I know they’re technically 2 generations old, but the 10 series are well priced and still very good chips.

I like it how the 10th gen i9 has 10 cores but then Intel decides to release the 12th gen i9 with only 8 cores

      • +1

Core count is not the be all and end all. The core architecture is completely different in the 12th gen chips and will certainly perform better vs. 10th gen

        • +1

Oops, was meant to say 11th gen i9 has only 8 cores. 12th gen i9 has 16 cores (8 performance cores + 8 efficiency cores) for the record
It still feels like 11th gen was a bit of a step back from 10th gen even if the cores performed better

@FireRunner: The whole 8+8 will be interesting especially in how they’ll market it. I’m really keen to see some benchmarks soon. Currently running AMD but I’m all for some good competition.

for gaming 9th gen i7 is still perfect

Intel 12th gen announced tomorrow, so 10th and 11th gen will drop further in price very soon

  • Very tempting for an Unraid build. Just looking at an ITX motherboard to compliment it.

    • Let us know if which ITX motherboard you end up getting for unraid.

      • SFF Master List: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AddRvGWJ_f4B6UC7_Ift…

There were a few ITX mobo deals in the last few weeks, just couldn't pull the trigger.

Coming from a Xeon E3-1241 v3, I don't know if I really need it or not lol. Just want to get something with an iGPU for Plex transcoding.

        • I run Unraid with an i7 10700 on a H470I Aorus Pro AX. Its a bit overkill for Unarid but the reason I chose this board was that it was the only one I could find that has 2x Intel NICs. All other ITX H470 boards have either both Realtek or one intel and one Realtek NIC. For me, having two RJ45 ports on the motherboard itself was a really good feature if I want to use it for Pfsense or use my server as a backup router for High Availability purposes. This frees up the PCIE slot for other uses.

          • @drinkin-beer: How much power does it use? my 1600AF is getting a bit long in the tooth.

            • @vash12: do you mean the whole server or just the CPU?

              • @drinkin-beer: Whole server

                • @vash12: Funny you should ask because I have my server plugged into a smart energy meter and it uses between 1KWh and 1.7KWh per day depending on use.

        • I used to recommend a GTX 1650 super for transcoding, far better performance than any CPU, unfortunately they aren't available anymore.

          • +1

@greatlamp: Yeah I tried to hunt down a second hand 1650 super over the last few months for a semi decent price and got sick of trying. Ended up getting a P2200 second hand for $350 which I thought was a pretty good deal.

    • Go for the H570 from asrock. Great vrms.

    • B560i 179 on ebay

    Intel Core i9-11900K 5.3GHz 8 Cores 16 Threads LGA 1200 CPU $729

Same one for $649 on Amazon?

  • Deal is on until the 8th… tempting to wait a day or two for 12th gen stuff to pop.

FYI 12600k price on MSY is $469 (when available)

  • +1

Some of the CPU's are cheaper on eBay with eBay Plus (no shipping fee) on Harris tech, 10600k is $303.05 shipped.

There is also an OEM tray variant of Core i9 11900K for $649 delivered , no fancy retail packaging, save $80.

  • +3

Ugh if only the 10700K were at that $359. These prices look pretty standard outside of the 10700F.

    • Looks like this deal from back in June still hasn't been matched/beaten since… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/630155

Wouldn't buy any of these now, knowing there's been way better deals months ago.

      • But that required Afterpay, so screw that.

        • $334 at Amazon.

          • @MiscOzB: Now that was good!

          • @MiscOzB: Waiting waiting and waiting for this price again

  • really seems intel has taken the bang for buck market from AMD

    • They did like a year or so ago.

      • last time i looked they were pretty on par eg 5600x vs 11600k price wise but seems to have pushed even further to intel but i guess new release will do that
prob drop a bit more before becoming unavailable

  • new CPU's tomorrow look rather exciting.. looking forward to see how the new architecture performs.
