Currently $336.15 with eBay Plus on eBay edit Just checked: currently expired, but there will be a Black friday promotion coming up end of the month.. Sellers have to fund 14% of the discount, so hopefully the price jacking isn't too insane.

Earn a $10 gift card too if you haven't already fulfilled the condition

Isn't the 11400 for cheaper or the 11600 for the same price a better buy? (I guess the iGPU in the 600 notwithstanding)

The only issue I have with entry level 11th gen is that it's a dead platform as a whole. With AM4 you still have access to Ryzen 3D-Vcache. So buying a 5600g now, will provide you with a beter entry level iGPU, until dGPU prices return to a reasonable level and also a CPU upgrade path in future, with an IPC uplift, if you wish to do so with a new dGPU.

There is going to be a refresh coming, yeah, but it feels wasteful to upgrade to a refresh on what is ultimately the same platform. I expect there would be a very minor percentage of people that would go from a 5600 to a "5650".

And even then, the 11400/11600 just offer better value, so even with a ~10% IPC gain you're still just even….and then you've gone and paid for two CPUs for some reason.

We all know you're pro AMD, but the value prop isn't there in this market segment currently (unless you're in a thermally constrained environment).

        • I tend to agree with everything you brought up.

I love AMD, their Ryzen success has made a tidy sum of money since 2016 and I definitely heavily invested in them continuing their success through the past few years.

I say all of this because, the CPU/MB package that Intel presents currently with 11th and 10th gen is way more attractive that what AMD can offer. Just consider the recent 10600k + SSD deal for $269, add to that a fairly decent B560 board and that package is quite competitive for a fairly low outlay.

Especially for those buying components in 2021, it's kinda disingenuous to state LGA1200 is dead, when at best case AM4 has one more single release cycle left. If we were using that line of thought, then buying anything which requires DDR4 would be a bad idea, because technically DDR4 is dead.

Edit: To be clear, a while ago, I used to be the guy who said Ryzen all things but right now for general gamers, the value prop isn't that great on AMD (atleast with the deals that we have been seeing). Now if we were to get the types of price cuts we are seeing from Microcenter over here, then I would be picking a few AMD cpus myself.

        • Just stating a fact that z590 has no upgrade path, beyond 11th gen, so not sure how I can be accused of being pro anybody by you using a blanket statement. I have no preference for multibillion dollar companies that want my hard earned money. Competition is good, otherwise we would still be stuck paying $1000+ for 6 core Intel CPU, like we did prior to 2017.

I'm not sure how you correlate z590 with DDR4. Considering that DDR4 support is available on Intel 12th gen in the DIY space, in addition to being utilised by other segments.

          • @shellshocked: Apologies mate, didn't mean to accuse anyone. Maybe commenting whilst being hangry might not be the best thing to do.

I agree competition is good, otherwise like you said we would probably still be stuck with 1000 buck cpu and quad cores for the masses. I guess my DDR4 analogy isn't the greatest but more of what I was trying to convey was that upgrade path's are a factor but there other factors to consider as well. Most importantly, price to performance.

Fairly obvious my commenting didn't come across that way and your right, it is a fact that at this moment LGA1200 doesn't have an upgrade path, whilst AM4 does.
