    980s please

    • +9

970 Evo Plus outperforms the 980 in almost every way. Why would you still go for the 980?

      • +3

        Most likely means 980 pro.

      • +1

Might mean the pro gen4 version.. Can then be used in ps5

  • Please be aware that Samsung may have changed the NAND to an inferior one:

    https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08/samsung-seemingly-ca…

    • +2

It has nothing to do with the NAND and it talks about the controller. Plus the change is good for most people who don’t write massive files, it’s not like it’s bad for everyone.

It’s the controller on the 980 i believe. So somewhat of an upgrade actually depending on what you are doing with the drive.

Feel free to correct me though, i am obviously not an expert. Just recently looked into this from the other deals.

      • +2

yep from my understanding, older drive is faster only when transferring a file bigger than about 160GB. Anything smaller than that and the newer drive wins

        • Beware the new controller runs much hotter.

      • Thanks for the clarification

  • thanks, used it for price protection

  • $7 cheaper?? Asking for a friend.

  • +1

Tempted to get the 2TB for $294. Anyone thing they will be cheaper for black Friday ?

    • On eBay at least, pretty much a guarantee. Was only just over $250 recently.

    • +1

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/660565 is still active too, 2TB for $284 but not cheaper for the 1TB.

      • Damn that’s pretty good. Super tempted to just get it and be done, but i think smarter thing is to wait for Black Friday, Cyber Monday deals, right?

        • +1

If you want the Far Cry 6 code, might be better off grabbing it now as the promotion period ends tomorrow night, and the eBay codes don't start until the 26th.

BPC are a participating store https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/ssd-farcry6-2021/

          • @MiscOzB: Ah yeah what a legend, thanks mate! I actually already grabbed the 1TB and got my far cry 6, so i guess that is a wait for me for the 2TB.

  • Far Cry 6 promo still available ?

  • +3

Should have an obligatory Suitable/Unsuitable for PS5 in the title for all M2 SSDs.

    • +1

      well is it?

      • +5

If someone has to ask this question, this is exactly my point. This is not suitable due to its 3500MB/s read speed which is under the recommended requirements for PS5. I had to click around to find that out. Just to save some people a few clicks or unintended purchases.

  • This a good option to pair with the ASUS ministry of sound / gamers M.2 enclosure I FOMO bought last week?

    • You mean Arion enclosure? If so, yes. This just exceeds what usb3.2 Gen2 protocol can do in terms of speed many times over but yeah, unless you go TB3 enclosure, pretty good match.

  • Does anyone know if this is this suitable with the Acer Nitro 5?

    • +1

      Yep will work great

  • So this one isn’t PS5 compatible, are there any recommendations? I don’t need the latest and greatest, just want a little bit of extra storage

    • 980 pro SE is gen4 and is compatible.,..

  • Would you guys recommend this for a PS5?? I’ve been waiting for the SN850 to go under $200

  • The reliability for this version is 600TB not 1200TB. Please fix it. Cheers

  • +1

    I ordered Crucial P5 Plus 1TB PCIe 4.0 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 6600MB/s - CT1000P5PSSD8 Black yesterday for 186.82

Will this one fulfill the same purpose? I'm just a normal user and a casual gamer.

    • P5 is definitely better (Gen 4), this is a decent Gen 3 drive. Prior eBay deal was better, $148.57 for this drive but includes a copy of Far Cry 6 since the retailer was a participating store, don't think Amazon is.

  • 1.5GB/s seq avg once Cache runs out.

    • That's still bloody good no?

      • yes

  • Wow! Getting cheaper. I got this one for $148.57 last week from the futu_online deal (with ebay plus). The upside is, I got the FarCry 6 promotion with that, so it could be considered a better deal, if you value the game.

    • +1

      Also with local warranty.

  • How is this different to the BPCtech one? Very close in price and it's not coming all the way from the UK. Thanks

    • well it's $12ish dollars cheaper than the BPC offering.
That said it does not come with the farcry code offer that BPC have atm so if you value the game code then BPC option is better. Otherwise, you save 12 dollars assuming you are happy to wait a few extra days for the delivery.

  • A good enclosure for this that doesn’t max out at 1000 mb/sec? I have a usb 4 port on my macbook pro but just 512gb internal storage.
