How are the pastes comapred to the kits, eg. butter chicken?

The kits have the dry spices + some paste (or "base sauce") + the rest of the ingredients blended in the big sachet. Those dry spices are ridiculously fragrant and the end effect is a really nice, fresh dish. I would imagine the paste + onions, garlic, tomatoes and cream is not as spectacular.
