bought this ($359), sold it. Not convinced it's that great - found it to be slow and relatively laggy - just using it for teams. For this price (sub $300) though it's probably the best thing going

    • +3

Tempted but would imagine its sluggish and would drive me mad

    • +1

Yeah it's tempting because of the great value for money but it's still a $300 tablet.

    • +2

I used to think that, but I used it the other day and it's pretty snappy. Maybe updates improved performance

    • same here - was disappointed with the performance - laggy, updates required restarts every a few days, half apps don't want to work

    • Same, bought it a few months back. It is very sluggish. I returned it.

  • Is you'd the one that was $279 a little while back?

Thinking I might wait/go one of the newer models

    • Yes, it was $267.75 on 1/8/21
It's been fine, I mostly use for web browsing and zoom

  • +4

$299 Save 40%, then says Regular price $327 below… Mmmmmm

    • $499 is RRP and actually common. $327 is a bargain already.

Yeah, my phone is faster, but sometimes I want a proper desktop version of chrome, and a proper keyboard. Will also run Linux apps, though 4GB will limit that.

      • -2

Not much of a deal if even Hardly Normal have them cheaper.

        • I see Amazon responded and lowered their prices and seem to of removed the "Regular price $327" from the page too.

  • +1

Huge fan, bought during lockdown for the kids - maybe it’s time for another?

  • +3

Are these okay for reading? Was going to buy the new Kindle Paperwhite that's on sale but might buy this instead?

    • +2

yeh i use this as a makeshift kindle when on the train. just remove the keyboard.

use it as a 'laptop' for every other time

      its a great versatile device!

  • +2

These are great… I love mine. For the money the won't be beat

The Mediatek Helio P60T is an upper mainstream ARM SoC for smartphones (mainly Android based) that was introduced in early 2018.

    Nearly 4yr old chip?

  • +2

Thanks, was waiting for it for sometime, bought it

  • +2

I got one of these in a previous sale and am impressed for the price. Its not high end but good for most things

  • +1

Been looking at this for a while for primary school kids. But of reading eggs, educational games and some videos. But maybe just better to buy the cheapest iPad?

    • I have a 9 year old son who uses this. Mainly youtube, roblox and as you've said education stuff for homework. I've honestly never had any issues with it and for the price it's golden

      • My son needs one for school to be used daily. Is it robust enough for that, or a bit fragile due to the removable keyboard? I'm thinking a bigger screen would be better anyway.

  • What is the advantage of this over a tablet?

    • +4

      chrome os

      • I believe its a disadvantage

  • +3

case and keyboard i guess, plus price. Few of my friends have it and they love it.

  • +3

I have one of these - best battery life, worst performance. 3/10 would not recommend.

  • +4

i feel mine is slow but so many raving on this so i keep it… maybe dont install too many android app, and dont have many tabs open on chrome?

    • +1

Basically. It is good value but had obvious limitations.

I love by Duet as my main usage is that.

    • I have only experienced lag at times where I've had a whole bunch of tabs open. Some people seem to get great performance while people like you don't. I wonder if there are faulty units out there.

      • Yeah it only has 4GB of RAM, so don't expect to have 50 tabs open in Chrome plus a bunch of Android apps at the same time

    • It's not great for Android apps, although I haven't had too many issues.

Where it excels is in Chrome, it's basically a full desktop version of Chrome that supports plugins, etc

I create shortcuts for all of the websites I use and they act just like apps and are pretty snappy.

      Great device for the price.

      • whats wrong with the android apps?

        • Nothing really. I had some issues with Kodi freezing the whole thing, but I tried recently and it was fine.

It only runs Android 9. Android 11 is supposed to be coming at some point.

I much prefer to use the web versions over Android apps anyway

Any good USI Stylus pen that doesn't break the bank? The Lenovo USI pen seem to have mixed reviews, apparently it activates when the pen it's close enough to the screen but not touching it?

  • +1

Anyone familiar with the Syncler app and knows if it runs smoothly?

I had originally placed an order at $299, but managed to cancel and reorder at $277.

        • And… cancelled and reordered again, this time at $275. (This is getting ridiculous).

          • @chromotype: lucky,
but not for me I bought it during the lighting sale, and it was out for delivery already so couldnt cancel :(
but i called up and they credit the difference. now to buy a firetv stick :S
