A massive shout-out to jasonc74 and Peck for tipping me off about this deal.

This deal seems to be only available at locations owned by Ampol Retail Pty Ltd (i.e. Ampol-owned locations), and these locations are branded as Ampol or Caltex.

  • Most Ampol or Caltex locations do not have any signage regarding this deal, but you should ask the attendant whether their AmpolCash or Caltex StarCash gift cards are discounted by 5%.

  • I have purchased AmpolCash gift cards from Ampol-branded locations and Caltex StarCash gift cards from Caltex-branded locations, and they all had the 5% discount applied to them.

  • I doubt franchise Ampol / Caltex locations are participating in this deal, but YMMV.

This deal can be stacked with the (targeted) AMEX $10 cashback offer at Ampol / Caltex.

AmpolCash digital gift cards are sold at a 5% discount or 3% cashback everyday at a number of gift card portals, but the difference between AmpolCash physical gift cards and AmpolCash digital gift cards are:

  • AmpolCash physical gift cards are accepted at almost all Ampol, Caltex and EG / Caltex Woolworths locations across Australia with EFTPOS facilities (which is approximately 1900 locations).1
  • On the other hand, AmpolCash digital gift cards are only redeemable at participating Ampol and Caltex locations.

Offer terms and conditions (as printed on the back of the card sleeve):

  • Offer is for 5% off AmpolCash physical gift cards (Card) purchased in participating stores only (excludes online purchases).
  • The Offer starts 12:01am 03/11/21 AEST and ends 11:59pm 30/11/21.
  • The Offer is applicable on denominations of $25, $50, $100, $250 and $500.
  • Customers are only eligible to redeem AmpolCash gift cards in exchange for fuel or in-store products after the purchase of promotional AmpolCash and it is not redeemable for cash.
  • AmpolCash physical gift cards expire on the last day of the month, as stated on the Card, or if no month is stated, 36 months after the date of the purchase of the Card. Any balance that remians after expiry will not be available to use.
  • AmpolCash may only be used at Caltex and Ampol branded outlets where EFTPOS terminals are available and operational.
  • AmpolCash cannot be used to purchase other gift cards (including other AmpolCash cards), prepaid or post-paid phone or internet vouchers, transport tickets, mobile phones and accessories, Tolls payments, or lottery tickets.

  1. The only exception is unmanned locations. AmpolCash physical gift cards can only be used at unmanned locations if your gift card has PIN verification enabled.
    - You can enable PIN verification at the time of purchase by telling the attendant you would like to set a PIN. The attendant will ask you to swipe the gift card and key in your desired PIN.
    - Otherwise, you can email [email protected] with the gift card number on the front of the card and a copy of the gift card proof of purchase and request PIN verification to be enabled on the gift card. ↩

      Although the terms state you cannot use it to purchase other gift cards, who knows whether the Ampol/Caltex or EG / Caltex Woolworths POS systems actually block you from doing that.

      When you want to pay using one of these gift cards, you only need to tell the attendant that you want to pay by card (not gift card), so if their POS systems don't automatically block it, you may be able to get away with it…

      Unlike the digital gift cards, you can redeem the physical gift cards in this deal at any Ampol, Caltex or EG / Caltex Woolworths location. That's pretty much the only reason I posted this deal.

      AmpolCash physical gift cards are accepted at all Ampol, Caltex and EG / Caltex Woolworths locations across Australia with EFTPOS facilities (which is approximately 1900 locations).

      On the other hand, AmpolCash digital gift cards are only redeemable at approximately 650 Ampol and Caltex locations across Australia.

      Sorry, I just realised there’s one small caveat to my previous comment to you.

      You can redeem the physical gift cards in this deal at almost all Ampol, Caltex or EG / Caltex Woolworths locations. The only exception is unmanned Ampol / Caltex locations. If you want to redeem physical gift cards at unmanned Ampol / Caltex locations, your gift card must have PIN verification enabled.

      Most AmpolCash gift cards are sold without PIN verification enabled. If you want to enable PIN verification on your gift card, you may be able to get the attendant at the service station to enable PIN verification at the time of purchase of the gift card. If they cannot do that, you can email [email protected] with the gift card number printed on the front of the card and a copy of the proof of purchase, and they can add PIN verification to the gift card.

      I purchased also a $50 gift card in the same transaction. All it says on the front of the card sleeve is "AmpolCash. Making it easy to refuel on the go." and does not mention the 5% discount anywhere. However, I got a 5% discount on that card too.

      I think so.

      You can use AmpolCash gift card in conjunction with myNRMA fuel discounts, Woolworths fuel discounts, myToyota fuel discounts, etc, so it is likely you can use AmpolCash gift cards with the Uber 12 cents off voucher. However, I have no personal experience using Uber 12 cents off vouchers, so you may want to check the Uber 12 cents off voucher terms and conditions to see if they specifically exclude AmpolCash.

      ShopBack has 6% cashback for AmpolCash digital gift cards, which is fine if you go to Ampol or Caltex locations that accept digital gift cards. However, not all Ampol or Caltex locations across Australia accept AmpolCash digital gift cards.

      This deal is good if you:

      • Purchase fuel from an Ampol / Caltex location that does not accept AmpolCash digital gift cards, or
      • Purchase fuel from an EG / Caltex Woolworths location, or
      • Want to use the (targeted) AMEX $10 cashback offer.

    In my experience, locations that accept AmpolCash digital gift cards tend to be more pricey than locations that do not accept AmpolCash digital gift cards.

      I have noticed that locations accepting AmpolCash digital gift cards tend to also accept Everyday Rewards points (and sometimes the Everyday Rewards fuel discount), so I guess a combination of all of that means they charge you a few cents more per litre at the pump to help cover the cost of those perks.

      I used a Caltex StarCash physical gift card (essentially the same as an AmpolCash physical gift card, but with different branding) at a EG / Caltex Woolworths a few times earlier this year and was able to stack it with the 4c/6c Woolworths fuel vouchers each time.

      To use this at an EG / Caltex Woolworths:

      • Tell the attendant that you want to pay via card (or card, split payment if your gift card has insufficient balance to cover the full amount owed). Do not say gift card, as I’m fairly sure you can only swipe WISH gift cards or Essentials gift cards if you say gift card.
      • Swipe the gift card on the EFTPOS terminal.
      • On the screen where it asks for a PIN, simply hit Enter (or whatever the green button is on the EFTPOS terminal). These gift cards have no PIN attached to them, so do not enter any numbers!

    Good work Wookie, that image was not on display at my Ampol Foodary. The cashier was initially surprised when the price dropped by 5%. But then she remembered the promo. It looks like she was right when she said that she "thought that it ends 30/11/21".
    They also scanned my EDR card for the points, but, as I expected, there was no EDR discount.

      I’m sorry for stealing your deal! I guess I was lucky that the $25 AmpolCash gift cards at the location I visited had the promotional card sleeve.

      I scanned my EDR card when I purchased a Caltex StarCash gift card at a Caltex location earlier this year and got zero points, so don’t expect to get any points!

      To check the balance:

      • Check the receipt for the last purchase where you use the gift card,
      • Call the number on the back of the gift card, or
      • Email the email address on the back of the gift card.

      (I know, it’s rather archaic, but that’s what happens when there’s no PIN attached to these gift cards by default.)

    Thanks OP. At my ampol only the $100 cards had the 5% off promo sticker, but 5% was taken off the $50 card I bought.

      I bought a $25 and a $50 that did not have promo details on the tag, but still got the 5% off.
      The best that I could find re the remaining balance is 'Check your store receipt for current remaining balance'.
