Samsung S20 FE 5G 128GB $584.35 ($534.35 with $50 Voucher for Newsletter Signup) @ Samsung Education Store

2450

Samsung S20 FE 5G is one of very best phones available in the market with Snapdragon 865 processor.

I purchased it a year ago and I have got nothing to complain.

6.5" display with 120Hz refresh rate, 3x Optical zoom from rear cam, 32MP front cam, 4500mAh battery, Qi wireless charging and reverse charging are its assets. Night mode works so good.

Now there is a huge price drop as Samsung might announce S21 FE soon. Nonetheless, $584 is a bargain for this one.

Cheers

If I'm not mistaken, the 865 isn't the newest Snapdragon chipset anymore; in saying that, it will still hold up completely fine for the average user.

    • +7

Yeah. Good for anybody who doesn't want to pay $1000 or maybe more for latest Snapdragon 888.

    • +13

Yeah not the latest, but it’s better than the 888 in many ways. The 888 is getting TOO hot, therefore you get a hotter phone, shorter battery life, and worse performance in games due to thermal throttle. At the moment the best android SoC is the 870, that’s basically 865++. But the issue with 870 is there is no flagship phones using it. So buying a 865 phone with matching flagship components is acutely better currently before we know how the 898 is doing. Which will come out in a month time.

      • +2

Have the Poco F3 for nearly six months now with the SD870. Cameras serviceable, but the Sammy here is a better deal for local warranty and all that jazZ

      • My S20 5G overheats quickly outdoors when using the camera. Screen goes dim and won't come back up until it cools down. Apparently it's a thing with this phone. But that's the only time it seems to do it.

        • That is Not good ……… i was considering this Phone

been overall pretty Happy with the Mi9 ….

    • +1

888 is the newest, 865 should be fine. I got 855 which is still running fast

    • +8

If you're buying strictly for the processor and not Samsung's long update support, camera technology and interface, then yeah Poco is cheaper.

      • +4

        Long update support LOL

        • +1

          Couldn’t agree more.

    • +13

      Lol no

    • -1

LOL. I'm telling you knowing it from a friend, don't buy POCO. It only lasts for 2 years, no more that.

    • It is a shame that people forgot downvotes are supposed to be used to penalize off-topic and not to punish unpopular opinions, not to create echo chambers.

  • +3

Absolute steal at this price! bought 2 during the $629 pricing last year and very few compromises for what it can do.

Do find 5g drinks battery compared to 4g, but as very few 5g towers at present I leave that off as not noticed a performance hit from 4g vs 5g in my area yet.

That's probably a radio thing so will be similar for all 4g/5g handsets.

  • Will the loyalty voucher $100/200 work on these?

    • +1

From my understanding the $100 and $200 can only be used for S21.

    • Not sure, mate. Just apply your voucher at the check out and see.

      • haha, i don't have the vouchers yet so wanted to check if I should go through the trouble of chatting up with the CS rep

    • +2

I think they only work on the main store and not the Education/ Employees store.

    • I was told not.

  • -3

    • +2

      link?

Can't find it free and the cheapest plan is still $65/month for 36 months which is not great…

      • i believe you already need to be in Voda for it.

    • +13

unless you already on voda and like them, 36 months with voda sounds like a terrible idea :(

    • I am with Vodafone, cant find it is free? care to share?

          • @Geneel: Looks like a good deal. What if u don't know anyone on Vodafone? Can you call them up and still get it?

            • +1

@BigTacoBandit: im not sure tbh. there's no harm in calling to see if they're open to it.

          • @Geneel: I called them and they said that they must speak with the person that received the offer. They said that they could confrence call me with the vodafone account holder and would not give me the offer unless that happened. It was worth a try ;)

Hows the vodafone network these days?

    • +2

Can confirm, I got it for free with my overpriced monthly plan locked in for 3 years

Could someone please share a screenshot of the store page showing the price (in red)?

    • +2

Its available only in blue on Edu store

    • Trying to get pp when you don't have access?

    • +4

Wow, today on OzMentalIllness, I get downvoted by a bunch of ding dongs with no explanation.

Yes, I'm after price protection, no, I don't have access.

      • I don't know why people are downvoting you. How strange.
I bought my s21 through the edu store and certainly plan on using my price protection on it.
I would have sent you a screenshot buy seems like I need to re-verify my edu email which I can't do right now unfortunately!

Also in several years of using price protection I have only been asked for proof once.

      • +5

Here's a screenshot, also in red.

  • +5

Surprised this is getting so many upvotes when surely most people interested in a samsung phone would have got the S21 series for $500-1000 during the trade up promo….

    • +10

      Exynos vs Snapdragon

    • +14

      this requires less effort

    • +3

provided you had a phone worth trading up. If not this is better. Also old phones lying around are great back ups and hand-me-downs.

      • Don’t have to send phone back. That promo is still running until tomorrow if someone is interested.

    • +3

Poor comment. Plenty of people may not have been in the market for a phone at the time.

    • +1

Of course Ozbargainers don't cling on the best bargain over and over right? This might be the next best thing without all the hassles

  • +2

how's the camera on this? thinking of getting it for the mrs

    • +1

I would get pixel 6 if you need a camera.

      • +3

double the price tho and the pixel 6 front camera is terrible (compared to my p5) :(

        • Hold up - P6 front camera is worse than P5?

      • I know Pixel software is great and now they're are upgrading hardware but seriously S20 FE isn't far away from Pixel and $500 cheaper.

    • +1

Would be perfect for you mrs. Great pics in my experience. Night mode is a killer.

      • +1

Killer good or killer bad? (asking for a friend…)

        • Seriously good. It will surprise you.

      • yeah do you mean killer/deal breaker or like really good shots at night lol

        • Really great shots at night. lol

    • +1

for this price i would not complain at all. However coming from an Oppo X2 Pro, I was not impressed by the S20 FE camera at all as the image quality and shooting experience are just not as good. But it is overall a great phone, I liked it a lot when I had it.

      • Damn was thinking of downgrading as oppo android auto is a bit slow for me personally. Wife's S21 super seamless for Android auto.

Not sure if I should try it and if not happy, sell..

        • I mean, it’s very good overall, but I’ve used quite a few recent Android flagships and I could certainly tell the difference while shooting, but they cost at least double… For this price it’s a no brainer.

          • @jnbluv2h: Fair enough. Was lucky enough to pick up my x2 for $750 512gb…so I guess I'll stick with it overall. It is fast and has a good camera indeed. Wireles charging is a shame as it's missed but not the end of the world. Just wish it was better compatible for AA.

            • @IamaCam: I’d say if Android Auto really matters much to you then I’d probably suggest you to buy this, daily experience will be much better. S20 FE camera isn’t as good but if Oppo camera is rated 95/100, this camera is probably 75-80/100. Oppo phones drop value even more quickly and yeah x2 is lacking wireless charging so resale value wise it isn’t that future proof (shame that it’s got so good spec and a killing camera). I switched to Oppo X3 Pro and was happy, however I don’t use AA so can’t comment on that.

              • @jnbluv2h: No probs thanks for the insight. First time oppo user and not surprised about drop in value. Been great so far , can't beat the specs for the price I paid..wish the x3 pro was in reach but just not worth the double price for me :)

    • Excellent photos IMO, this was rated as the best overall phone of its year by MKBHD. Check the S20FE subreddit for example shots

    • +1

Average at best. I used to have a Huawei Mate 20 Pro which absolutely kills this camera. Am actually looking to upgrade mostly for a better camera. But it's an awesome phone otherwise (except for crap battery life on 120 refresh rate) - no complaints.

  • Is the non 5G model on sale as well?

    • +1

      $519.35 for the 4g model

    • Isn't that model Exynos though?

      • +2

No, they refreshed the 4G model to also use Snapdragon!

  • Whats the normal price of it ? Was thinking to buy pixel 6 and waiting for deal, now I am hesitating …

    • OW an JB Hi-Fi selling for $800

      • i see, thanks, not sure which should choose, pixel 6 or this one…

        • -1

I am sticking with Samsung as it has Snapdragon.

Still not a fan of Exynos which is what the Pixel 6 uses.

          • +1

@Xishnik: pixel 6 uses Exynos? i thought it used its own tensor chip

            • +1

@truebunny: It is a modified Exynos that they call Tensor. It is still an Exynos chip though.

              • @Xishnik: fwiw i am using P6pro and am loving the performance. No lag anywhere. Google has modified it well.

  • +1

only for student email address? how i get around that , soz prob dumb Q. have the Galaxy A70 its fine but this price is phenom!!!! so want it

    • Haha. You might have to ask one of your friends n fam who has a valid student email.

    • +2

Become a student, or find someone with an email ending in .edu?

    • I would like to know this too. I have a student (two in fact ;) and want to get this for one of them… they have a .edu.au email address, but its through Google Classroom (or whatever its called), and doesn't send/receive email outside of the school's domain. Which is fair enough (good thing, I guess). If there's any other way I can get them this edu discount, I'd love to know it :)

  • So you need to be a student or employee to have access to it?
How can I buy this without the edu.au email?
Looking for a gift to my inlaw for Christmas.

    • If possible, you could ask someone you know with a valid student email to buy on your behalf.

    • There's no easy way unless you know someone who has a edu.au email address and is prepared to let you register and buy through their account. Any uni or school student would do.

  • Can anyone post a screenshot of their cart for price protection claim please?
    I'm out of $50 coupons

  • +2

Dayum! That screen is as big as me :D (6'5" in the description)

    • lol

    • +3

      Note that it's measured diagonally.

  • +1

Been using this machine since long and don't have a single complaint.
    Grab at this price.

  • +1

Any issue with the touch screen?

    • Zero issues.

I would have not posted this if I don't think is one of the best phones available is that price bracket.

    • I have ghost touch issues and I'm returning it. It's not a non issue like the other user suggested.

      • I don't know but maybe 1 in 100 might have issues. You can always return or replace it if you buy from stores in Oz or Samsung au store.

        • +1

I'm going back to xiaomi. Not gonna bother with a replacement. Not good enough imo. Big pain in the ass to faff around with replacements. Takes me half a day to switch phones and all the faff. Not happy.

          • +1

@bbbargain: I have a Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC and I've seen reports about ghost touches in the latest firmware. This of course will take Xiaomi forever to fix. If you need actual support, go for Samsung.
I haven't applied this latest update so I'm not impacted.

            • +1

@vrsac: I have a POCO F3 5G which doesn't suffer from the ghost touch, I'd pick that if you're looking for a competitor to the S20 FE 5G.

    • I know ghost touches had been an issue for many but personally not for me in the almost 1 year of having mine (tested thoroughly with touch screen test app)

    • +1

People in the Whirlpool thread are reporting a resurgence of touch screen issues after the latest update. Still too many reports for me to pull the trigger.
