10x Everyday Rewards Points with Selected OnlyONE Visa Gift Card Purchases ($5.95 / $7.95 Purchase Fee May Apply) @ Woolworths

191

Based on page 35 of this week's catalogue and in-store posters, there are two types of gift cards that are part of this week's gift card offer:

Category Visa Gift Cards Prepaid Visa Gift Cards
No Purchase Fee Applies $5.95 or $7.95 Purchase Fee Applies
Dining Gift Card Visa Green Gift Card (See Note 1)
Fast Food Gift Card Visa Congrats Gift Card
Home Improvement, DIY & Tradie Gift Card Visa Birthday Gift Card
Night Out Gift Card
Spa & Beauty Gift Card

A WARNING REGARDING THE PREPAID VISA GIFT CARDS:

  • NOTE 1 — Please note that the Variable Load $25-$500 Visa Green gift card does not immediately earn any points at the checkout. I purchased a variable load Visa Green gift card (the one with the new packaging) with $500 loaded onto it, but received zero points. However, the Everyday Rewards team confirmed that all denominations of the Visa Green gift card are eligible for bonus points, as long as it is purchased during the promotion period and the Everyday Rewards card was scanned before the transaction was finalised. It will likely require follow-up with the Everyday Rewards team to get the bonus points for the Visa Green gift card and there is a risk that the team provided wrong information, so proceed with caution.

  • NOTE 2 — Do not purchase the prepaid Visa gift card in the old packaging. I scanned one of these gift cards as well, and the checkout showed zero points. The Everyday Rewards team also confirmed it is not part of this deal. If you are interested in the prepaid Visa gift cards, ask the staff if they have the prepaid Visa gift card in the new packaging stored somewhere.

Additional notes:

  • This deal requires an Everyday Rewards account. If you do not have an Everyday Rewards account, use this link to get 1,500 bonus points as a sign-up bonus. The sign-up bonus points can take up to 30 business days to be credited to your account. If you sign into your new account through the Everyday Rewards app, you will get a special booster offer for 1,000 bonus points for shopping at Woolworths.

  • The category Visa gift cards can only be redeemed at merchants with specific Merchant Category Codes (MCCs)1 (similar to The Cinema, Pub & Bar, Restaurant and Pamper Gift Cards from TCN). Please refer to the link in the table above for a list of permitted MCCs for each category gift card.

  • The prepaid Visa gift card in this deal is only accepted at merchants who accept prepaid gift cards. Examples of merchants who do not accept prepaid gift cards include Suncorp Benefits, Menulog, Cashrewards' gift card portal and Woolworths Group’s gift card portal.2

  • For those of you who are wary of prepaid Visa/MC gift cards after the recent (likely) BIN attacks on Coles Gift Mastercards (and I don't blame you), the upshot is that Indue (the card issuer, and yes, they are the same card issuer as Coles Gift Mastercards) allows you to dispute any fraudulent transactions.

  • You cannot use EFTPOS gift cards with a card number starting with 5021 to pay for these gift cards at Woolworths. I tried this myself and was greeted with an Items Not Allowed error.3 I have not tested buying a prepaid Visa gift card using another prepaid Visa gift card, but it's safe to assume Woolworths has blocked that too.

  • If you have another question (e.g. can I use multiple cards to pay for gift cards, can I use Everyday Rewards Dollars to pay for gift cards), please check the FAQ page for gift card deals, as the answer may already be on that page!

Offer terms and conditions:

  • Offer available from 17/11/21 to 23/11/21 on all denominations of gift cards pictured in Woolworths supermarkets, Woolworths Metro and Woolworths MetroGo only, while stocks last.

  • Excludes Woolworths Online and Ampol Woolworths Metro.

  • Standard points will not be earned on amount spent on gift cards, but the relevant number of bonus points which you qualify for under this offer.

  • Bonus points can take up to 14 business days to be loaded onto your Everyday Rewards Card from date of purchase.

  • Refer to individual cards for their terms and conditions.

  • Limit of 10 cards per transaction and one transaction per day per Rewards Member.

  • Selected OnlyONE Visa and Visa Everywhere gift cards are subject to a purchase fee of $5.95 (or $7.95).

As a reminder, 2,000 Everyday Rewards points is equivalent to $10 in Everyday Rewards Dollars or 1,000 Qantas points.

  1. MCCs are four-digit numbers (as outlined in ISO 18425) assigned to merchants to categorise the type of goods or services provided by the merchant.

  2. The reason for this is some merchants require 3D Secure, which enables a payment processor to verify billing addresses and request two-factor authentication codes (where required). Prepaid Visa/MC gift cards are designed to be non-reloadable, disposable cards, so enabling support for 3D Secure would cost too much for card issuers.

  3. The reason is to stop team members from utilising their 5% off discount on (nearly all) gift cards at Woolworths and use an EFTPOS gift card to pay for an OnlyONE Visa gift card and then continue the cycle and attempt to profit off it…

  • A $500 home improvement card is good value for anyone that likes to shop at Bunnings.

The only other one worth getting is a $500 variable load green card but it seems to be a gamble as to whether that is included in the promo. It appears that it may not be if the points are not loading at the time of purchase.

    • +1

The link says all denominations and loaded within 14 days… The OP says he got a preloaded $500. I think OP is fine.

      So $500 costs 7.95, gives 5000 ($25)

      • "All denominations" could mean fixed denominations only and might exclude the variable load card.

Woolworths will probably give the bonus points anyway if you complain but not sure I can be bothered complaining.

        • Woolworths has been careful in previous promotions to specifically exclude variable load gift cards if they were excluded from the deal.

For example, the terms for Woolworths' iTunes gift card deals (towards the end of the gift card's life in Australia) specifically excluded the variable load iTunes gift cards.

      • The way I read the poster when I saw it in person is that but any denomination and you get a fixed 500 points.

The second poster/image shows the 10x points only applies to the home improvement and food gift cards.

I’ll be happy to be wrong

      • the $500 Visa Green card doesn't have bonus points. ONLY cards in the photo is eligible which is $100 Visa Green with $5.95 fee. Not worth it since you will only get back $5 (1000pts)

The other card should not have fee but it is either for Dining or Trade shop only.

    • A $500 home improvement card is good value for anyone that likes to shop at Bunnings.

I spoke to another OzBargainer who bought a Home Improvement card, and they were immediately credited the bonus points.

The only other one worth getting is a $500 variable load green card but it seems to be a gamble as to whether that is included in the promo.

I think it is, as both the in-store poster and the catalogue indicate it is. If I don’t get the bonus points after 14 business days, I’ll talk to the Everyday Rewards team and claim it’s misleading advertising. In my experience, the Everyday Rewards team are good at resolving those kind of issues.

It appears that it may not be if the points are not loading at the time of purchase.

It’s unusual, but no unheard of for Woolworths promotions.

      • -1

Dreaming if you think the ad wording relates to the variable load Visa! Sure, no issue with variable home improvement card! You might get the points for the Visa after crying foul after 14 days. Is it worth it for $17, nope!

        • +1

          I disagree.

Woolworths has been careful in previous promotions to specifically exclude variable load gift cards in the terms if they were excluded from the deal. For example, the terms for Woolworths' iTunes gift card deals (towards the end of the gift card's life in Australia) specifically excluded the variable load iTunes gift cards.

There is also no mention of “fixed” denominations in the terms, so I’m not sure how you reached the conclusion that the variable load gift card is excluded.

          • @WookieMonster: you should not post something that you assume, go to the shop and try it, the bonus point will show on the screen. Variable Load Visa Green card do not get any bonus points.

            • +1

@samehada: I called the Everyday Rewards team about this campaign this morning, and I was told that all denominations of the Visa Green gift card (including the variable load gift card) are eligible for this bonus points promotion, as it is not listed as an exclusion in the catalogue. I was also told if the bonus points don't show up after 14 business days, the Everyday Rewards team can manually adjust the account. They also said the Visa gift cards in the old packaging are excluded.

That is why I am happy to post this as a deal, but if you think it is not worth posting this as a deal, I am happy for you to report it and have this deal taken down.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: If the bonus points is not showing at the time of purchase, it means you will need to waste time to chase it up, not worth it. You should highlighted that ppl will need to gamble it and chase it up to get the bonus points in the post.

                • @samehada: I read the op as soon as posted. I read that he bought $500 and it did not come up on screen or receipt, and that there was assumption.

    • +1

I had a photo taken in store and was clearly stated will have 10x bonus points during this promotion period.

  • +2

Such a long post, but you are essentially saying buying the new packaged VISA Onlyone, $500 for $505.95(or is it 507.95?) and you get 5,000 points (worth $25)

Did you see the points on screen on the self check out screen?

    • you are essentially saying buying the new packaged VISA Onlyone, $500 for $505.95(or is it 507.95?) and you get 5,000 points (worth $25)

Yes. I’m a lot less willing to take a gamble on the cards with the old packaging.

Did you see the points on screen on the self check out screen?

No. The checkout screen and the receipt show zero points.

      • Thanks WookieMonster. Did you see any difference on receipt when you bought new vs old Visa GC? Asking would WW Rewards guys know which one you bought at the time of escalation (if you don’t get points within 14 days)

        • I actually didn't buy the gift card in the old packaging in the end, only the one in the new packaging.

When I scanned the old and new Visa GCs, they both came up with GC Visa Variable on the checkout, and my receipt for the new one says Gift Card Visa Varbl 25to500Dollars.

I think the Everyday Rewards team can tell whether you bought the old vs new Visa GC.

          • They should have the ability to see the PLU (Product Look-Up) number for the items you bought, because they once told me that I was not awarded bonus points from a bonus points booster, as it was for a specific item with a specific PLU number, and the item I bought had a different PLU number, because items with the same description sold at Woolworths supermarkets and Woolworths Metro stores can have different PLU numbers.
          • I have a very strong suspicion that the PLU number for the old vs new Visa GCs have changed. The reason I say that is another OzBargainer told me they tried to purchase the new Visa GC using a team member discount, but there was no discount applied. However, the old Visa GC should be discounted by 5% if you scan a team member discount.

I also called the Everyday Rewards team about this, and I was told that all denominations of the new Visa GC are eligible for this bonus points promotion, and if they don't show up after 14 business days, the Everyday Rewards team can manually adjust the account. They also said the old Visa GC is excluded from the offer, because it is not pictured in the catalogue.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks mate for the clarification. I was about to bite the bullet with the old variable but won’t do it now.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: My local woolies didnt have those new GC packaging. I was stupid enough to gamble, bought the old variable ones with $500 on it.
Paid $507.95 Got no rewards points.

My receipt says Gift Card Visa Varbl 25to500Dollars too (on older packaging of these Only1visa GC). So have my past receipts for this particular Only1Visa Prepaid Gift Cards

Tried talking to the rewards team, may be the girl was not knowledgeable enough told me that only earn bonus points for GC's. I told her its in the pg 35. She said if so I will get the points within 14 days of purchase, if I don't then I may need to contact everyday rewards team for this manual processing of points. She didn't say anything like I purchased older packaging GC card, Nor did I to her

            If

my receipt for the new one says Gift Card Visa Varbl 25to500Dollars

is true then may be using older packaging to claim that you bought the newer packaging ones may actually work out (with manual processing by Everyday rewards customer service team)

    • +1

you get 0 bonus pts for Variable Load Green card, don't waste your time.

      • +1

Correct. Only $100 green gives you 10x points. Not variable load.

  • +1

But gift cards are excluded from earning points so 10x 0 = 0 points.
    From their site:
“What products are excluded from collecting points?
No points will be collected on smoking products, gift cards….. “

And even if it does 10points =5c and fee is $5.95 so on values upto $100 points don't even cover the fee.

    • +1

That’s true for standard points, but you overlooked this clause in the offer terms and conditions:

Standard points will not be earned on amount spent on gift cards, but the relevant number of bonus points which you qualify for under this offer.

You’re right that the $50 or $100 denominations are not really worth buying, but I cut this sentence from the deal post…

This deal is only really a “deal” in my eyes if you load at least $159 on a prepaid Visa gift card, as the bonus points you earn from purchasing a $159 gift card will have an equivalent value of the $7.95 gift card purchase fee.

  • +1

I'm so confused. The images above don't show only 1 green with 10x points. Only 500 points. How are you coming to the conclusion that that will give 10x points?

    • Page 35 of the weekly catalogue states all denominations of the OnlyONE Visa Green card will earn 10x points.

      • +1

Ahh ok ta. At least they have made it clear 🤣

      • +2

actually it says ‘all denominations pictured’ ie. only the $100 visa green

        • No, it literally says in the terms:

all denominations of gift cards pictured

That means that for all the gift cards pictured in the catalogue, all denominations will earn 10x bonus points. If specific denominations were excluded, Woolworths would exclude them in the terms.

  • +1

can any of these cards be used with Beem it or sniip?

    • Sniip

      • It is still up to merchant's acceptance, e.g. Zip does not accept Prepaid card via Sniip.

        • Zip does not accept Prepaid card

Found it hard way. account put on hold by multiple payment tries with disposable revolut cards

  • -2

This is not a deal.. those activation is more than the points you earn…

    • How so?

The Category Visa Gift Cards have no purchase fee and credit bonus points to your account immediately. Two different have confirmed to me the DIY Visa gift card earns zero purchase fee and they earned 10x bonus points. In that case, the $0 purchase fee is definitely less than the value of the points you earn from that gift card.

It is true that the $50 and $100 prepaid Visa gift cards are of poor value, as the purchase fee outweighs the number of points you earn. It is also true that the purchase fee of the variable load Visa Green gift card is more than the zero points I earned from that transaction, but the Everyday Rewards team confirmed that it is part of the promotion. I get it that a lot of people won't bother with getting a variable load gift card, because it is looking likely you'd need to contact the Everyday Rewards team in mid-December for your bonus points, so if that is too much hassle for you to get 5,000 bonus points, fair enough.

  • +3

Thats really a good find mate. I only have an Amex credit card, and find it annoying that its not accepted at a lot of places. Now i can buy the visa gc using amex and problem solved.
    Thanks

    • +1

      … and that's why I bought a $500 card for myself!

Just make sure you buy the prepaid Visa gift card in the new packaging, not the old packaging. If you cannot find the prepaid Visa gift card with the new packaging, ask the staff to see if it is hidden somewhere. The duty manager kindly went into the "secret" cabinet behind the gift card shelf and eventually found a bundle of the prepaid Visa gift cards in the new packaging and handed me one.

      • And did that variable card earn you Bonus everyday rewards dollars?

  • How do you know which stores accept the specifically labelled cards such as 'Home Improvement, DIY & Tradie Gift Card' or 'Night Out Gift Card'? I recall previous reports that similar cards weren't being accepted at places that clearly met the general definition of the description..

    • Team discount does not apply to the Home Improve one. Tighten-up is on the way. Not sure it is just for the new cards as I havent tested others.

      • +1

I went in today and tried the visa 1 $500 and the new green visa $500 and as well as the perfect eftpos gift card and none of them gave me the 5% team discount . The lady at the checkout said they stopped the team discount for these cards as of yesterday . Wished I stocked up earlier .

        • Thanks for the report. There was a short period last year during which the team discount was removed for giftcard. It may be permanent this time. TBH, it is fair to remove it. I think it could be the main barrier why Amazon giftcard has not appeared on Woolies' giftcard rack.

    • +1

The biggest problem is that you won't know unless:

      • You try the gift card at a store that you reasonably believe to fit the general definition of one of the permitted Merchant Category Codes (MCCs), or
      • You ask the store what MCCs they use on their EFTPOS terminal.

The issue with the second point is that the vast majority of staff at a business won't know what an MCC is, and even if you eventually talk to someone who can talk to their bank to confirm the MCCs assigned to them, it would likely take some time before you get an answer.

The other issue with these gift cards is that the store or merchant may have asked their bank to block these types of gift cards, and you probably won't ever know whether your gift card was declined due to the MCC being incorrect or the merchant refusing to accept these kind of gift cards.

      • +1

Thanks. This is as i thought. I'll avoid these types of cards.

  • Only old packaging Visa gift cards in my local Woolworths.

    • -1

check the product barcode of the old and new packaging, if it is the same then it is just same product.

      • You most likely need will need a few cards (and barcode inside the cardboard packaging ) to be able to see some sort of similarity in numbers.

I dont think looking at outside barcodes will give much clue

        • Product barcode is the one on the top right corner, it is not the long barcode that you think. Usually it is also on first part of the long barcode.

The packaging can change but if it is the same barcode then it is just the same product in the system.

      • There is no new packaging to compare with the old ones, the only ones which are available.

        • I have seen both of those cards old and new packaging in different WW, since it didn't give bonus points for both so I didn't bother to check the product barcode.

  • +1

Anyone thought that it is a totally different product and company (not just packaging different) than Other one you are thinking of

    e.g. I meant there's a difference between ONLY1 and OnlyONE ( At least alphabetically)

My guess is it's a totally different card, may be different company too

    Even their website is different

    onlyonegiftcard.com.au vs only1visagiftcard.com.au

    • +1

      only1giftcard.com.au for the original version.

      everywheregiftcards.com.au may be discontinued.

      • I wonder what's next onlyagiftcard.com.au ?

  • I went to my local woolies, scanned the $100 visa prepaid gift card with old packaging, and it showed me 1000 bonus points on my screen. I then tried the variable visa gift card with old packaging ($500) and it showed me nothing on screen (no points). Spoke to one of the team members in store, and they advised that the bonus offer is only for $100 visa prepaid, regardless of packaging.

    • +1

On $100 one will just loose money.

    • Same I bought both old packaging's $500 Variable load for $507.95 (got no ED Rewards Points) and $100 card for $105.95 (100 ED Rewards Points).

To me seems like there's no difference between old or new packaging or something along those lines.
The problem seems to be that variable ones are excluded from deal by not mentioning it.
But certainly agree with this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11364162/redir

Make sure everyone to complain to Woolworths & Everyday Rewards team that this is not acceptable, may be stop shopping with them for some time to punish them for this behavior. If they honor it then just go back to normal but still complain for unacceptable behavior.

I have a feeling they wont honor it. And in that case certainly shall punish them.

I personally needed an intermediate payment to be eligible for government/essentials transactions for CC minimum spend. So it shall be worth while eventually.

Already happy with Coles Mobile, and grocery cheaper @Drakes/Aldi most of time (better than getting any 10% of from woolies mobile discount once a month)

  • Does anyone have experience with the night out gift cards? Looks good and wondering if it is accepted at all restaurants like TCN restaurant cards

    • Whatever, It's nearly only 5% cash back. Wait for $100 get 2000 points.

  • I went 3 Woolworths today, I couldn’t find those green $500 visa card. I only find old packaging $25-$500 variable visa card. Asked manager in counter, they all said that they don’t have those cards in stock yet. Probably next week.

  • +1

Thanks OP, my local Woolies had the new Visa variable cards(hidden behind the old ones on the rack). loaded up with a few hundred to meet my AmEx credit card minimum spend and will wait and see if I get credited the points

  • Has anyone received the points yet (within 14 days)? It was day 14th for me but nothing so far 🙁

  • Ok contacted WW Rewards and managed to get 5,080 points thanks @wookiemonster

    • +1

No worries! I've been told to wait until the end of this week (because notes were added to my purchase to say I would need to wait 14 business days), so hopefully they will be as nice to me as they have been to you.
