$49 Telstra Mobile Broadband Plan with 60GB Data on a 12-Month Contract, Bonus $250 Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi in-Store

560

Seems like a good deal.
12 months at $49 per month = $588
Less the $250GC, per month rate = $28.16

Unlimited calls etc.

Not sure if you can get a $10 monthly port in credit with Telstra or not. If so, bargain.

N.B. This plan does not include 5G

UPDATE - THE PLAN MAY NOT INCLUDE ANY CALL ALLOWANCE (sorry). It seems like that JB website has now updated the link for Terms and Conditions. Initially they had two links, that one I clicked said call allowance. But that link is gone now. I'll keep checking.

There's no way I would pay this kind of money for this deal. Much better options available with different providers

    • +5

That's great - except this is with Telstra :)

      • +1

To be fair it’s only if you need the data. You can get better deals with prepaid 365 day cards- as low as $10 a month on Telstra network

        • +5

Not on Telstra retail network - with full coverage, VoLTE and VoWiFi. Closest on Telstra retail is Boost 12 months/100GB - regularly around mid $150s

On Telstra wholesale, Belong is now $15 per month, and sometimes you can get Woolies prepaid down to $150, and sometimes Aldi Mobile for $99 with 15GB data for 12 months.

          • +1

@willyroo: Belong =/= TIAB resellers like Woolies and other Telstra Wholesale customers. Case in point is Belong ADSL (when it was offered) was always unlimited while no other provider could do unlimited "Off-Net" through a Telstra port.

Belong is basically a post-paid version of Boost and is different to the actual MVNOs that use Telstra.

        • I'm on the woolies one, I find the connection a lot worse than my proper telstra one was. Dead spots in the house/office and constant weak signal whereas the proper telstra network it was fine.

Both are still better than optus though.

      • -1

Other providers using the Telstra network if coverage is your concern 😉

      • +1

Telstra paid my last 3 bills for 2 services….yeah it was that bad they couldnt be bothered helping me fix the fact i had little to no coverage. Moved back to Optus and gee…night and day.

      • There are still some areas where Telstra is suck, e.g in my house.
My wife is using Optus - always 5 bars. We have a Vodafone SIM in a 4G wifi modem - always 60Mbps or more.
And I'm using Boost - maximum 1 bar. Fortunately Boost has VoWifi. And unfortunately, no SMSoWifi :-( so whenever I need an SMS, I have to take my phone outside

    • +1

i have to say telstra has a wide network coverage, some places where only telstra has signal.

      • +1

They have the best network coverage in my experience also. We did a round Australia trip while I was with Boost as the provider and I had reception no different to people paying the full Telstra plan price and way more than anyone with Optus

        • Usually the only difference is speed and customer service.

    • -2

I thought it was 49 bucks for the year, and was flabbergastered when i saw the total price… I'll stick to Boost or Kogan deals..

  • I wonder if this can be stacked with the 200$ trade in offer for the pixel 6.
    Oh wait, no 5g, nevermind.

    • +3

According to the page on the JB site, 5G access is included

      • -1

You're right, OP should be edited, it states that it does not have 5G.
I might be relocating overseas around March, I wonder what are my options if I go with this plan.

        • +1

Your options are to pay out the contract, and a portion of the voucher you received.

          So 8months@$49*50% + 8/12 * $250 = $363

Or stay on the plan. 8*$49 = $392

What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You'll need to pay an Early Termination Charge (ETC) equal to 50% of your monthly fee for the months (or part months) remaining in your plan term. The maximum ETC for your plan is set out in the above table. In addition to this, you'll also need to reimburse Telstra for any vouchers you received for entering into your plan. This Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fee is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 12 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term. This charge will appear on your
Telstra bill, the maximum being $294 (plus any Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fees if applicable)

If you're bothered to wait, they have this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/568934
    Probably be black friday

    • I gave up on porting out for a month before a potential deal arises hey

      • -2

You can port out on the day, no need to wait. Just spend $2 on a sim card from vodafone or others.

        • Vodafone will ask you to recharge first before you can activate.

          • @slackme: Lebara Sims with data $4 at Woolworths
            Kogan sim + recharge $4.90

      • +2

I did this deal last year, I didn't need to port out. I got a new phone number and then I reached out to Telstra via chat support and asked them to swap the phone numbers on the account and then cancel my out of contract account. Worked like a charm.

        • Did something similar. Bought an Optus prepaid sim then ported it onto Telstra on my existing Telstra account. Then got chat support to switch the new contract to my old number and terminate the new number.

    • +1

Precisely what I am waiting for

    • That's the deal I got last year and it was great. Bought me 3/4 of a PS5.

I'm finally porting out (it's been a year) to iiNet for $15 a month for like 120GB since I'm a customer.

      • +1

Did you end up buying the other 1/4 ?

    • Thank you, will wait

    • +1

The contract that I got last year with TGG for 80gb $59/month + $500 GC expires this coming Sunday.

I would like to get this deal again to score another GC.

      What are my best options??

Not sure if you made a typo in the title, however, the link is to Telstra Mobile broadband, not mobile phone plans

Isn't this just a data plan with no calls/texts?

  • +1

Does 5g really make you feel difference? Or just cost more battery?

Looks like 4g is enough for me , I don't play online mobile game, and max 720p YouTube video is good for me.

So currently do I really need 5G function ?
    though my phone support 5g

    • +2

Nope, 4G is fine for most people so unless you need the speeds or latency, 4g is fine for general browsing.

    • +1

I let 5G run through my veins - it always feels different.

    • You are very unlikely to see the difference between 5G and 4G.

  • Telstra are (profanity) and it doesn't include 5G however I'm on this plan and recently got a 6 month free trial of 5G (right around the time of my second vaccination 🤔)

I'm not paying extra for 5G though and reckon eventually it will be included on this plan.

    • Even with all the competition, Telstra are still the only choice for my current use case because of their coverage.kinda sucks

    • What the hell you got 5G with your second vaccine? I didn't. I got ripped off 😡 I have to pay a carrier to get 5G.

      • let start me too campaign. double dosed and no 5G

  • -5

No offence OP but this is really a bad deal.

  • Your plan doesn’t include a call, SMS and MMS allowance. If you send a SMS using a SMS capable
device, PAYG rates apply. Standard national SMS – 25¢ per message sent per recipient in
Australia. Standard national MMS – 50¢ per message sent per recipient in Australia

  • $49 Monthly fee and $350 gift card will definately make this a bug deal…..but now, nothing special

    • This is indeed a BUG deal

      • Not attractive enough to me ~~~~
no 5G, no port in credit, no international allowance

That means paying around 30 bucks to get a sim card with 60GB and a 12-month locked contract.

So preapid plan provides similar meal.
With international allowance, 5G sooner and no lock~~~

      • What does a BUG deal mean?

        • +3

          It's Kiwi for "big"

  • This is a pretty bad deal tbh. No Calls/SMS/MMS allowance. @ 100% GC value, you are still paying $28.20. Previously the infamous $69/$500GC deal got me $10/m off and at 100% GC Value I was paying $17.33. Unlimited Talk & Text.

  • Pretty good deal if all you’re after is 4G or 5G home internet.

    5G is included: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/JB-Hi…

  • Wait till the XMAS deals!

  • Re N.B. This plan does not include 5G
All listed plans in the deal link do show as 5G.

  • I think there are much better deals out there atm unless Telstra bring back their $69 and $500 gift card plan. That deal was worth signing up to imho.
