  • When you go to checkout its $499 what am i doing wrong?

    • They have updated the website price now.

  • off to pick one up ! :D

  • +1

the picture quality was awful on this when I saw it in store. Soniq's best TV would be the 42" LED, great image quality and performance on that - but it cost $699 (might have come down now).

    • just curious
how does two 1920x1080 differ as since youre referring to a 42" and a 55"?

      • +1

huh? they are both 42" and 1080p. Only difference is this one is 3D and LCD, the other is LED. They would both use different panels - this 3D one is not very good.

        • thought you were referring to the soniq 55" when you mention the $699 price as it was on special was week

    • +1

dont be surprised if they deliberatly put a dodgy picture to upsell you a more expensive brand, its been done before, see some of the previous soniq threads.

i'm pretty happy with my 32" i bought a year ago when they where on sale… the PVR in them is decent enough too.

      • Do you mean they put a low grade signal or alter the settings to make the picture look not so good?

        • NFI, although id imagine they use a low grade signal(using an RCA plug instead of HDMI), maybe a low bit rate AVI running on them?

      • +1

It is also done to lead buyers to a brand that gives the retailer a higher bonus. Who pays the highest bonuses for their b grade sets?

  • MINE CAME WITH 4 PAIRS OF 3D GLASSES, Just picked up Werribee Store

      lol lucky….

now, "would you like popcorn with that"?

Got this when it was $800. Freaking good TV for gaming and movies.

    • is it 100hz? how is the picture quality and 3D? the one I saw may have just been poorly setup. its tempting for this price if the performance is good.

    • How is the input lag? You an find out how many milliseconds it is by running this test with your laptop connected and take a photo. http://tft.vanity.dk/

  • gah. temptation.
I wish there was something you could do with old tv's. I'd feel a bit spoiled if I had 3 HD TVS in the house, when we only use one.

    • +1

Flog them on gumtree? Gifts? Sell it them for cheap to friends/family etc.

  • Just wonder, can we use the 3d glasses provided for other tv? It might be cheaper than buy separate 3d glasses

    • typically not, sometimes even glasses from the same manufacturer for another model of TV aren't even compatible!

    • +1

Yes they are cheap polarized 3D glasses, the same ones from the cinema will work fine.

      • if the other TV also utilises cheap polarized glasses…

  • how many star ratings is this tv?

  • Is it mountable?

another 50hz tv.. I want 100hz for sports and games :\

  • -1

Nah bro, this television is definitely 100hz. The framerate/movement is smooth as hell. It took me a long time to get used to the difference between this and the 50hz Hitachi television I have inside the main living room. Gaming on it took ages but Gears of War, Halo, Saints, Tales of Vesperia and Skyrim all look way better with the smoother and faster movement that the 100hz provides.

Bought one of these tonight. First impressions.
    * Picture quality is average to ok. Colours are fine by resolution (even from bluray via HDMI) looks about average, that said I am sitting quite close.
    * Sound quality is low. If you're a "mum and dad" type viewer it'll be ok. But to me (and I'm no audiophile) it is quite tinny.
    * OSD is fantastic. Set up is a breeze.
    * Biggest complaint however is I can't for the life of me get it to play SBS 3D sources. I've got a few divx 3D sbs files (youtube and elsewhere) and I've got my xbox 360 De Blob 2 and I can't get the TV to display it.

      EDITS:
      "Colours are fine but…"

Fixed the problem with the SBS 3D (xbox and files). There's a firmware upgrade from

      http://www.soniq.com.au/component/option,com_agora/Itemid,107/id,136/task,topic/

      that allows manual 3D.

They REALLY should be letting people know this. Otherwise I'd imagine they'll be a lot of returns.

    • Just wondering does it convert any 2D broadcast to 3D? or any 2D Movie to 3D

      • Yes. I looked at JB yesterday and the only 3D they could show me was a 2D to 3D conversion and it looked aweful. Also they seem to use such terrible source material at JB Malaga WA so all the TV's looked terrible. Makes it hard to compare.

  • hmm the lack of HDMI inputs is a bit of a buzz kill…nothing that a splitter wouldnt fix, however it is an extra component.

Though i guess id no longer need a media centre/TV tuner… so Media PC (for straming) and blue ray player should do the trick, man i cant wait till they have network players in TVs!

    • It is a hassle, I have a media centre, xbox and blu ray. 3 HDMI devices and 2 inputs. I put my media center on RCA cables since it's mostly used for Divx files anyhow.

      • yeah im hanging out for a decent receiver to overcome it… 2 HDMI out, 1 for the projector and one for the TV, would overcome the issue with only 2 HDMI ports… but a valid point none the less, if you have a blue ray player, xbox, your going to have to figure out an alternative to pluging in other things like Cameras/media centres etc. or be playing around with plus which is a pain…

  • Just wondering does it convert any 2D broadcast to 3D? or any 2D Movie to 3D

    • -1

You can convert 3D to 2D, but not the other way.

      • Many TVs do a conversion from 2D to 3D too, obviously not as good as a 3d Signal but still seems to give it some depth..

now if your answer was a general answer, your wrong, but if your talking about this TV in general… not sure.

    • +1

Yes it's got a 2D to 3D transfer and it seems to do it for more or less everything. Doesn't work to well though.

  • yeah till i noticed it had 3d i wasnt interested since i got the hitachi for $320 or what not. But dam thats a nice deal, yes 2 hmi is a pain butyou can get expanders ect…

nice deal, would jump on it if i didnt buy one already before.

  • Well I have heard the 3D is very poor and blurry. And the fact it is only 50hz all put me off this TV. Such a shame was excited when I saw the price but once you get to see them in person and reveal all the specs they are not so great afterall.

  • Just bought myself 1 of this TV. The 3D effect is not as bad. Just make sure to use the ver 1.4 HDMI cables for your blu ray player. Picture quality is pretty good. Only letdown is the TV sound quality.

  • I bought one yesterday to use as a computer monitor. Despite what the manual says, it works extremely well over VGA at 1080p - far better than the Sony 32CX520 we also have in the office. The panel itself is bright, great colour, and wide angels. It uses an IPS panel which is the same type used in high-end Dell and Apple Cinema displays..

However, over HDMI the image is just awful. Definitely not 1:1 pixels, and for some reason colours are washed out. Played with the limited settings - reducing sharpness helped a little, but still just awful.

Luckily VGA is fine for our purposes, so it's a keeper.

    • Yeah some cheap TV's dont allow changing of pixels to 1:1 over HDMI, which is a pain.
