  • My banggood phone is due in the next few days, it's finally in Melbourne woo.

    Tracking of Banggood is attrocious.

I got the Redmi Note 10 pro 8g/128g for $417aud. split into 4 payments with paypal.

It was a choice between these 2 phones, but i went with the Amoled screen due to being able to see it in daylight.

edit: oh didn't realize this had an amoled too. Nice i would've gone with this instead, oh well too late now.

    • +1

it's only ever too late when it's OOS (or deal is over I guess)

    • When did you order it? Haven't gotten any updates from the tracking number for over a week

  • Any tips on the best bang for buck android phone deal? 5g not reqd.

Thought i'd share that i recently bought this phone from the ebay seller. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/373670674203?var=642704201163
the phone arrived quick it was definitely local shipping not from overseas and the phone works great no issues.
Just beware no warranty cause ebay…
    I paid $475 aud delivered.

    • Thanks mate, have you tried to see if VOLTE or VOWIFI works?

      • Hi Zack,
i would love to let you know, but my phone fell of my motorbike last night and is totalled :( i had a total of 1.5 days of usage hahahha so sad

    • +2

How'd you snag that price! In saying that, I'd probably pay the $20 more to deal with Amazon customer service instead of eBay seller.

      • +1

There was a 20% off ebay sale a few days ago

        • What was the ebay promo?

    • How did you get that price? I haven’t seen any deal posted on ozbargain recently at that price.

  • +2

Personally I prefer/value Amazon customer service over Banggood etc.

Personally I prefer a decent BJ over punching myself in the ballbag.

  • +1

any comments on this one vs Samsung S20 FE 5G which was just around $100 more per this admittedly expired deal

Samsung often refills the stock in a day or two. Keep checking and you would be able to get one.

    • +1

Slightly newer chipset on the F3

      https://nanoreview.net/en/phone-compare/xiaomi-poco-f3-vs-sa…
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sea89lCUyDo

I would say at that expired sale price I'd probably shell out for the Samsung more so for the expected support (Poco F3 will get Android 12 and 2 years of security updates but Samsung might be longer)

But with the S20 FE 5G at normal price, It's a no brainer…. F3 all day long.

    • +2

Local warranty (2 years), and VoLTE which works on all carriers. SD870 v SD865 most users won't notice, Samsung main + zoom lens is OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation).

      • +1

100% agreed if you can get it at that sale price but at $799 RRP the $300 saving outweighs the cons of the F3

Either way the chipset is overkill for 95% of users and you'll be able to run it smoothly for 2-3 years.
The camera quality on the Samsung is where the main difference is. From all accounts the Poco is fairly average

        • totally agree, on the shipset front, i don't play games, so i'd be content with a grand daddy SD625 level SoC and shell out money on screen, battery + NFC.

  • +3

If you want a cheaper 5G phone check out the Realme 8 on Amazon. It's now only $245 and imported from UK.

    • +1

waiting for black friday to see if it goes down even more

  • +3

what makes this phone very desirable is the custom ROM support, which is fantastic!

    • I agree, but credit to the excellent people at XDA and not Redmi. They merely took advantage of it and allowed it to happen.

There's three key specs missing from the Poco F3:
      - 3.5mm Headphone Jack
      - microSD slot
      - IP68 Waterproofing

They were so close. I mean it has a frigging IrDa blaster to change channels on your TV, and that feature had been lost for sometime. Xiaomi split those features to the X3 Pro and the Waterproofing to their higher-end "Mi 10 Pro" models. Also they could've addressed the notch issue like Meizu or Sony. The cameras are pretty meh. So this is a good phone, not a great phone, and far from being a perfect phone.

      • I'd bear in mind the price point they were trying to hit as well. It's more than likely your "perfect phone" won't be under $500AUD. :-p

        • That's true.
But a phone is more than just throwing more RAM, faster processor, or buzzwordy screen. And you can get a lot of the good experience part without paying top dollar for it, parts and budget wise.

  • F3 5G not on GSM Arena? Is 5G the only difference? 5G version doesn't appear to have the ulgy POCO logo either.

I really want my next phone to have wireless charging. Guessing I will have to pay flagship prices.

    • +1

5G bands are on the specs on GSM Arena.

Logo on the Blue version is different from the one on the Black and White versions. Check unboxing videos (plenty available) rather than the pictures for a better idea. Reality is most people would chuck a case on their phones anyways these days won't they (I know that's what I usually do).

      • I don't mind a clear case that still shows the back of the phone but yeah that is definitely a work around… at the end of the day it is in the phone manufacturer's best interest to make their phones aesthetically pleasing.

  • Tempting but got the Oppo find x2 neo for ridiculous price. Waiting for something with eirelee charging.

    • +1

Where from and what price is your Oppo Find X2 neo please? Care to share please. Thank you.

      • Was back in July ~$400

        • Thank you.

    • +1

Dual Sim is the kicker for me. I'm waiting for the find X3 range to be discounted. Haha.

  • No AV1 encoding.
    Deal breaker

    • Not really.

h.265 (HEVC) is better at the moment, because it's more supported, used by DRM content, and it is encoded/decoded by most hardware out there. But h.264 is EVERYWHERE. However, you don't get hevc on open-source such as the Raspberry Pi.

AV1 is only better in-theory. It isn't even that stable on Firefox or Chromium right now. It's completely absent from the Apple A14, A15, M1, M1p, M1X. When Apple announces it, you'll see the rest of the industry race to do the same. There's also Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and MediaTek (cheaper appliances) that need to get on board with proper hardware support. Otherwise, it will be software-encoded (and decoded) by most devices… which makes it slower and less efficient than the other mainstream options.

AV1 was only announced in 2018, so it's fairly new. Normally it would be mainstream after 3 years timeframe. Due to covid, you can add 2 more years to that…. so a really safe bet will be 2023. It's kind of like 5G(mmWave) support… you don't need it now, it is a nice-to-have, and it will be mainstream in a few years. But by that time these devices will stop getting software updates, and the hardware will be halfway obsolete.

    holding out for black friday

  • This F3 or redmi note 10 pro? similar price, wonder why pick the F3, seems that the redmi has an awesome camera… that's the only thing I care in a phone

    • +1

I've been fairly wasteful in buying one of each:
Redmi K30 5g - Chinese version with custom rom - no updates without potentially losing stuff so not ideal but fairly decent phone otherwise
Redmi Note 10 Pro - feels lighter in the hand somehow and very good cameras - slower processor but does the job well - doesn't feel slow and battery life is great - also dual sim and sd card (i.e. not 1 sim if you want to put sd card in - ideal for travel!)
Poco X3 - faster processor than the above - cameras still decent enough - not used enough as of yet
Poco F3 (still waiting on it arriving - banggood 11.11 order)

      • Thanks, appreciated

  • There are 4 reviews saying there was no phone in the box.

Sister urgently needs an upgrade from her S8 Plus, but this makes me skeptical.

  • Is a pixel 6 worth double the price?? What are the benefits of a pixel 6…

    • Erm.. you can't really be comparing mobiles in totally different classes right?

Might as well compare to the Samsung Fold3.. definitely is worth the price but if you're shopping for a Fold3 you wouldn't be looking at the Poco. Same logic for the Pixel.

      • It's a pretty valid question. What benefits does a class A device have over a class B device, does it justify the near double price?

Both have pretty awesome SoCs with the AI processing advantage going to the pixel.
Pixel will have better support, updates etc

I don't know much else, but that's a start to OPs questions.

If you don't care much about the AI and camera differences then the Poco is an awesome deal.

Bought the phone from Ebay few days back.
    Pros:
    Good screen
    Good speed 4G+
    Camera is good for price
COD games play highest quality without breaking a sweat
    Cons:
Rounded corner in screen is bad
Xioami rom has so much bloatware and ads (Cleaner etc)
Bluetooth headphone does not show battery level
    No SD Card support
    Very happy with phone overall

    • Thanks for your quick review.

  • How is the 2 year warranty works?

  • +1

Love this phone! Using for last few months and couldn't be happier, amazing battery life compared to my samsung s20 exynos and the screen is awesome. Never paying for a full price samsung or iPhone again.

  • Does this phone have dual Sim?

    • It supports Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by).

  • How's this compare to x2 pro 5G? Jb is selling for $699

    • It depends on the specs that matter for you.

For me it's "newer" hardware, 30% cheaper, has dual Sim. Those are important to me..but maybe not you haha.

I also don't care much about camera, and I'm comfortable playing around with software.

Cashrewards confirmed a $17.87 cashback tracked as well (took a while though).

  • Guys, I found this again on promotion in Bang good (Link: https://au.banggood.com/POCO-F3-Global-Version-6_67-inch-120…).

    How about the warranty?

    • +1

I'd rather pay the little bit extra and get the 2 Years Warranty from Amazon

      • That's right. It's a good idea. :)

    • +1

What's it work out to be with the conversion? About $470? For $20, I'd go with Amazon (even less difference if the cashback tracks)

      • Yea that's right. Many are suggesting Amazon. Do you think the price will go low ? :)

  • its currently labelled under black friday sale, so wondering if this is as low as it'll go

  • +2

Seems like all versions are now sold out.
