never tried to replace anything that hasn't needed to be replaced. Good timing as my my car is due for a MAJOR service and new tyres, so $100 off seems like a good deal for me.

        • +3

They be cheering for your major service massive payday for mycar.

          • @abc: I'll still get a few quotes from Auto Masters, Bridgestone etc and just go with the cheapest.

          • +2

@abc: Lol, lamb to the slaughter house

        • Same here, never had them try to sell me anything or push services. Was in there last week for a weird noise I couldn't locate & they mentioned the oil was low and topped it up for free.

          • @theredrabitt: Eeeeek. Why are you burning so much oil? That would be my concern.

            • @Muzeeb: Lots of cars burn oil as part of regular operation

    • +3

plus 4 blinker fluids, that would be 100 bucks each..

      • +5

You're getting ripped of. In my 15 years of getting cars serviced at the dealer I've never paid over $70 per blinker for refilling fluid.

Granted is only the normal stuff I get them to refill, but even the premium fluid costs only $85 per blinker.

        • +1 yep. , I don't muck around anymore, had some terrible experiences with el'cheapo AliExpress fluids - now I just pay ~$80 for the premium, it's worry free.

    • I've always had a good experience with them. They call me up first and make recommendations. I hold off on those recommendations, make my own assessment, wait six months, shop around and then get those items sorted.

    • yup, I tried claiming a dead battery within warranty which I bought from them (Wynnum QLD)….their mechanic who was in his late 50s (not some kid) disagreed and claimed it was my Camry's alternator that needed replacement……got a second opinion from an independent local mechanic who said alternator was fine….and it has been fine now for the past 8 years!!!!

  • +1

How much is the log book service cost these days Op

    • +2

Depends on: the make and model of your car; how old and how many kms it has done. Just call them up and ask and get another couple of quotes.

      • Got quoted $283 - $100 (promo) = $183 for a car service (sedan 2.4 Toyota 2010)

  • +5

Prob won't change oil filter and use some cheap oil, I'll stick to my garage

  • +4

Logbook services for certain vehicle brands, including BMW, MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, MG, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, Tesla, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini , Rolls Royce, McLaren, are unable to be booked online and are excluded from this Promotion.

    DAMN!

    • +3

MG is grouped together with premium brands these days?!

      • this could be related to those vintage ones.

    • +5

Audi not on the list. Guessed they consider MG more premium than Audi.

      • Surprising. Can we trust them with an Audi car?

        • +10

          Just a glorified Volkswagen

          • -1

@ozzieozzieozzie: Probably same reason why Lexus isn't listed since it is a glorified Toyota.

        • +2

Can we trust them with an Audi car?

The real question is "can you trust an Audi car?"

      • +2

It's because people confuse them with Aldi

    • +8

Thanks for not mentioning Koenigsegg. I'll book mine in for next week.

    • +2

If you had a late model prestigue vehicle like the brands listed u would be crazy to have it serviced at a hit and miss shop like mycar.

    • You know you're a true bargain hunters if you're taking your Ferrari , Aston Martin, lambo, Bentley, Rolls Royce or McLaren to Kmart for its services…

  • If we went over the logbook service date, will this logbook service still apply?

  • +1

Never would I service with MyCar

    • Why

      • I think they drive a Lamborghini

  • Basically my next service is basic, which I did my last service myself.

Oil filter, blah blah. I actually replaced my Air Filter and Cabin Filter plus Oil for way under $100.

I wonder if it's better to do a Groupon service for $40-60?

Normally $330, bit insane. $230 after $100 discount.
Maybe because it's log book and check everything manufacturer states it's more expensive.
I may do it, only did the last service myself due to lockdowns.
But I am looking to sell soon, so logbook is probably better.

Apparently my next service is $750 because of Spark Plugs and Transmission Fluid :/

    • Have you tried using a Groupon voucher?

      • Hahaha nope

I remember seeing so many bad reviews, recently tho the reviews are much better. I assume the businesses changed their model and just hope for customer returns.

  • Does this include blinker fluid top up?

    • +2

I've never had an issue, I always state to call me if I may require something.

If they ring, I say thank you for letting me know. Just the service. It's so simple.

      People are such snowflakes 😂😂😂

      • They will always call if proposing something on top.

        • They have too, if they didn't they would be liable for the costs.

  • +2

Like most businesses it depends on the employees. Got my last wheel alignment done at MyCar Burwood VIC by a couple of younger guys in their 20s. Wheels aligned all nice and straight and didn’t touch my negative camber setup (-1.5 front / -3 rear) as it was obviously intentional and they “thought it looked sikkkk”.

Included the list of everything that needs doing on the invoice which I’m collecting spares for and will get round to doing at my own leisure.

    • Do you street drift or just like prematurely wearing out tyres?

      • Evidently you don’t understand how tyre wear works with regards to camber and forward alignment (toe).

Camber (in my scenario, negative) doesn’t reduce tyre longevity, it focuses wear on a smaller area which I did for increased cornering grip, stability, and to fit wider alloys with lower offset. Camber will result in uneven tyre wear but will not reduce tyre longevity on it’s own.

Premature tyre wear from “camber” is due to positive or negative toe, resulting in scrubbing which causes premature tyre wear. A wheel alignment with zero toe front/rear eliminates this issue. If I get 60000km out of my tyres with zero camber and zero toe I will still get 60000km out of them with -3 camber and zero toe (just focused wear on the inside tread).

        • (just focused wear on the inside tread).

Which would make the inside tread unroadworthy prematurely compared to the rest of the tyre wouldn't it?

          • @Muzeeb: The rate of wear of the inside tread isn’t increased at all as a result of negative camber - the rest of the tyre simply gets used less. Toe is what causes premature wear (due to scrubbing), not camber.

Put it this way - the longevity of the rest of the tread is increased (due to reduced use), whilst the longevity of the inside tread remains the same due to same use (the inside tread was always touching the road anyway).

            • @OneJay: So you track the shit out of this car?
This makes no sense to me if it's just street driving - even spirited street driving. IMO you are also making your car accelerate slower and reducing braking efficiency with just street driving.

              • @Muzeeb:

So you track the shit out of this car?

I do actually. But that’s not what your original question was asking which tonally came across as belligerent and sarcastic. Apologies if that wasn’t what you intended but that’s how it was received.

        • What tyres are you getting 60,000kms from? 😬😬😬

          • @[Deactivated]:

What tyres are you getting 60,000kms from? 😬😬😬

The cheapest Chinese tyres with the hardest compound 🤪

In all seriousness I’m using Federal Evoluzion ST-1. First time I’m using them and haven’t had them long so unsure how they’ll fare.

            • @OneJay: I was gonna say! Haha

  • I just came off cap price servicing, anyone recommend a good Toyota mechanic in Brisbane? Anyone used mycar in Brisbane?

    • Any half decent mechanic can service a Toyota. They are as basic and simple as a Toyota dashboard.

    • Which side you on?

  • I have booked my basic car service tomorrow at my car. Just wondering if I should cancel it and do logbook one?

    • The cost of the logbook service may negate the discount.

Depends if you still want to service by logbook there are other factors such as resale value.

  • +2

Ok, I just checked the quote after $100 off and it's about the same $ as what my garage normally would charge.

  • +1

I guess my VW Up is classified as a elusive car to them, so I won't be getting $100 off my service.

"You’re driving an elusive car there!
It’s either so new we don’t have the logbook data, a nice high-end car with a complicated logbook, or simply an enigma! We’ll work on getting it bookable online as soon as possible, meanwhile our technicians at Toombul know just what the service will be needed.

    Give us a call on 07 3215 8340 or 13 13 28 and we'll book your service in.

Unfortunately the $100 off logbook promotion won’t be applicable for non-online bookings, we’re sorry for the inconvenience and are working to improve this going forward. Promotion Terms & Conditions."

  • Its more expensive then my dealer before discount, and 60 cheaper with code

  • Who does their roadside assistance? Does mycar have a fleet of repair utes?

    • They put you onto Allianz roadside.

      • Thank you. 👍

    Couldn't find my audi q7's logbook service…

WOW - I have a Mazda3 2015 which is one of the most common cars and they can't service it online. What can they service then?

My car quoted 1600 for my car
To be fiXe’s/services. Local mechanic did it for 750. My car is quite expensive imho, bring back the old Kmart auto and the cheaper prices.

  • +1

Literally cheaper to go local, no deal here.

  • Is it better to get a quote on months old or odometer?

    • Service is generally every year, but at the end it'll go by the odometer.

  • +1

All these comments remind me of the Simpsons episode where Homer takes his car in for a free service but cops $500

    This discount is basically unobtainable.
    Our two cars are "elusive"
1992 Nissan NXR (yeah a bit old)

A 2018 Holden Commodore & 2013 Kia Sportage are elusive to them, wasn't an issue when they performed the last services and I was paying full price.

  • I've been using mycar and used to think them reasonable relative to a dealer in spite of wipers and lights being replaced every service (quite unnecessarily). But suspicious now after taking very different cars in and getting exactly the same recommendations…brake pads need replacing since they're below recommended thickness, tyres need replacing and wheel alignment. All up over 1k over the initial quotes. I'm now shopping around for another service option. Any subaru recommendations in Melbourne?

  • I'd save about $50 off Ford's price ($320). But mine's not due til March next year. Basic logbook service too which I have all the parts for.

Always good to check Autoguru too for prices of local mechanics. And they always have promos for discounts.

  • Did a quote - a 2012 Mazda 2 with 100K on the odo, which is already serviced yearly (basic oil change) and driven about 5~10K kms a yr. It suggests a "200000 km 120 months" logbook service for $538 (already with the $100 off).

    It says:

    Comprehensive vehicle inspection
    Oil filter
    Cabin filter
    Top-ups
    Vehicle digital diagnostic scan
    Logbook stamp

I am not really sure what I am actually getting here for this amount of money.

EDIT: If I select "100000 km 60 months" the item list is exactly the same , quote changes to $284

    🤷‍♀️

And changing it to " 120000 km 72 months" it jumps to $640. This is a random number generator.

    • +1

Ahahhaha what a rip off. Oil filter and a cabin filter for $538.

    • +1

      Comprehensive vehicle inspection

The cabin dome light, a couple of globs on the back, alternator belt and a couple of fuses might mysteriously need changing after the the inspection.

      Oil filter
      Cabin filter

      $30 + $30 (I'm being generous)

      Vehicle digital diagnostic scan

As in, the "comprehensive inspection" doesn't include a basic diagnostic scan? That doesn't sound very comprehensive now, does it? Also, a monkey could run a basic diagnostic scan in like 3 minutes.

      Logbook stamp

Yup, the stamping ink is quite expensive and they have employed this bloke with full blown Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis so he needs about 40 minutes of labour to do the stamping.

This is one of the two reasons why I ditch the dealership for servicing as soon as the free services end. The other reason being that they're mostly a bunch of incompetent people who are unscrupulous, hostile and typically have the moral compass of a serial killer as a bonus.

      • +1

@CocaKoala, Great summary indeed. What they will do is add $500 to your bill and give you $100 off. :)

Mechanics (like many other tradespeople) have zero morals and are frankly paid far too much for the simple things that they do.

        • Mechanics (like many other tradespeople) have zero morals and are frankly paid far too much for the simple things that they do.

          Well, some of them yes.

I've been fortunate to have some exceptional mechanics looking after my cars over the years. The regular guy now moved his garage to another suburb, and I decided I'll simply continue with him regardless for this reason. He even had the courtesy to pick up my car and drop it off this time as I wasn't prepared.

          • +1

@CocaKoala: You sir are a lucky duck.

What I said is even more illustrative if you have tradie/mechanic friends. Often they will do the job at cost. Once you do simple calculation, you realise what the mark up is. These mofos are charging $250 per hour. My lawyer is only slightly more expensive.

            • @Naigrabzo:

What I said is even more illustrative if you have tradie/mechanic friends.

I'm going to have to defend my mechanic as he's not really a friend who happens to be a mechanic. I didn't know him until he came around the first time to diagnose and fix a leaking oil coolant housing seal (two other mechanics couldn't find out what was wrong with the car). But this guy came around, muttered "Oh, this model. I bet it's the coolant housing seal", crept under the car and came out with that very diagnosis in 10 minutes total.

He's just a honest fellow who also happens to be a damn good mechanic.

I've no trouble recommending him publicly. He's Wayne from Dandenong diesel mechanics at Healey road Dandenong South.

These mofos are charging $250 per hour.

Like I said, not my guy. He's worth every cent he charges me and he's even told me things like "don't bother with changing the front brake pads now - there's at least another 5000k left in them". (For context, I do ask for a lot of preventive maintenance to be done on my cars as drive a fair bit - or used to before the pandemic)
