To wait for black Friday or not to wait….

    • Asking myself the same question

      • same.. wife needs some anc headphones..

        • +1

Yup, this is potential Christmas gift for the missus she wants some headphones for music - from what I've seen these score highly. To pull the trigger or not hmm.

    • Got them last year from Costco for $240 during Black Friday sale… I’d wait

    • +13

According to my sources - wait.

  • Any thoughts on whether the XM4s are worth the extra expense over these?

    • +5

Not worth it, I've got both, the difference is quite minimum and XM3 battery actual lasts longer.

      • How about comfort wise?

  • I have sony xm4 and my ears got heat up after an hour use. Any recommendations, what can be done ?

    • Not really. They rank poorly for breathability. You'd just have to take them off every so often and give your ears a break (which isn't a bad idea anyway).

  • Am I right in thinking these can't be plugged in? I want to replace my half-dead Audio Technica ATH-AD700. Wireless (with wired option) and good noise cancelling is what I hope for. Wired connection would be for watching video without audio sync issues, if that is still a problem these days.

Well these look good to me, Amazon sent me a Black Friday email a few minutes ago and I found these. Time to trawl through reviews!

Yep they have the 3.5mm connection too

  • Good audio but the mic on these are shitty, in case you wanted to utilise it.

    • I hear this all the time in complaints on mine, but I have had mine for nearly 3 years now, use them on phone calls multiple times a week, have used them for many zoom chats, and have had zero issues with mic quality or complaints. I have even tested with someone calling me with them to see if they sound shitty, and they sound nice and clear.

      • I know someone who bought these for their whole (small) office for a voip rollout because "USB headsets aren't cool enough" the mic quality was so poor they ended up getting those dedicated headsets after all.

My brother has these also, they sound bad compared to other headphones with mics.

You can still be happy with them, but I've seen plenty of examples where the mic on these don't measure up to other options.

    • The mic quality isn't shitty, it's completely reasonable. The issue is that it the mic has no noise isolation, so if you have any background noise it will pick it up. My friend and I both used the XM3s for calls during lock down and they would consistently pick up noise in other rooms, like partners talking in the kitchen or watching TV in the lounge room. If you have no background noise, then it's not an issue.

Disagree, but so long as you're happy, great.

        • For me, the background noise that the XM3 mic picked up was a big issue. So whilst I use the XM3s for music/podcasts, I bought a Jabra Evolve 65 headset for calls.

I was just saying that if you can attenuate the noise in another way, or if you are in a quiet controlled space to begin with, that like witheredcouch has experienced, the XM3s can be used for calls.

  • What's better sounding XM 2's, 3's or 4's?

  • Would these be the kind of headphones able to process the low base sound at the beginning of Evanescence - Bring me to life?
I would love to buy a new set of headphones but the range is so huge so I just keep using my Aldi wired noise cancelling jobbies.

  • I need to buy a replacement pair after my XM2's broke (they served me well for ~5 years though!). Unfortunately I've tried XM3's in the past (ordered twice from Amazon) and they had a weird audio / hiss issue so I had to return them. I'm not sure if the XM4's have the same problem or not but I am not sure if I want to pull the trigger on XM3's again.

    • When did you experience the hiss ? I got XM3 from Sony Seconds and it is working fine.

    Now $199 - lightning deal!

    • Thank you for posting this! I got the deal kust now. I had to use desktop mode, click wait list (or something, text was hard to see) then the option to add to cart appeared. This may be normal but I haven't seen it before.

  • No doubt through some witch magic my M3s arrived today, super early. I'm listening to ACDC with some Jamerson and everything is just fine. Best $199 I've spent.

    • @loopholio when did you order them? Amazon deal says dispatch of 1 - 2 months..

    • I ordered mine….

      Um… email..

Let me put my love into..

      Wait..

      Ordered on 26 November 2021

      Witch craft I tells ya!

  • Hmm I might take the gamble then and see how it pans out.

  • So very worth it. I rarely listen to music. This may now become something I do. Or at least drink more and listen to music. :p

    • Haha sounds good.

  • Back at this price again

    • @brandogs don't bother buying them. I bought them on the last sale on the 29/11. Still hadn't arrived by Christmas. Expected ETA went from 23/12 to 12th Jan. No idea why they are selling stock when they don't even have any.
