Does this fix the headlights that have the build-up on the inside?

    • How do you think it can miraculously do that?

      • +2

Don't know, that's why it's a product you pay a lot of money for as opposed to a tube of toothpaste which cleans the outside for $3

        • +1

Not sure if you are trolling or not but you cannot physically access the inside of most sealed Beam headlights to then apply the 3 types of abrasives you then polish to remove the UV affected plastic.

Even if you could access you could never actually polish the inside

        • +1

Wouldn't the point of this product be, it at least puts a coating that may last slightly longer than just using an abrasive (which what a toothpaste basically would act as)?

    • Wow, it is so easy. I wish I knew this before. Thanks, next time I'll give it a try.

  • Apparently fly spray works too

    $1 toothpaste does the trick
A coat of wax after that

    • How often do you have to apply the wax?
Does it last longer than the UV protectant on this product?

      • Generally these proper headlight restore kits last well. The polish/wax idea is cheap if you already have it ;)

      • I did the toothpaste trick which removed the haze but remained pale. Then a while after I decided to clean with wax and became clear
That was a few weeks ago and still good.

I haven’t tried a proper kit so cant compare

        • Metal polish cleared mine up really well, but the generic ceramic coating I applied only lasted a few months.

    • IMHO, Brass metal polish actually works best, then polish with car wax or some sort of clear sealant . Ymmv

      • I used a metal polish which cleared it up great, then wiped on some generic ceramic coating. It only lasted a few months at most. I wonder if this product will last longer.

        • I'd recommend using Clear spray paint eg. https://www.bunnings.com.au/rust-oleum-298g-2x-ultra-cover-s…

Just make sure it says UV protected

          • @shoppe: 100% this is the solution. None of these restoration kits are much use without a UV stable gloss clearcoat… they won't last long without it. Clear coat should be applied before any other products though.

Hmm, I get the idea, but I'd be worried about the solvents in the spray paint affecting the housing. Also if/when the paint degrades and needs to be removed, it'll be quite a chore. It does look like a much more permanent solution though. Has anyone here tried it?

I imagine the gloss version of that spray paint would be more suitable than that satin one.

            • @eug: There is paint specifically designed for this purpose. It will last a lot longer than "ceramic" or wax type coatings.

              • @Singu1arity: I saw that the other day but nobody has stock, not even in the US. Looks like it has been discontinued. This might have replaced it. Looks pretty interesting, I do wonder how easy it is to remove in the future though, if/when it wears out.

                • @eug: That's the point though, it will "wear out" much slower than a "rub on" type coating like these kits provide (ceramic or wax) since they typically only last a few months and then you have to do the whole thing again.

The coating would not be difficult to remove though, these kits would still work to help with that.

  • How good is the UV protectant?

Thinking if using this to protect my Samsung digital door lock, that has a perspex touch screen face, that the UV rays cause cracks on this perspex type material.

    • It's a clever idea that I've never thought of using on such an application, but I know Cerakote in general has one of the greatest UV protection in the market.
