The 4K A800S is another I can recommend. Amazing dashcam quality on that and so easy to transfer footage off onto a phone.

Is this battery or capacitor? I can't tell from the product description.

      • There is a small 500mAh battery inside so that could be a problem for hot summers. It wasn't an issue for me last summer and that was bloody hot.

        • Do Tasmania summers count though?

          • @dust: Enjoyed a wonderful 41 degree day last year. But yes it peaks over 35 and our ozone layer is much thinner as they say. The sun burns a lot hotter here than when I lived in Melbourne.

            • @Clear: Yikes that's warm. Yeah okay well if the battery didn't explode then it'd probably okay!

              • @dust: I was in Melbourne back in January 2019 and the temperature was a scorching 46. That would have melted dashcams for sure.

                • @Clear: I think it's hotter here in Perth and I have both types of dashcam - battery and capacitor. Both still working fine after 2 and 3 summers.

      • The description says it has 24hr parking mode. That'd be battery powered. Checkout VIOFO for capacitor based dashcams.

        • That requires connection to car battery, with an optional cable

anyone looking for non-battery supercaps dashcam , might want to consider ddpai z40 which is cheaper last i checked

Any idea how long these dash cams should last? My 70mai lite lasted only 18 months.

    • i think 70mai 1s … last longer based on ozb feedbacks

Problem with these camera because they got a built in battery when batterie don't hold charge anymore the time and date stamp go back to the factory date stamp. That what happen to my 2 7mai pro. The battery in them last max 12 months.

    • Doesn't look too hard to replace though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY4B7h7d0yI

      • Yeah, but where to find the battery that the problem

"Iron Li-ion Battery" aka "lifepo4" model# hmc1450 pic from youtube with operating temperature -20 - 70 degree c Patent. Impressive and probably why they don't explode.

A listing on ebay and amazon as well, but expensive.

          :)

  • can't get that price showing $315

Does this work as a reversing camera? I don't see it listed in the specs, so I guess not, but I am not sure.

  • Is this the one with the 4:3 aspect ratio?

  • peoples worries too much on battery, it's not lithium battery in the old days. Same battery used on solar light, which is under sunlight all the time but still last many years for me. And you need to know good made quality can easily last 5 years under Sydney's every day sunlight, I got couple 7 yrs now.

  • For reference I went for the 70mai 1944P Dash Cam Pro Plus A500S + 1080P Rear Cam + Hardware Kit + 32GB card for a total of $153.25, with CashRewards going in the background. Thanks OP!

I've got two of the 70mai A800 4k cameras - one in the front and one in the back, both work quite well since I got them around last year on their Indiegogo launch

Personally, I prefer to run two capacitor dash cams from a Xiaomi power bank 3 20000mah pro power bank. The powerbank supports two way fast charging and I have it connected to a 45w USB car charger to rapid charge it whilst it runs the camera. Advantage of this method is I have it running as a parking mode when I'm at the shops or at work and I can replace the powerbank easily when it eventually dies, don't have to worry about properly hardwiring the setup as everything is easily removable and replaceable compared to having to change hardwire kits when you change cameras.

    • Sounds like a pretty serious and clever setup!
