No deal on Pixel 6 Pro :(

    • +2

I'm not sure but I think they may offer the same deal for the pro because in their promo images there is a pixel 6 and also a pixel 6 pro.

    • +5

Seems they have actual stock of the Pixel 6 on hand while the Pixel 6 Pro has deliveries months out.

    • its included in the pixel 6 promo i think

    • -1

Not a good sign for their stock levels… haha.

I'm almost glad I didn't pre-order one, by the time it actually comes back into stock in stores it'll have to be cheaper, because Android.

      • +1

I pre-ordered it and I already received mine, came in last week. Although I ordered it on the first hr it was announced. But yea, I heard the late pre-orderers r suffering the extra delivery wait times. Not sure if this one will get cheaper so quickly, apart from those quick promos. The preorders had $150 credit, plus $129 additional credit for Google one accounts, so it was quite worth it in my opinion, I am glad I pre-ordered mine. And it is a beauty!

    • There's no deals on like everything they're showing lol

    • $1299 for the Pixel 6 Pro according to the same email. No idea what the normal price is.

      • +2

That's the RRP in Australia for the 128gb model

  • This will be good with the $70 off coupon and 10% credit

    • Sorry which one is that?

      • People were getting coupons via local guides

    • +6

Will you be able to thought? "Offer cannot be combined with any promotional codes, or with other bundle offers running at the same time."

  • Any updates on screen replacement insurance etc for clutzes like me. Is it still US only?

    • +1

Yep get an amex essentials card (no annual fee) and get it for free 😀

  • +5

Anyone got their preorder store credit yet?

    • +3

      Not yet :(

    • Hopefully very soon. 3weeks after delivery I vaguely recall seeing. Although google one credit might be 4

      • Yeah it said approx 3 weeks after delivery in the offer terms https://store.google.com/au/promotion/e6f059ea-1550-4e9e-843… and Google One Credit is 30 days.

        • Are we getting Google One credit for preordering a Pixel 6 ??

          • +1

@Darnn: It's Google Store credit (via Google One membership at time of purchase)

Get rewarded for your Google Store purchases
Google One members on certain plans get a percentage back on eligible Google Store purchases in the form of Google Store credit:

Google One members with 200 GB plans: 3% back in Google Store credit
Google One members with 2 TB, 5 TB, 10 TB, 20 TB, or 30 TB plans: 10% back in Google Store credit
            Notes:

This benefit is only available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia.
Google One trial memberships and plan family members are not eligible.

            https://support.google.com/googleone/answer/9003266

          • @Darnn: If you have* Google one 2tb or higher plans when u ordered then you will get 10% of the amount paid as store credit.

            • Note that I said have, coz store credit is applied 30 days after the delivery, so u will need to have/pay for that plan for a min of 2 months.
    • Yes I got it and they retrospectively applied it to my pre-order after I called them

      • You managed to use your Google One credits on your pre-order?

      • I am interested too, is that possible? How did you do it?

    • Just got mine earlier today (preordered P6P on launch, arrived exactly 3 weeks ago)

      • Is your phone marked as delivered on the store orders page? Mine still shows as "Shipped".

I'm just hoping that isn't where they take the 3 weeks from.

        • +1

No, still 'shipped' (same as all of my previous orders over the years). Today is 3 weeks since it arrived and also the earliest 'delivered by' date on the orders page.
PS got an email to answer your question from below.

    • Just got mine today.

      • Did you get an email or does it just show up in your account?

  • +13

Meh, no point upgrading from Pixel 5

    • -4

      You must be kidding.

      • +7

Pixel 5 is a great device. Battery lasts two days easily, new pixels struggle despite bigger batteries.

        • +8

Do people really like leaving the house on day two with 55% battery though? (profanity) me I'd hate that. You'd be rationing your battery all the time.

It's not that hard to charge it at night beside bed. A solid one day battery life is all you need, this "two day" battery life thing is wildly over rated IMO.

          • -2

@Binchicken22: I don't mind it you got powerbanks and car chargers to deal with.

Also for me I got two phones anyway.

Unfortunately pixel 6 skipped on a proper charger as well. Not sure why Google followed Apple. Claiming being green and racking profits. Same as supermarkets but giving plastic bags ppl end up buying bin covers amyway

          • +7

@Binchicken22: Plenty of reasons why battery is important. E.g. If you're on holiday and recording video and taking pics all day, and using GPS to navigate. It's nice to know that you won't have to manage the battery at all. Personally I charge my phone every second day to maintain battery health, unless I know I'll be out all day.

            • +1

@Cyb3rGlitch: There really isn't that much different though… Unfortunately GSM arena hasn't done their pixel 6 review yet, only the 6 pro, but going off that compares to the pixel 5, the 5 does 12:05 of web browsing, the 6pro does 12:32.

Yes the 6pro has a 20% larger battery, but it is also powering a large, higher resolution, higher refresh rate (120hz vs 90hz), brighter screen. So I'd say all in all, they are within spitting distance of one another either way.

          • @Binchicken22: first time I heard anyone say extra battery life is overrated..lol. How do you quantify 1 day or 2 days battery life though? What is 1 day for you might be 0.75 days for someone else, all depends on use case. For some, that 55% might even last the whole of 2nd day. So the extra battery life will always get a higher priority in my checklist. Speaking about me, I more often than not will miss out charging at night coz I will doze off while using my phone. So will be struggling to charge it in the morning before I leave. On the other hand, my wife has the luxury to conveniently forget to charge every night coz she knows she will get solid 2+ days of usage out of her iPhone 12 pro. :|

            • @ggbhai: I get your point, I just think the whole "two day battery life" thing is silly though.

What I should have actually addressed in my initial response is that the pixel 5 certainly isn't lasting 50% longer than the pixel 6. So there really isn't a whole "days" difference in battery life, it might last 10% longer or something at best going off the comparison between 6 pro v 5 battery life.

        • Yup don't forget unlimited HQ photos upload as a bonus. I just take photos whenever and don't need to worry about storage at all. Syncs to my Google Nest whatnot for slideshows. Don't need to pay Google sub for storage

        • +1

The Pixel 5 is a great device for sure, I had one for a year. Sold it for $85 less than I paid (take that Apple :) ) after that year. Anyway I'm finding my battery life on the Pixel 6 Pro to be at least as good as the Pixel 5. I don't believe there's any cause for concern on that front.

      • +6

Unless you want flagship performance and telephoto camera (on Pro), most reviewers actually said to skip out Pixel 6 if you already have 5. I have decided to do the same even if I can technically got the Pixel 6 Pro for 'free' (JB trade in bonus + $800 gift card from ANZ credit card churning).

The Pixel 6 has many problems right now:
Slow finger print, like Google is using first gen Optical fps or something. Even mid range phones with one is faster and more accurate.
The first Tensor chip has OK performance but uses too much battery, A75 core and outdated 5G modem to blame.
Camera processing still needs a lot of refining. Obviously this is first time since Pixel 2 that Google uses new hardware so it takes more time to mature.
Other problem like dead fps when battery run out, ghost dialing (fixed?) etc

Best wait for Pixel 7 and see if Google can address these issues.

        • +1

Snapdragon is still leaps and bounds ahead of Google in house chip. SD765 even though slower, but technically much more optimised and 2 days worth of battery is not to be missed on Pixel 5

        • It's actually quite incredible how much they've managed to screw up the fingerprint reader. On a side by side comparison of the Pixel 6 Pro compared to my 3 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the Huawei destroyed it.

          • -3

@wearytraveller: The slow speed of the fingerprint sensor is on purpose. The software is doing extra security things with Google algo and cloud in the background.

          • @wearytraveller: For the specs, but not the software. Vanilla Pixel is great

          • @wearytraveller: i am using Mate 20 Pro. Need to charge the battery everyday.

Chat with huawei CS, they suggests cost for battery replacement is 59 (offer till end of the year).

Do you think is worth to change the battery?

            • @dts88: @dts88 Definitely. I just changed mine and will probably hang onto the phone for a couple more years.

        • +4

Interesting about the battery. I upgraded from the 3 to the 6 and have been shocked at the battery life. Granted I'm a pretty light user but where the 3 would give me one day at most, usually on battery saver mode by the end, I'm easily getting 2 on the 6. Literally stopped charging nightly atm cause it's never lower than 60% or so when I'm going to bed.

          • @bananafish05: I'm seeing the complete opposite on mine. I'm a light user and my 4-yr old Pixel 2XL could just make a full day but my Pixel 6 is barely any better. Seeing some similar reports elsewhere and I'm quietly telling myself it's due to the software still "learning" user habits in order to optimise the battery.

            Time will tell.

            • @dunnyboy: The mixed results are likely down to the less efficient 5G chip, meaning the Pixel 6 will perform well if on wifi all day, and poorly if on mobile data (with significant data usage) all day.

        • +2

Have the 6 Pro for just over 2 weeks

Amazing buttery smooth screen, the best Android experience (has been since the Nexus models so you already know that), camera is excellent as usual, get about 2 days of battery at full charge, has a nice premium weight about it

Bonus: Get loads of comments from random people on the street and shopping mall asking if it's the new Pixel. Definitely a head-turner

        • +1

Google just released a OTA update for the fingerprint reader for the USA and japan(coming to aus in the dec update). However you can sideload it now. I just did it and I now have no issues, works everytime and also a bit quicker too

    • Waiting for a good deal on eBay for pre-owned Pixel 5 so I can upgrade from my P3. Still like the small form factor for one handed use.

      • The Sony xperia 5 III is small form factor or zenfone 8 by asus but zenfone 8 has battery issue probably SD888 battery drain and xperia is $1399 import only

    Boxing day sneak peak page

    https://store.google.com/au/?hl=en-GB

    • Huh?

      • Yeah it's very generalised marketing. Not much to know except getting you to sub the their emails

  • +2

Really bummed at the lack of colour options on the Pixel 6 Pro for 256GB and 512GB options. Why Google, WHY?

    • I went dbrand for the first time because of the crap colours

      • Hadn't thought of that as an option. What skin did you get from dBrand?

        • +3

Whichever pattern you choose, just note there is only a rear skin, and there is no fore skin.

          You're welcome.

        • I tried to replicate a Gulf livery

@giventofly: Should have tried the teenage mutant ninja Pixels. Looked fun in the tweet that dbrand shared

    • +1

You'll need to use a case anyway. This might be the slipperiest phone I've ever used. And it's fragile as hell. I don't expect it to survive any kinda drop small or big without the case. So just buy the black Pro in 256 or 512 options and put it in a awesome looking case.

PS: After two weeks of use I had to return the phone to JB for a faulty claim because the phone would frequently lose mobile network connection, drain more battery searching for mobile network, fingerprint sensor is slow, no face unlock like other android, slowest charging ever 2hrs to topup, auto brightness is shit, keeps on jumping up and down, almost always warm or hot even on normal use 35 C is normal temp, reaches 40C with YouTube Twitter and some web browsing, camera is good but quick opening, the processing and mode switching still needs refinement and don't forget the android 12 bugs.

      • Thanks for the feedback on the device - its a bit worrying to hear these issues. Hopefully it is just a case of you getting a dud (as most Pixels, especially the initial batches, seem to have build quality issues). I'd love to hear if you experience these issues after getting your replacement. Although I have read the situation about the slow battery charging - could just be Google's algorithm which may be fixe with an update in the future, or could just be Google being extra cautious to extend battery life. Hopefully the fingerprint speed is also increased with an update as I dont buy this rubbish that Google claim its because of security reasons its slow.

  • They've already made their margins on the regular Pixel 6 compared to the Pixel 6 Pro. This is from USD pricing.

  • I think there is already free bud with optus?

    • but can you get it outright with optus?

      • Valid point

      • no

    • That was only Pro version too.

  • Don't buy the USB-C 30W wall charger.

On a full charge you only save 10 minutes versus a 18W.

    https://www.androidauthority.com/google-pixel-6-charging-tes…

    • -1

the charger will probably be to specs after a future firmware update on your phone.

      • +4

I'd like to quote MKBHD here, "Never. Ever. Buy a tech product based on the promise of future software updates"

That's what he said for Tesla and it's promised features in the future but also applies to every other products who at launch so you this and that but won't give ot to you until certain future date because it's not ready.

        • -2

Dude its a charger. No one is going to wait until they sort the official charger out. Especially when it doesn't come with the phone.

These youtubers have all the tech sponsored everyday of the year. Of course they dont have to wait, they just pick and choose. Pixel 6 charger not ready, youtuber goes to s21 ultra. Different first world problems there

          • @fuzor: Just saying, you don't have to go buy the charger if you've already got a decent charger from other companies. And the December update still hasn't issued this so your comment about future update doesn't hold.

            • @sagrgar: Not many people have a usb c quick charger. If I’m going to buy one, I’d buy the official Google one. They have enough problems to sort out as is with the phone itself. I can understand if it won’t be in an update this year. But I never said anything about having it in 2021.

              • +1

@fuzor: unless you're coming from an iphone, pretty sure by 2021 everyone's got a type C charger. Pixel 1 has type C, now you figure.

                • @sagrgar: Not withstanding the fact that Iphone is a huge chunk of the market and Pixel counts for less than 5% of the smartphones market, a lot of third party android brands didnt give usb c chargers until very recently. A lot of people here like myself are still on the LG v30 and there was never a usb c charger.

    • It's a 30W PPS charger that can super fast charge Samsung Galaxy devices though. I won't need one since my power banks and desktop charger already do 45-100W PD with PPS.

      • Some of us grabbed the Zyron Charger flash deal on Amazon yesterday. Mine already arrived. Great little unit, US plug with AU, UK & EU clip-on adapters. Will grab another and leave in my bag for travel. Does PPS as well.

    • It's been tested that the charging curve seems to slow more aggressively after 50%. It really depends on what you're after because the 30 min to 50% is a valid claim

      • Yep. There's one very detailed charging comparison with all sorts of data on the internet. First 50% is quick, then it slows down. I think the last 15 or 5% takes like 30 mins to charge only.

BTW it takes 2hrs to charge from 15% to max on 20W charger. From experience

  • +1

Can you sign up GoogleOne for 1st month, place order to get 10% credit, pause it, get credit, unpause and then purchase another item with the credit?

    • I think I read that you need to be an active Google One subscriber at the time they calculate and distribute the credit

  • Kinda annoying.

Managed to save $70, but yet to receive the Pixel 6 Pro.

    • In the same boat - ordered 3 days after pixel release date (with $70 promo) and my delivery is 10 Dec…
Atm the delivery date is 16 Dec if I order now, so if the delivery dates are similar around the promo start date I might just cancel and reorder. Can wait one more week for a free pair of buds

      • I ordered on launch day, ETA pushed back to 1-2 December 🤷

      • Interesting, I ordered a 512GB P6P, coming Nov 25.

      • +1

Did you order the Pro? If so, you would also be getting $150 store credit (which you can then use to get the Buds) so it's worth it to just wait for that.
