Since I was one second too slow (lol), I’ll paste in part of the description I wrote for this deal…

A note for people looking to purchase Google Play gift cards

If you are looking for Google Play gift cards, you are probably better off going to Officeworks and asking staff to apply their price beat guarantee (PBG), as it would mean you can purchase Google Play gift cards at a 14.5% discount!

You can ask Officeworks staff in-store or over-the-phone to beat Woolworths' price.

    • For in-store, you'll need to show the staff member a physical or digital copy of the weekly catalogue.

    • For over-the-phone, please tell the staff member to refer to the specific page of the current catalogue (unless they're already aware of this deal); you will be given the option to collect the gift cards from an Officeworks store, or have them mailed to you (and you may be charged postage fees, depending on your location).

Some staff may tell you that the PBG cannot be applied to purchases of gift cards. This is false, as the PBG page does not list gift cards as an excluded item.

Please note you can only ask Officeworks to price beat Woolworths if Officeworks does not drop their prices for Google Play gift cards to match (or even beat) Woolworths' price.

My dude has a great attitude.

    • Just tried to call OfficeWorks and the lady on the other side insist to see the actual product online, she refuse to give me price beat because I can't find the actual product on Woolworths website :( Showing her on the catalogue is not good enough for her…

      • That is a completely ridiculous excuse and it sounds like they were trying to worm their way out of honouring the PBG.

I would call back (later) and hope you get a different operator. Maybe also explain to the different operator that it is an in-store only special, but it is advertised on digital catalogues on Woolworths’ website.

There’s nothing on the PBG to say you can only price beat items that are sold online…

        • +1

Thank you for the tips. I'll just that later

    • +2

Worked for me. Queried the $50 cards, as $30 ones are in the ad, but I mentioned it was for all and they processed it. Had to applied the discount manually to each card and there was a limit of 5 cards per txn.

      • That's promising, thanks for sharing! Did you do this over the phone or in store?

  • PlayStation Plus 12 Month Membership are currently 33% off ($53.30)

I called a couple of Woolies yesterday and they said their systems are showing the PS Plus at $79.95 and not the discounted price.

    • +6

      Deal doesn't start until Wednesday?

    • would it be buying PS store credit/voucher and then you apply it to the current PS+ price ($53.3) on PSN?

      • +1

No. It’s a voucher for a 12 month PS+ sub. There’s PS Wallet GC which are different.

  • -2

For those who still doesn't know, you can get 36 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $30-40.

    • You mean $30-40 per year right? Or did I grossly overpay?

It would have been better if you had said nothing

    • ????

      • -3

True. Not sure why people downvote you. The method has been there for over a year. The total cost for achieving 36 months has been dropping though. It’s actually cheaper to do 1 year for around $7 dollars. But it is safer to just have 36 months as this is what Microsoft allows as maximum. Who knows will we still be able to get those after 12 months.

        • Can you please point to any specific step by step instruction? My kid has active game pass ultimate atm for monthly 15AUD.

          • @gandalf4you: I'm 90% sure they're bullsh*tting, but here's a post for getting it for around $45 per year (requires a VPN to turkey, can use the free windscribe add-on for chrome) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/664221

It's marked as out of stock but it seems to be in stock, though not sure if that code still works. Without the code it's about $53ish.

            • @mangobango: Honestly, I can't speak for any methods but there is a website you can buy xbox game pass + EA play for $34.17 for 36 months, I only know about it since it's where I used to buy my steam games.

          • @gandalf4you: I just chanced it. So it was straightforward enough and following the instructions on that thread posted by Mango.

Bought 3 cards on gamivo although tbf prices are similar by a few bucks so just buy wherever.

Once I had the 3 codes turned ON the VPN (I use NORD) and put myself in Turkey, then just went to redeem.microsoft and entered the code, confirmed then it sort of dumps you in the subscription page so I literally just repeated and went to redeem again 2 more times and my account was now xbox live gold until….. 2024.

Turned off VPN, logged into https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/p/xbox-game-pass-ultimate/CF… and this bit was momentarily concerning as it looked like it was giving me ultimate for 1 month and then charging but once you go through it it shows it's converting the xbox live gold and you'll be charged the $15 at the end of your sub so in 3 years time.

Confirm etc etc and everything seems to be working. Happy days. I don't know how to say that in Turkish.

NOTE: You apparently can't have an active subscription so you'll need to let your current one expire before chancing this. Also this VPN malarky works for youtube premium and Netflix as well. I really should have gotten involved sooner…..

            • +1

@Willywolfy: Xbox Game Pass 3 Months for PC works too…. just buy 12 of them. Argentina is running a promo at the moment.

    • I did that 2 years ago, leaving me with about 1 year left. Can I extend it using the same trick?

      • -1

I don’t think it’s the best idea to use this method on your main account.
I don’t think you will get banned or anything. Just the game pass thing might not go well with other subscriptions like office 365.
Just create a new account and have it signed in on your Xbox. Then It’s ‘shared’ to your main account if it’s also signed in on that Xbox. Your main account still enjoys all the benefits. So you still play games with your main account and all the saves stays with that main account.

      • I am not sure whether the XBOX subscriptions can be stack up or not, just curious for that.

  • +13

Great timing! I got a call earlier today and I've got to pay the ATO $2,000 or face imprisonment. Upside: they're now accepting Google Play and iTunes cards. Such an innovative government agency.

Good stuff mate! Pay them fast they'll lock you up quick-smart!

I'm having a bad run of luck. Only yesterday, I had some bastard order $840 worth of Amazon stuff and bill it to my account. Only found out because Amazon phoned me with an alert. I had to let someone from Amazon's security department remote into my computer to remove the virus and process the refund. Phew!

Are Steam cards included in this deal as well?

    • +1

better off getting 15% off cards from coles, and going to jb hifi to buy steam cards :)

      • +1

Are you able to use gift cards to purchase them?

        • Yes, it can, I've used the Ultimate Gift Cards to buy those from JB Hi-Fi before.

So for the coming week promo, buy a TCN gift card from Coles first, then use the TCN gift card to buy Steam cards from JB Hi-Fi so you will get the Steam card on a discounted price.

      • How do you get that at Coles?

    • Unlikely, considering it is not pictured in the catalogue.

You could always go to Woolworths from Wednesday onwards and scan a Steam gift card at a self-service checkout to see whether it will be discounted at the checkout by 10%. If not, just ask the staff to remove the gift card from the transaction and put it back on the shelf!

      • +1

Popped into two nearby woolies, not a single Steam gift card to be found :'(

  • +2

Shame there's no deals on PS credit instead

  • Does Officeworks usually spontaneously drop prices to match other sales, so they don't need price beat?

    • +3

They used to drop their prices to match retailers selling gift cards at a discount, but they stopped during that roughly two or three years ago.

They probably realised they'd lose more money selling gift cards to everyone at a discount, rather than honouring their PBG for a few customers.

      • Probably realised they can deny PBG most of the time due to excuses anyway. I've never had luck with pbg at most stores.

        • +1

Damn, that's unlucky. To be honest, it hasn't always been smooth sailing for me either…:

          • One staff member kept on denying me trying to price beat Coles' 15% discount on App Store & iTunes gift cards, as they insisted they had to see a physical Coles catalogue, not the digital catalogue on the Coles website. I spoke to their manager, and they were like "yeah, the digital catalogue is fine, as long as it is the one on the Coles website."

          • At another store, I asked staff to price beat Coles' 20% discount on App Store & iTunes gift cards. The staff were happy to do that, but they stuffed up the calculations and entered into the checkout that Coles' discount was 15%, not 20%. Once the PBG was applied, the gift cards were still more expensive than Coles, and I became rather unhappy when the staff insisted multiple times they calculated the discount correctly. They eventually fixed it, but I haven't been back to that Officeworks since!

          • At another store, I asked staff to price beat Bunnings' price on a button battery, as it was 40% cheaper on Bunnings' website. The staff tried to deny it, as they said Bunnings' price was so low that it surely had to be on clearance. I pointed out to them at there was no indication on the web page that it was on clearance, and showed them some examples of products on the Bunnings website that were on clearance, and the manager eventually (begrudgingly) backed down.

I haven't reached the point of calling Officeworks' head office to complain about a store's refusal to apply the PBG…. not yet, anyway.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: I guess is how much grit you show. I'm too tired to argue with them. Or they say just get it from Coles, etc.

  • -1

Do Woolworths sell Steam giftcards? I couldn't find them on the online site

    • +1

They're generally available in-store only, but I've found that my local Woolworths seems to have removed them? Perhaps for the duration of this sale they didn't want to be badgered with questions about why those weren't on sale.

  • Careful with the xbox live gold, last time i bought thinking it was a deal, it just converted to game pass and added a couple of months to my exisiting membership is all.

  • -2

Does anyone here know if Apple Gift Card will also get 10% off tomorrow?

    • -2

So you guys neg me when I ask a simple question.

      What wrong with you guys?

When one of you comment, maybe I should neg you back too huh?

    • +1

      Unlikely, considering:

      • It is not pictured in the catalogue,
      • The sale is only for assorted (i.e. some) gaming gift cards,
      • It is not mentioned in the terms and conditions.

I would be thoroughly surprised if it was discounted by 10%, considering that Apple has only run bonus Everyday Rewards or Flybuys points deals at Coles, Woolworths and BIG W since introducing it to Australia in July.

You could always go to Woolworths and scan an Apple gift card at a self-service checkout to see whether it will be discounted at the checkout by 10%. If not, just ask the staff to remove the gift card from the transaction and put it back on the shelf!

      • -1

Yeah I mean not all gift cards is not gonna show in the catalogue but once in store it could. In the past, when coles did something similar like this, without showing the Apple Gift Card in the catalogue but it was also 10% off when going in the store. That is why I'm asking if anyone knows, but instead they just neg me without saying yes or no.

Simple answer is yes or no, but I got neg instead. Some people in this society is just sad these days

  • Does anyone know if you can pay for the gift cards using Woolworths gift cards?

    • +1

      You cannot do that.

Woolworths updated their checkouts in late 2018 to stop people from using Woolworths Group gift cards to pay for gift cards at Woolworths.

You can always try (especially since Woolworths may one day push out an update for their checkout system and accidentally allow you to do this), but don’t expect it to work!

      • Those were the days…

        • -1

I see it was particularly good for one OzBargainer lol

I only started using WISH gift cards in 2019, so I completely missed that boat.

      • So just tried to buy 4*$50 google play cards with a woolies egift card, not an essential or simply groceries and got blocked at a self serve. These ones are listed as allowing gift cards in the fine print, just not discounted ones it seems….

        • +1

          Are you sure?

Clause 6.5 of the WISH Gift Card terms and conditions states:

In addition, you cannot use your WISH Gift Card to purchase :
          a) Gift Cards and Vouchers;
          b) Lotto / Lottery products; or
          c) Donations or charity products (such as merchandise)

The reason I have linked the WISH Gift Card terms and conditions (even though you say you have a Woolworths Supermarket eGift Card) is that WISH Gift Card has been defined to mean any gift card issued by Woolworths Group, not just the WISH gift card (which isn’t intuitive, but I guess that is how they roll):

“WISH Gift Card” means one of the following Gift Cards issued by us to you either as a Physical Gift Card or an eGift Card:
          a) WISH Gift Card;
          b) Woolworths Supermarkets Gift Card;

Anyway, Gift Cards is not a term specifically defined in the terms and conditions, so (to me, anyway) the term used in the context of clause 6.5(a) is actually referencing all gift cards sold at Woolworths Group stores (e.g. TCN gift cards, Ultimate gift cards, Google Play gift cards), not just gift cards issued by Woolworths Group.

If you believe that my interpretation of the gift card terms and conditions is nonsensical, feel free to call Woolworths Group gift card team (1300 10 1234) and see whether they can be of any assistance, but I have a feeling they will refuse to help you.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Looks like you're right, full terms for the store specific egift cards like mine - https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au/medias/Store-eGift-Card-…

Definitely not allowed in there. A bit misleading that there are cards like essentials and simply groceries that mention the blocking in bold wording on the purchase page itself and others like egift and wish where you have to dig deeper to see the same info.

  • -4

Does not include Xbox Live 12 months Gold

Mods please remove the misleading picture asap

    Thank you

    • +2

Images was taken straight from the catalogue.

    • +2

Do you realise there are different Xbox gift cards, and only one of them is part of this deal?

I spotted the following Xbox gift cards at a Woolworths:

      • Xbox Gift Card

      • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Gift Card (3 months)

      • Xbox Live Gold (12 months)

The only Xbox gift card pictured in the catalogue (and the OP's post) for this deal is the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Gift Card. I'm not quite sure why you're asking the mods to remove the picture when the gift card you quoted (Xbox Live Gold) is a different gift card and was never listed as part of this deal?

  • Will Jbhifi price match the Nintendo eshop cards?

    • Last time I tried, no.

JB Hi-Fi has a price match policy, and gift cards are not excluded from that policy. However, I tried to get JB Hi-Fi to price match another gift card sale a few months ago, and the staff told me they have no way of changing the price of fixed denomination gift cards, even if it is due to a price match.

I sent an email to JB Hi-Fi's head office asking for clarification, and they never got back to me…

You could ask your local store if they can price match, but don't get your hopes up. Who knows, maybe they've updated their POS system since my last price match attempt?

  • well, an update: tried to buy 5x $50 google play, didn't realise the only ones on sale at woolies were the exact ones pictured, the $30s. Or at least, OW were only able to price beat what was pictured (we couldn't find anything on the website showing which were on sale, heck google play didn't exist in their gift card page at all!).

They did the price beat, but limit 5 cards. Got 5x$30 for 128.25. Had to walk down the road to the other OW to get another 5. On second thought, should have tried to buy the $50s cos the 2nd store barely checked the catalogue details.

    • +1

It says in the fine print at the bottom of the catalogue:

Offer available … on all denominations of gift cards pictured

The first Officeworks was being unreasonable by only beating the price for the $30 denomination when the catalogue is clear that the deal is for any denomination.

heck google play didn't exist in their gift card page at all!

The Woolworths Group gift card page is operated by a section of Woolworths Group that is separate from the supermarkets, so they never have anything to do with the gift card deals you see in Woolworths stores.

  • +1

    Thanks OP & Wookiemonster!

  • Can anyone advise if you can use the shop vouchers to sign up to Nintendo Online via their store? Or are they only used for purchasing games?

    • You can use the Nintendo eShop Gift Card to sign up/pay for Nintendo Switch Online.

      • Sweet. Thanks for that.

  • OW refused the price beat, the first person stated that they only do the price beat if it's standard pricing, not sales. The supervisor/manager said that they can only price match $ values not percentages. Even showed them the website. She said that there are lots of reasons why they can't do the PBG.

    Off to woolies I go…
